While the overall silhouette hasn't changed much, the bumpers (esp. the rear one) seem further inside the bodyline.

Combine that with lower mounted lights, even minor bumps in traffic could cost a pretty penny in repairs.

My two major concerns are,

1. Rear seat comfort, last gen wasn't spacious, hope they improved the space.

2. DCT Tuning, the one in creta is conservatively tuned, initial gears are a bit mellowed down, hope that's not the case here.

I like this verna in dark colors, in white it looks boring though.
Went to the showroom to check the car out. The rear seat space just blew my mind. While I do agree my expectation was low to begin with (I currently own the Nex Gen Verna), I must say that the space in the rear, including leg room, under thigh support as well as width, has seen a major and well-needed jump. They have even removed the hard back of the front seats that was there in the previous gen, and honestly was quite an inconvenience as well owing to the small leg room with your knees constantly touching the hard back.

As far as looks are concerned, I just want to tell people that the online pictures and the lighter shades do not do justice, as even I wasn't thrilled with the looks initially. The car looks WAY better in person.

Strange thing is Hyundai showrooms in Delhi do not seem to have the turbo variant on display (tried 5-6 showrooms). I was told at the showroom I was visiting that a customer liked the turbo variant on display so much that he/she ended up buying the car on the spot and hence, they did not have any variant available on display.

If they are able to replicate the driving dynamics of Slavia/Virtus GT even to the tune of 80%, this already no-brainer of a car is going to murder the rest of the segment.

I think each car that's offered ADAS in India has the option to turn off ADAS, even selectively. So there goes your worry.

That said, my experience driving the XUV in chaotic conditions was a beautiful. 99% of times it did what it was supposed to. Just once I needed to intervene, when a rickshaw left the lane and dont know why swerved right back into it. Even then the emergency braking module sounded off the alarm, and the car might have braked automatically, but I applied the brakes nevertheless and there was no mishap.

To me atleast, the new car appears to be a bit more substantial from the exterior perspective, just generally a larger, chunkier model. Even the aesthetics look more modern. The fastback styling doesnt appear oddball in the darker trims as one would have earlier thought.

Got it. I would have been surprised if you felt the reliability or after sales were the safety net .

Btw did any official crash worthiness get published for virtus or slavia? We can surely assume its good but proof's in the pudding.

The looks of the new Verna are subjective but safety is not... I am all for Hyundai's feature extravaganza but without basic structural safety, everything else is a non starter.

I have owned an i10 for 8 years and the ownership was hassle free but the car's frame literally got bent in a rear fender bender by another car. I sold it as soon as I got it repaired and I am not going Hyundai's way until they make safety a priority over electric front seats without memory settings.

Re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

First impressions from a Slavia DSG, Gen 5 City ZX and former Verna 1.6 CRDi AT owner:

I visited Lakshmi Hyundai in Whitefield, Bangalore on an impulse while driving by. They have a grey SX(O) ivt example on display.

Test drives to begin 10 days from now, according to the SA.

I could only spend 15 mins with the car. Here are a few quick observations:

Exterior and Build

+ Styling is quite funky and the car looks good from some angles(more on this later..)
+ Detailing is interesting
+ Full cladding in the front arch + Steel front arch (city gets only a partial metal arch)
+ Hood felt very heavy ( possibly due to the sheer acreage of the hood?)
+ Decent paint quality
+ Decent GC of 170 mm (According to the SA. He was quite confident and did not have to think twice before his answer.)

- Car looks ugly from some angles (you only need to shift a few feet to the left or right for the car to alternate between ugly and good looking)
- Build quality is still decidedly Asian
- Doors and trunk lid do not have the heft of European cars' (my old verna was closer..)
- Rear wheel well does not have full cladding
- Come on Hyundai, why cant you paint the areas which people do see often? (inner surface of the tailgate gets only the base coat)
- Paint quality still a bit away from VAG standards, but better than the city
- 4 lug nuts on wheels!!?
- Brake discs up front appeared to be small for a car this size (My prediction? this will pop up during the road test.. brakes lacking bite. Rear discs don't provide a huge advantage for bite or stopping power. The advantages are more evident during repeated braking)
- What's with the lame quarter plate sized logo up front?
- Finally, forget about body shops repairing dents, there are too many creases! Hang on to that zero dep insurance as long as you can!

Interiors:

+ Quite bright and airy
+ Soft touch materials applied across the dasboard (the white strip with the stich on it)
+ Decent material quality
+ Decent fit and finish (not hugely better than the Slavia, virtus or City but better nevertheless)
+ Slick infotainment (I still prefer the VAG 10+ inch unit)
+ Comfy seats
+ Low dash and good frontal visibility
+ Good legroom in the rear, Finally!

- Steering wheel looks terrible and the centre boss plastic quality feels low rent, buttons are okay though
- Window switches are not not fully illuminated (as usual..)
- Light coloured soft touch material will pick up stains. The dealership got the car 2 days ago and it was already pretty soiled
- City still feels more spacious, so does my Slavia. Especially in the rear.
- Some buttons look tacky, especially the piano black ones (personal taste..)
- The bezel around the infotainment screen looks CHEAP!

All in all, it is evident where the money has gone. The interiors + the overall "snazziness" are where it is at for this car.

Would I still have bought the Slavia now? Yes, but.. it is not as emphatic a yes as it had been until the price announcement

The Verna is is going to come across as a terrific all rounder especially due to the pricing for anyone in the market for a C2 sedan.

Re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

My thoughts on seeing various reviews about the car:
1. Everything new looks good as per human psychology. This car will generate an infatuation and not love in the long term
2. Outside design looks different but lacks character and rather looks depressing as compared to previous Verna.
3. Too many creases will lead to an increase in door replacement cases and reduction in repair as the creases once gone in a touch are hard to get back.

However price, features, power figures and Hyundai brand name will drive strong sales.

With some luck it could be out in the first half of April (among a bunch of other cars).

So true. After nearly 10 years of (mis)use, my honda city S AT is still so freaking reliable to drive and more fun than all the SUVs / Sedans I have test driven looking to replace it.

Sadly the only options left are to - either get the new Honda City which family says is so boring, or i compromise a little and get some suv and try to forget the city - like we do for any hot ex!

Last hope is the Honda SUV expected soon. Else probably Grand Vitara or Hyryder because at least there's no expectation that it'll be fund to drive. Just 20 kmpl mileage, practical & not bad looking..
Thats how people describe arranged marriages actually...

Don't hit me guy's, but this car looking really ugly. What has happened to Hyundai designers? Hyundai had some really good designs few years back but now they have totally lost it.

Re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

I went to the showroom today. Checked out the car. Test drive is still not available. There may be a few shortcomings but having owned the 2011 fluidic Verna and a slew of Hyundais and current driver being a Nios Amt, I'm confident of the way the vehicles from this stable handle.

I decided to go ahead and book the 1.5 dct sxo. Waiting period is approximately 3 4 months.

I will share the test drive experience as soon as I get it next week
