That means the international Vitara will stay?
Also the dimensions for new Grand Vitara is bigger than Vitara, so that might be the case?

Interesting! I was always of the opinion that they might use the GV nameplate for the upcoming 7 seater! Instead they chose it for the 5 seater??
Also, if this is the Grand Vitara, what happens to the Global Vitara?? Will they continue that 7 year old design as it is??

Well, the Hyryder, which is essentially a Grand Vitara, has already been revealed and I think a prospective customer can very well decide of he is interested in one. Also, I guess they might've opened the bookings already to create hype with higher "Pre-Launch" bookings!
P.S.- I do not think Maruti has ever showcased a car specifically before the bookings were opened! Like, don't they always just open the bookings 1-2 weeks ahead of launch and reveal everything only then?

The Global Vitara is available in UK with an AGS transmission. Since the Hyryder is a rebadged Global Vitara, will the Hyryder AT be an AGS ? Or is AGS in UK different from AMT transmissions that we get in India? I hope we get a proper automatic like the new Brezza. May be the the Grand Vitara will have an updated powertrain with a modern transmission and it will get unveiled as the Global Vitara facelift after some time in other countries.

EDIT: I found the Australian Vitara comes with a 6 speed TC and not AGS. So I guess, that is the one coming to India and not the UK one.

Oh man... why did they have to reuse the name Grand Vitara? Now I will have people in parking lots asking questions on my Grand Vitara, not realizing it is 15 years old. This happened when they released Vitara Brezza in 2016. Now they have used the exact name, for a very different car.

The same dim wit 1.5 engine powering the Brezza and Vitara! Tuned the 'Maruti' way of squeezing every ounce of mileage from every drop. May be call it Vitara 'Lullaby' edition. Priced at Rs 20L and Maruti will keep it's fingers crossed that the product hit's the bullseye. What we're are asking is not that screaming Honda like top end, but a tractable lower down the rev range and a strong mid range pull to keep up and overtake on highways.

Not joking but you were the first that came to my as soon as I saw today that they are reusing the Grand Vitara name.

None of the hit names have ben a hit so far after reusing them - Santro, Safari, Accent. And now Grand Vitara. With an expected small engine and a big price tag, It'll be interesting to see how many will put upwards of 2million rupees on a Maruti car!

Rumours has it that new Jimny will be called Gypsy!

May be the lowest end LXI with only the 1.5 in mild hybrid form would be called Grand(ma's) Vitara that would be dead through out the rev range! Maruti should come out of this rut and either revive the 1.5 turbo-diesel or get a stronger turbo petrol to keep up with the Koreans and Germans and if it wants to sell a 20 Lakh car. Wait for the TD reviews before booking, both the Hyder oops Hyryder and the Grand(ma's) Vitara.
