Toyota Fortuner GR Sport launched at Rs 48.43 lakh

Update;

Toyota India is planning to launch the GR Sport Fortuner in India as well. This variant will have some cosmetic as well as performance (Minor) enhancements. Launch timeline/date is unknown but this variant should be positioned above the Legender.

Toyota Fortuner GR Sport spotted undisguised at a dealership, Launch soon?

Fortuner GR Sport spotted at a dealership undisguised, launch soon?

- Blacked out alloys
- Sportier elements both inside and outside

The below is my assumption it has not been confirmed;

- To me the Logo at the back is the TSS (Toyota Safety Sense) one which is Toyota’s term for ADAS features (TSS features available on the Fortuner in International markets are: Pre-collision System (PCS), Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) and Drive-start control.)

- New Front bumper, rear bumper and spoiler
- Sporty Brake and Accelerator pedals
- New GR embossed Front seats
- Black painted alloys

- GR badge on the grill, fenders and boot lid
- New sport suspension tune
- GR logo on the push start-stop button

re: Toyota Fortuner GR Sport launched at Rs 48.43 lakh

Looks great in black. So is it going to be Legender GR sport or just Fortuner Legender GR Sport?

A 5 lakh increase for just different coloured logos and alloy wheels is some flex by Toyota. But they will get away with it too. Such is the value of the Fortuner brand these days.

re: Toyota Fortuner GR Sport launched at Rs 48.43 lakh

Toyota India management might have a target to increase the price of Fortuner every month by atleast couple of lakhs. So now these are the innovative ways

On a serious note, this is the best interiors I have seen in a Fortuner yet.

Maruti is influencing Toyota. Change colors here and there and call it something. Put stickers here and there, call it something else. Black out everything BLACK EDITION! Seriously? For a 40+ lakhs SUV, still no sun roof and is this the only way? Toyota can do better for sure, instead of just increasing the price with few stickers and paint jobs. Disappointed to the core with this behaviour, Toyota. Milking the two cows to the max (Innova/Fortuner).

Exactly my thoughts as well, I am happy to see no racing stripes or flag decals or stickers on the roof and side fenders to make it look go fast

GR logo seems to be just like what Maruti did to the baleno RS. Limited editions are a trend these days. Wont be surprised if there is GR Innova coming soon in racing red color with black alloys and black and sporty red interiors... wait.. that was there before and it worked for Toyota in terms of sales as well

All said and done, does the Fortuner really need the GR makeover??? I thought GR was for sedans and hatchbacks on the racing circuit not sure if it fits well on SUV's.

This is a GR sport, a body kit. You seem to be talking about GR. they usually name as GR (car) such as GR Supra or GR Yaris. Nearly all of Toyota's international offerings get GR Sport versions with cosmetic differences. Think of it as M-Sport vs M or M-Performance. However, with M-sport, you do get some performance/mechanical changes (most in options) such as stiffened suspension.

Is it the effect of lighting or has the interior really gone through a substantial upgrade. The videos show a nice subtle interior with soft touch plastic and pleasing colour schemes. The legendary looks a step down compared to the regular Fortuner, thanks to the average looking maroon seats.

What you posted is absolutely true. GR stands for Gazoo Racing, it is not just limited to body kit, but is a separate branch of Toyota for motor sports, just like TRD (Toyota Racing Development)

Gazoo Racing, like Toyota Racing development offer performance mods as well (Tuned engines for quarter mile sprints, remapped ECUs, tuned suspension for the cars racing on tracks, etc).

More about Gazoo Racing on official website:
https://toyotagazooracing.com/

I'm hoping Toyota brings in some differentiation from regular Fortuner and Legender mechanically (atleast with performance mods). I'd be extremely disappointed if Toyota just slaps a GR badge on regular legender, by the looks of above pictures. Heck, even my old Qualis & Innova have TRD badges

I hope they wouldn't get under their partner Maruti Suzuki's influence like those numerous graphical decals on so called limited editions, but would really bring something unique to Indian market apart from all black interiors and black alloys, they could have named it Fortuner Dark, like Harrier and Safari dark editions, please prove me wrong Toyota India.

This new GR-S variant is getting a stiffer suspension setup than the regular Fortuner and Legender, that will be the only mechanical differentiator. Although I don’t know how this stiffer suspension setup is going to bode for an already stiff ride quality!

The regular Fortuner already has a stiffer suspension and bumpy ride compared to the Innova, wouldn't more stiffer suspension make things worse and compromise the ride quality?

They might provide updated suspension dampers with better off road capabilities for already capable upgraded vehicle (With LSD on updated / facelift Sigma 4).
