re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

I spotted this car in Hyderabad today. I wanted to take more pictures, but people inside the car were giving scary looks. Managed to take a small video from my bike's mobile holder. There was a Carens accompanying this car. The car felt much bigger than the outgoing Verna, almost felt like a D segment car.

re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

I own Hyundai fluidic verna 2014 model and has already clocked 1 LAC kilometres. Even after running 1LAC kms the car still runs like new. 1.6Litres VGT engine is a rocket. And I still love the turbo rush it provides. The suspension in the 2014 model is sorted unlike the boat like feeling in earlier models. It is really loaded model with 6 Airbags , Projector headlights with LED DRL. When i bought it, felt way ahead of times with absolutely no competition. Thank God i didn't fall for my family pressure to buy newly launched 4th Honda City. Else would have regretted my decision.

Times have changed.
I drove one of my friends 1.5 litres diesel verna 2019 model and it's no where close to the 1.6litres in driving dynamics despite having updated features.
Sedans are now no longer favoured.
Diesel cars are punished by confused authorities in Delhi NCR. Add to that the DPF issues in BS6 cars.

Hence I feel if Hyundai is launching the same boring 1.5litre diesel engine specially in Delhi NCR , there would be few takers. It doesn't give the same kick as 1.6litre engine, adds BS6 DPF issues. And it's a sedan with a life of only 10yrs.

It's better if they launch a strong hybrid, EV or a just a petrol turbo with mild hybrid avtar.

I too is looking forward to selling of my verna after completing 9years once i get delivery of my Hyryder.

For all we know it will be just a facelift with even better FE and features.
Do you happen to have insider information?
They have 3 options :

- 1.0 Turbo with DCT
- 1.5 NA with Manual
- XX with 1XXhp with DCT

Masked the real numbers/figures so that things remain spicy till they launch it. Unfortunately it will not be a manual with 200Hp.

Meanwhile to those wondering, the size of the car is now over 4.5m and 1.7m. Also, this is not a facelift. It's an all new product.

Also, no. No insider info. But I can tell you I am good at browsing the internet website at the back end.

I got an update on this - the powertrain will be petrol only.
The current 1.5 NA will be carried forward with both Manual & CVT Transmissions.
The second engine would be new 1.5T to be offered in both Manual & DCT Transmission, the power is speculated to be higher what we see in the VW Skoda Twins ~ 160+PS & 250+ NM .

Also, confirmed it will be longest in the segment and Top Of the line variants will see ADAS just like Tucson.

Really? Hyundai developed a new 1.5 turbo when they already have a 1.4 turbo?

re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

The current 1.4 Turbo couldn't be tuned to meet the upcoming RDE Norms and Hyundai already have petrol 1.5 Turbo available in Global Markets, hence it will be replaced for both Hyundai & Kia cars on sale in India.

Likely launch will be with Verna for Hyundai , followed by Alcazar, Creta. KIA will have it early in Seltos & Carens.

I dont think Hyundai has a 1.5L turbo in any market as of now. Their 1.6T does duty on i20N in the USA and Kona in Europe and its not coming to India. Could you guide me on the market and the car which uses the new 1.5T? Apart from a few speculations online, I haven’t seen any source saying Hyundai’s 1.5T is on sale.

Edit: I found one car which uses a 1.5T, which is an i30 fastback in Germany, but is this the one coming to India ? Highly unlikely. It wouldn’t take much to upgrade the already low selling 1.4 to meet the new emission norms rather than getting a new engine here.

re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

The current 1.4 Turbo on sale in India is CKD Engine and the 1.5 Turbo will be locally manufactured in Hyundai Plant in Chennai. And though I didn't checked their websites but as per my source this engine is already available in Korea.

And, Apr'23 onwards they will be focusing more on Turbo sales for both 1.0 & 1.5, as it is a CAFE friendly technology.

Interesting info I found from Wikipedia:
  • The Smartstream G1.5 T-GDI (G4FS) is a turbocharged 1,497 cc (1.5 L) inline 4-cylinder engine with GDi that carries a bore and stroke of 75.6 mm and 83.4 mm respectively and a 10.5:1 compression ratio; it makes 170 PS (125 kW; 168 hp) at 5,500 rpm and 25.8 kg⋅m (253 N⋅m; 187 lbf⋅ft) of torque between 1,500 and 4,000 rpm. A high output version that makes 200 PS (147 kW; 197 hp) at 6,000 rpm and 25.8 kg⋅m (253 N⋅m; 187 lbf⋅ft) of torque between 2,200 and 4,000 rpm is also available for some applications.
  • The engine is based on the Smartstream G1.5 MPi (G4FL) engine from the Gamma family, and mainly used in the Chinese market.

The G1.5 MPi (G4FL) is also localized in India and does duty on the Carens, Creta, Seltos and Verna. So, essentially it will be the turbo charged version of 1.5L petrol engine sold here and not the 160PS Smartstream G1.5 T-GDI (G4LH) sold in the i30 in Germany.

170PS 1.5L T-GDI in a Verna with all the tech and localized turbo engine would be disastrous for the competitors especially if they can price well with respect to the imported 1.5L TSI engines in the VW/Skoda twins. I feel Hyundai had enough time to learn from the mistakes of having low safety ratings on 15+ lakhs product and would develop the new Verna accordingly.

Really interesting times for buyers in the mid-size sedan market. Also, the Tucson really needs this engine than other car in the Hyundai line up.

re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

As it appears in the spyshots, the rear quarter-glass area continues to be plastic only :(
That is unlike what Virtus and Slavia have.

Hyundai should continue with the diesel option too. Verna is the only sedan with a diesel power train today in India (with Honda City stopping diesel option).

Bang On !! Kudos to the research you have done !
Yes it will be launched in Alcazar ,Creta , Carens & Seltos next year but not Tucson.

For verna, yes the specs on paper look very promising with all the Tech ADAS, Dual Screen Setup etc. I hope they can compete the rear seat comfort with Legendary City.

For any one who is in the market for a mid size sedan [Like Me ] ,It would be really exciting to see the Segment heating up in Q1 with New Verna Launch, City Face-lift , Slavia Monte Carlo .

Best if the new Verna comes with 5 star safety rating

The rear seat legroom is better than VAG twins. The city feels like a small car in comparison. The rear seats are really wide too. There's a lot of glass area which makes it feel airy. Also, you do not see knees up now. Almost flat rear central tunnel helps a lot too.

Even I am in the market for a sedan in the range of ₹15-18 lakh. Today me and wife decided to go to the showrooms of Honda, Hyundai, Skoda and VW. We went to the VAG last and before we checked the vehicles of the Japs and Koreans. While returning home wife told, build quality and premium feeling is in VAG only and not in the Honda or Hyundai.

After seeing the Verna in person, we feel that the facelift’s of Verna or City will not have that premium build quality feeling. In fact Verna’s interior felt jaded and tired and old.
