Now looking at these two pictures, most of my 'anxiety' is gone, though I am still a little sceptical about the centre of the front grille.

Back seat space, and ground clearance are what will be important. Hyundai cars are generally feature rich, so I don't foresee a worry there.

Wow, one of the rare very easy to meet wishlist on TeamBhp

1. I am sure there would be auto-folding ORVMs as the rest of Hyundai / Kia line up has the same.

2. It has already been fixed in their premium products where the sound is of the premium sounding car horn and not that beep. However you also have the option to completely remove the sound by toggling the settings on the console.

Exactly! Nothing ambitious here. Just keeping it simple for Hyundai.
I hope they don't overlook these simple (but very useful) features while offering a lot others.

re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

The front of the car is very electric-car like, trying very hard to look futuristic but this could turn out to be a bummer if the quality of the bumper elements are not up to the mark. I am imagining how someone would keep that front grill clean in our conditions.

The side seems to be very similar to the last generation of Honda Accord with the curved surface and a sharp line running along both doors, but the bulge makes me think the rear door will look really funny when opened in real life. Someone pointed out yesterday that the wheel size looks exaggerated and may not be how this will look in real life with low profile tyres.

We have to wait and see what the actual car looks like on road. I personally feel Hyundai designs date very quickly, for example the fluidic Verna or the last generation i20.

re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

Out of curiosity, I checked if there was a Kia equivalent in global markets. The Kia Forte seems like the closest to this new-gen Verna and looking at the size of the Kia, it would appear that the new Verna will be longer than the previous gen. The Forte comes in at 4.6 m in length and if Hyundai uses the same chassis, we can expect the Verna to be 4.5-4.6 m in length.

This is definitely required since the VAG twins are at 4.5 m and anything less will make it tough for the new Verna. Interestingly, the last gen Elantra sold here measured ~4.6 m, which means the Verna will be doing double duty as Hyundai's premium and mass market sedan.

On a related note, could Hyundai be reusing the previous gen Elantra chassis for the new Verna?

In Chennai last December, I spotted the new Verna conducting trials and was able to take a few pictures:

Nothing to say about the design, it is following what Hyundai have been lately-looks like a toy car to me.

Coming to 1.5 Turbo-that is a good addition and hope those extra BHPs and Torque figures actually turn out to be fast as we have seen how the 120BHP i20 performed against the 108BHP Polo 1L TSI TC. Hope the reverse engineered DCTs are good from Hyundai.

Tucson is better than Verna in every aspect including safety. If Tucson is tested in GNCAP, i'm confident that it will score a 5 star rating whereas verna might score just 3 or less. Tucson is just miles ahead when compared to Verna in every aspect.

re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

Front looks good, but I am not sure of the side profile, after the B Pillar.

The 2017 Elantra had one of the best side profiles, unfortunately Hyundai has gone completely southwards for each of it's sedans post that Elantra:

Oh look at that! What happened suddenly after the B Pillar. Increase in length is showing up so badly. Similar to decrease in length showing up badly in compact sedans. I thought it is a fresh design!!

re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

Hello, In my view past few launches are dimension wise similar to D segment of sedans some 5-7 years ago, Virtus-Jetta, Slavia-Octavia, City-Civic and now Verna likely to be of old Elantra dimension wise. Only problem with current sedan is interior quality. Pick any of the last few sedan launched they are, if not poor, just about ordinary / acceptable interior quality. I may be wrong, but sedans available in India are having Maruti quality interior.

I always prefer to drive a sedan and currently own 2018 City. I find sedan much better to drive and these days with 165 mm or above ground clearance, we can go anywhere in India (except offroading).

Verna always has had two major problems, 1st is rear seat legroom and 2nd is the rear seat is too low. Probably it is lower than old Civic. I don't have much hope from new Verna, but I seriously wish a grand revival of sedan in India.

Behold, the age of sedans is once again upon us. I have nothing but respect for Hyundai. Making this dying segment of C segment sedans go out with a bang! Utter shame for Maruti and Toyota.

re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

I am not able to make out if it's only a Chrome patti or a DRL that's running across the bonnet.

If it's a DRL, then a quick dash to Karolbagh would turn it into Knightrider style lights.

Vrooh vrooh
