April 2022 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

NOTES:

1: Thanks to the team at Auto Punditz for sharing these sales numbers with us!

2: Only cars that sell 500+ units (and thus, the relevant ones) have been included in the gainers & losers chart.

3. These manufacturer-reported sales numbers are factory dispatches to dealerships. They are NOT retail sales figures to end customers.

Re: April 2022 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

The yo-yo effect in the car sales is understood only if you keep a keen eye on many factors.

For MS, Ciaz and Swift have taken a hit.

For TATA, Nexon is going strength to strength.

For Honda, the WRV has surged.

For Skoda to record such a growth and VW not matching is surprising.

Renault and Nissan are stagnant, not a good sign in such a sellers market.

Thank you for the April sales figures!

One quick question - If Ertiga, XL6, Marazzo etc. feature in the Utility graph, shouldn't Carens also be a part of it, instead of C2 segment?

Re: April 2022 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Thanks for the analysis. Astor numbers are down is a worry for MG? Verna and Ciaz have both taken a hit and numbers eaten up by Slavia it looks like, which his now the King of C-segment. Skoda-VW combined effect should top the C-segment Sedan category for a while. It would be interesting to see how long this trend continues.

The price point at which Honda City hybrid is introduced, it might not bring major chunk to Honda but it will given confidence that Honda is here to stay. Overall, the City numbers might just do fine in near future too.

Compass numbers are down too is a worry.

Re: April 2022 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

What's with MG, every time their bosses keep shouting about pending orders but since launch of Hector they are unable to breach 4-5K mark. Halol factory is capable of producing 80000 units a year but MG has been operating at 50% capacity. Yes there is semiconductor shortage, but you cannot be blaming that for year or two and other manufacturers are able to scale up , why not MG?

Re: April 2022 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

This generation of i20 has taken a serious hit, previous gen used to do around 9k per month and new i20 is struglling to hit 5k monthly. And this is more worrying as the new gen has much more engine + gearbox combo than previous one.
I thought Superb supply has started again, but the numbers looks like they are still not delivering cars. Might be focus is all on getting Slavia and Kushaq out.

Re: April 2022 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Lowest selling Tata is Safari and highest selling Tata is third best selling car of the month.

Never thought I, or dare I say even Tata themselves would be dreamt of this..

Re: April 2022 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Good to see our domestic manufacturers going from strength to strength, with Tata giving sleepless nights to Hyundai bosses and Mahindra clinching the 4th position! Nexon and Punch are on a roll, both model figuring on the top-10 list. way to go, Tata

I think Hyundai might be focussing on clearing the deliveries of Creta as much as they can. The 20% jump over previous months seems to indicate that. With facelift down the corner, they might be clearing as much as pending sales as they could. Just a theory though

Re: April 2022 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Good gains posted by the Indian giants Tata and Mahindra.
OT - With so much of sales where are we heading with respect to the pricing of fuel. A food for thought but definitely not intended to entangle this one politically.
