BMW is yet to reveal which M and M Sport models will get the special edition treatment.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of BMW’s M performance division, the carmaker will be launching 10 special edition M models in the Indian market.

The special edition models will feature additional design elements and new paint shades. BMW is yet to reveal exactly which of the M and M Sport models will get the special treatement for India.

An important addition to the Special Edition models would be the revival of the original M emblem that was first featured on early BMW Motorsport race cars. It features semicircles in blue, red and violet.



Globally, BMW introduced the M3 and M4 50 Jahre editions recently with bespoke design features. BMW could introduce the two models in India as a part of the 10 special edition launch.





BMW also revealed the M4 CSL overseas, and BMW might also bring it to the Indian market as a part of the special edition.



The carmaker says that both Completely Built Units (CBUs) and locally assembled models will get the special edition treatment.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the BMW M division, BMW India will launch special '50 Jahre' editions of the M340i, M4, M5, 6 Series, 5 Series and more this year.



Special edition M340i xDrive will be the first of these to launch in India.





Additionally, BMW India will also introduce M Certified dealerships in India for “everything M under one roof”

Hi Guys,
I was in the market for a new luxury car for quite sometime. After a lot of research, discussions and test drives, I booked the 50 years 630i. I wanted a car that would give me driving pleasure and also has enough boot space for those long vacation luggage. My parent don't live me yet but they will be moving base to come and live with me in a year or so, I wanted easy ingress and egress for them.

I started with:
1. X3 30i- Good car but space, not as much as I would have liked.
2. X5 40i- Prices increased and is now approx. 1.10 OTR Delhi. Brilliant car but I didn't want to breach that 1Cr mark.
3. GLA AMG 35 - Brilliant car. 302 BHP. But all black interiors were immediately reject by my wife. Space is, well that of a GLA.
4. E Class - Plush interiors, one of the best. Brilliant audio system. But that's it.
5. GLS - Very spacious, cramped 3rd row, but my 1 year old was the happiest in the car (don't know why). Too large for regular use.

Then there was more research and reviews to be watched. Looked like 630i was the best fit for us. Booked a TD. Loved how it performed , is spacious enough at the back, has a lot of luggage space and if you fold the rear seats one can literally take a nap. I hate the high gloss wood trim though. If anyone knows where can I get an aftermarket, open pore wood trim for 630i, please do let me know, I will be forever obliged.

While I was at Bird Automotive, Gurgaon, the sales rep. told me that they are taking bookings for the 50 years version as well and there are only 167 cars for India out of which 163 odd have already been booked. Was he trying to create urgency or was it a real story, guess we will never know. I also thought BMW had only started with the 340i for this limited edition version as per all the PR material.

Anyway, this is what the 50 years 630i will get:

1. Soft close doors and comfort access
2. Kidney grill in black with pearl chrome finishers
3. BMW laser lights
4. M leather steering wheel - I think this is just the standard steering wheel thats comes with the current 630i
5. M seat belts
6. M 50 year badging

These are all the features the sales guys know of, nobody has any pictures yet.

I am the most excited about the soft close doors + comfort access and laser lights which otherwise are available on the 630d only. The 630i still misses out on gesture control and smart key.

I am not sure how the new grill will look, I kind of like the current one on 6. The 50 year badge, I hope it doesn't look like a fan boy has pimped the ride with aftermarket logos

The 630i is available only in two colors, Tanzanite Blue and Carbon Black with only one interior option i.e. Cognac. I have chosen Carbon Black. It'll be hard to maintain but I think black cars look sooooo good.

Here are my questions for you folks:
1. I have been told BMW covers air suspension in warranty. Has anyone faced any trouble with BMW air suspension and does the warranty really cover it.
2. I have been told by the sales rep to take basic service package (which excludes parts like disc and brake pads) I can upgrade the moment I see an indication on the screen. Is it a good approach?
3. BMW is doing ceramic coating within their workshop these days. Has anyone got any experience with them? Is it worth it at all or should one go for the expensive PPF treatment?
4. Anything else I need to keep in mind before my ride arrive.

Congrats on the booking. Was curious to know what’s the price diff btw regular 630i and the 50 year edition.
Was the 167 number includes all the 10 models Listed in the 50 year celebration?

The difference is around 3L
167 just for the 6er, now I it confirmed twice with the rep and that's what they told me. They are not very clear on numbers to be honest.

All the time 4th-5th Year usually or at least used to happen until 2017 which was the last time I got one and changed this Year. Usually, they will do it without any questions. Just remember to get an extended warranty until 5 Years ( 6th Year is super expensive)

Yes, you can do it anytime before service or even later whenever you want. There are different packages for new and old cars. No need to do it now.

3. BMW is doing ceramic coating within their workshop these days. Has anyone got any experience with them? Is it worth it at all or should one go for the expensive PPF treatment?

With Carbon black, I will suggest going with coating if you can maintain it, PPF will be a safer bet but may kill the shine (relatively)

4. Anything else I need to keep in mind before my ride arrive.

Congrats on the booking - I have booked the same in carbon black as well. Wondering whats the delivery period that Bird has quoted you for the car?

Bird has told me 15-20 days. I don't know if they will deliver within committed time. And congrats to you as well

They have promised the same to me as well - lets see. Good info on the Service Inclusive package and the extended warranty here - will keep that in mind.

Hey, have you received the VIN by any chance? My rep told he doesn't have it yet.

Does anyone know when is the VIN generated? Post assembly or post shipment from the plant?
