Skoda is not premium, but neither is Suzuki standard: Swift is value-for-money, and you can find all small details in the car demonstrating this.

Fabia may or may not be faster than Swift: I don't think this is the main criterion at all in the minds of those who may be inclined to buy it.
buddy it is a premium brand.

Looks pricey for 7.7.
But without the detailed specs and test drive it is too early too say whether it will be a success or flop. Till then these are only your perception on the car which is talking...

Any idea when is the official launch?

No.

It is marketed in this country as one.

That is a very important distinction.

Agree with you completely on that Thad. It certainly isn't a premium brand anywhere else except here. Infact, in Europe (I know you know this Thad, but it's for the others) it's a strictly budget brand.

Fiesta is a sedan and hence its price is justified.

This is far from the truth. It is one of the least marketed brands in India. The brand image evolved purely from word-of-mouth and strengths of the product. The less compelling products of Skoda are allowed to die their own natural death.

It is as budget-ish as Honda/Toyota internationally and as premium-ish in Indian market. Honda/Toyota are more reliable no doubt, but by no means offer better 'brand image.'

Fiesta 1.4 diesel at 8 plus is overpriced, 1.6 would be more like it. Fabia at 7.7 is ridiculous, there is nothing in that car that can justify that tag. Regarding the premium image its because of the market context where few modern cars existed when Skoda launched plus the pricing of car made it accessible only to a certain segment which created the aura.

However now the market conditions are different and its not as easy to get away with just premium pricing to create a premium brand without anything to back it up. That may net some short term returns but it is a bad long term strategy.

Skoda may or may not be an premium brand but it has the perception of a premium brand. Every body has a maruti or a hyundai but few people mostly affluent have a skoda. That is what makes Skoda charge us more for their average cars.
