re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

Polarizing designs = half of your customers love it, half of your customers hate it. But the 50% that favour it are fiercely in love with it. In a segment of sedans that is shrinking (thanks to SUVs), one needs to be bold. After all, you can't fight the Honda City by being a Honda City clone. You need to stand out. Better you are remembered by 50% of your target market than be forgotten by 100% of them .

I think Hyundai has got that covered. It will definitely get a lot of attention & eyeballs. The '23 Verna will bring some excitement to the C2 sedan segment which hasn't seen action in a long time.

Am I the only one that feels that cars are getting unnecessarily complicated in the cabin? I mean the distractions that are in front of you, with multiple screens, touch screens, voice commands which don't recognise what you're saying, does no one find them distracting and sometimes downright scary especially on our roads?

I'm 40 and a hardcore car enthusiast and drive myself. I find it increasingly difficult to focus on driving modern cars. I drove my friend's new Scorpio N on an out of town trip yesterday. Thankfully, that car does has some buttons for major functions but you still have to use the touchscreen occasionally, taking your eyes away from the road while piloting a rather large car.

I don't know but I feel engineers are complicating cars unnecessarily. It's not a video game where you can start again once the game 'ends'.

I honestly miss the Maruti 800 days when I learnt driving. All we needed were a rear view mirror and perhaps an ac.
In motion all one needs is the map (which is an indispensable aid), music and that's pretty much it. What's so complicated in this? Why would one get distracted by a digital screen as opposed to an analogue?

Your mileage may vary but I feel the this whole "let's all go back to the days of yore" is just misplaced nostalgia.

Also why is operating a touch screen (where muscle memory builds in just like in a physical button) any different from a physical button on a stereo system from the days of yore? Besides if one is uncomfortable operating a system on the move, then best is to pull in by the side, fiddle and off you go. Though if it's audio settings etc, it's better one sets it BEFORE you pull out on to the road and not when in motion.

Interiors definitely are "WoW", design looks neat and premium. Exterior however looks very overdone. According to me the large grill should have continued till the top DRLs to make it more similar to Tucson. Would have been an aggressive sedan !! Rear and side again looks too busy !!

I usually go for the white but due to this design, it is better to go for darker shades of Verna.

re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

Koreans have started liking Lizard faces nowadays. Will the front ever grow and be liked? More than polarizing looks, the cuts are increasing everyday. The lifted rear a$$ from the side looks a Malibu from GM.

From the Engine and Engineering, we have fully moved to Gizmos. Good or Bad, will always be debated.

OT,
Can the touchscreen infoscreen ever be turned off in any car which is on sale today?

Yes most cars have that option. Some also have a dim mode where just a faint light is visible on touchscreen ( like a dark screensaver on laptop), and when you touch it, it lights up.

In Nexon and Altroz, you cant turn off. It will be in blue screen with clock on Display.
So disturbing during nights

Along with the VW twins, the Verna will be the most powerful sedan in the C2 class thus far. That is something to look forward to. Too bad some folks from Japan are missing in action in this respect.

Case in point here is Creta, I still remember the feedback in this forum when 2nd gen Creta was initially revealed in China; while everyone bashed Hyundai for spoiling the 1st gen Creta looks, Hyundai rewrote history with massive success with 2nd gen aswell. So let's wait for official images, what's on offer, and the price before getting disappointed.
I told you all, it's not even a month since I made this comment and there is considerable traction in this form now. Not long ago this segment was dying, Hyundai has given life to this segment and they had to follow the unconventional design to turn eye balls. Hyundai is well aware of this age-old saying "You can like me; You can hate me; but you can't ignore me"

re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

Lot of videos have surfaced in the Youtube revealing entire interiors and even a small drive review.
The front LED strip doesn't gel well giving it not so great looks and it gets uglier in the white color. One can live with it in darker shades. Also I feel moving the headlamps further down has affected the front looks.
Pricing will be key to determine the success of Verna.
Does anyone know what is the pre-booking number so far?

All the videos at the moment seem to miss mentioning about the perceived build quality of the car in terms of how the panels, doors and the head roof feel with respect to the germans. Need to wait patiently until the GNCAP rating comes out as well. I believe it scored a 0 in the latin NCAP rating. It probably needs to be a 5 star this time to compete in its segment.

re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

A lot has been said about the looks of the Verna over the past few days. While I also had an opinion, I held back until we had clear view of the car. When it comes to the exterior, while I was initially aghast, but now, after having seen it clearly in pics, I do not mind the looks of the car. Yes, they are polarising, lack the elegance of the Virtus, but I won't mind driving around in one. I may not call it beautiful, but I don't think it is ugly as well.

As far as the interiors are concerned, 'Wow'! is what came to my mind when I saw them first. The quality(atleast visually) looks much better than the VAG twins and I really like the flatish panel design which runs at the bottom of the dashboard and houses the start stop button. I am not a fan of the 2 spoke design though but for a 2 spoke steering, the design looks quite nice. The ambient lighting setup reminds me of the S-Class. This car though, does look better in dark shades, both inside out.

Really excited to see how that 1.5 Turbo is going to perform. I do wish they had kept the diesel though. If you want to own a diesel sedan, the BMW 320 LD is the entry point now.

IMHO, the new Verna's design doesn't seem timeless. The quirky design will age pretty soon. The Slavia, and especially the Virtus, both have timeless design and will age very gracefully. The Verna's design in fact reminds me of Standard 2000 from the 80s.

Is everyone just breaking embargo or what? Haven't seen any other car leaked like this before the official launch. Looks like Hyundai dealers giving a free pass to anyone lol.
