I am surprised, because, when I got a phone call inviting me to the launch today (an e-invite was also sent that I posted earlier) I specifically asked what variant will they exhibit, to which I was clearly told...Sir, you will be given all the information tomorrow, please do come...and here are the videos

re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

Saw the new Verna today being unloaded today from the container near Yelahanka. Was in a hurry so I could not click good pics. My observations

- Front Hyundai logo is too big in my opinion. Looks out of place.
- Side profile looks weird. Slavia and Virtus have better side profiles.
- Steering wheel is only 2 spoke.

re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

One thing I am glad to see is that Hyundai followed the old teasers+launch format rather than an 'unveil' event followed by a launch months later (by when the excitement has died down).

I seem to be in the minority here but I really like the design, especially the interior. The exterior is palatable but no match to the Virtus IMO. Looks too close to a Kia Pegas. But the interior is very well done, especially the dual tone scheme. Glad to see that most equipment is available on the top-end 1.5 NA CVT and not restricted to the Turbo.

The standard safety equipment is impressive. Particularly three-point belts all-round, and first-in-class rear belt reminders. Crashworthiness is a question mark but this is Hyundai's first big launch since 2020 so they should have had the time to improve, because crash ratings are all the rage today and Hyundai usually doesn't lag in the area of catching up with trends. They sponsored GNCAP testing for the Kia Carens: will they do so for the Verna? They would need to offer ESC at least as an option on the base variant for four or five stars.

But the fact that the base variant doesn't have ESC tells me they're aiming for a strong introductory starting price. Fingers crossed.

Those aircon vent levers look needlessly chunky again.

Very meh!
Adding to my previous comment, the gear lever has been borrowed from the Creta. Again, the car lacks exclusivity.
The hinges in the boot will come in the way of any luggage kept at the back while closing the boot.
The speaker in the boot has been left open along with the wiring. Poor packaging.

Looks like a car assembled using other cars parts from the Hyundai stable.

Space at the rear has increased it seems so props to Hyundai for listening to the Indian customers.

re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

It is good that Hyundai is now taking an initiative to atleast provide something more than just the government manadated safety equipments for the base variant. Six airbags for the base variant is truly a segment first feature, cause competition offers only four airbags(Honda City)or two (VW-SKODA twins), for the base variant. However omission of ESC in the base variant is not good as it will cause its score to drop in The GNCAP( if they decide to get it tested). Once a dying segment, it has now been given a fresh lease of life. Hope that Verna maintains an agressive pricing.

PS: The days of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is limited , it seems. Sorry for Maruti Suzuki as they spoiled this opportunity for this otherwise good product by not bringing in any updates or generation changes. Then Maruti Suzuki will say "customers were not interested in this product so we have decided to stop production", like they did with the S cross.

re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

The aggressive, sharp look from the previous verna was great.

The new verna looks like it has droopy eyes and may fall asleep at any moment.

I have no idea why car manufacturers think that headlamps in the middle of the bumper look better than the traditional style of headlamps near the bonnet.

They sponsored the GNCAP for the Carens? And yet it did so poorly? Astonishing!

Well, if the base variant does not have ESC, that tells a lot about where they are focusing at. That should be there as standard.

They are taking the Virtus head on even to the color scheme on the performance variants.

So here is the variant price distribution

2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!-2023-hyundai-verna-variant-price-distribution.png

Its pretty aggressively priced across variants and definitely has the potential to reignite passion in the somewhat dormant sedan segment. Folks at VW and Honda must be scratching their heads on what to do next. Even the base version is pretty well kitted with safety tech so hoping to see some good crash test scores too. Good work Hyundai!

re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

At this point of time Verna has everything going for it over the VW twins. Space, features,ADAS, better performance, reliability, better ASS and better interiors. It even has the price advantage of more than 1L (ex showroom) for the top spec turbo AT version.

VW twins for now have the better GNCAP score and possibly a better ride. If Hyundai even offers 80% of what VW twins are offering in these regards, Verna would be a great deal.

Honda City on the other hand still remains the family car, which also undercuts all it's rivals (courtesy the NA engine). IMO this is the car Maruti which Maruti should have made up of their Ciaz.

Fingers crossed for a good Ncap score and better ride experience.
I am not in the market for a car, but this car is making me consider selling the Sonet TGDI!

re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

Really good pricing for 1.5 Turbo variant undercutting the VAG twins by atleast ₹1 Lakh which will translate to more than 1 lakh on road price difference!
However, not that good pricing for the 1.5 NA as compared to the 1.0 TSI. Almost same or difference of just 20k with 1.0 TSI having substantially more torque due to turbo.
Interesting trends to be seen in the future.

re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

So it will get maximum 3 stars in GNCAP based on the new rules as they have omitted ESC as standard (adding airbags looks like a cheaper thing to do). Hope the body is rated stable unlike their other cars.

Car looks good in darker shades and they have priced it well. Lets hope the 1.5 TGDI with higher power/torque figures is actually better than the 1.5 TSI from the VAG. Similar story happened with i20 being launched as the most powerful premium hatch however the 1L TSI Polo with lesser power figures was faster.

Good that we have almost all except Ciaz now updated in the C-segment sedan space.
