The Splash looks good, but how will they position it. Is the indian market ready to have two competing products from the same stable. Cos i am sure it will be placed on par with the swift.

bad guess. its maruti's contender against hyundai's santro...and if i'm not wrong, they almost sell in equal numbers. and thats a lot of cars !! so WagonR not likely to be phased out soon, especially since its got new lipstick and and bum-lift recently.

The intresting thing about Maruti is that, although Wagon R competes with Santro, they still go ahead and launch Estillo which also competes in the same market.
So, Maruti's strategy seems to be, either Estillo or Wagon R or Swift, as long as it is a Maruti, and they have >50% market share, they keep launching more and more vehicles - forget whether they already have a car in that segment!

Re: Is there a WagonR Stingray for India and when?

Maruti Suzuki to debut WagonR Stingray in India.
Quote:
It's a new upscale variant of the WagonR that would be sold along with the existing car. While the trial production is on its way, the launch should happen in the next few months. It would help the company to space out a new premium position for this car

+1 to romeomidhun's comment above.

Stingray is a WagonR that actually looks good! Perfect city car - with good enough looks, slab sided proportions, excellent visibility and all things Maruti that helps with the WagonR sell. I hope the come out with an automatic gearbox as well, atleast in the Stingray version.

WagonR Stingray was introduced as early as 2007. And the design has been more or less similar till date - except for slight modifications here and there. When it came out - people cried resemblance to the Toyota Scion, albeit in a miniature version.

Safari Storme was trying to go the landrover way with the clamshell bonnet and related design features.

So - if at all any similarities are there - should be pure co-incidence and nothing more.

I think the grill and headlights actually bear a strong resemblance to the Range Rover Evoque!

Ofcourse there is no similarity anywhere else

Copy write of the wagon r picture to its respective website.

What I mean by similarity is the front grill part. (Please refer to 3rd picture)

Re: Is there a WagonR Stingray for India and when?

I hadn't heard of WagonR Stingray and the moment I saw the Stingray moniker attached to WagonR, I was eagerly hoping it could be a station wagon based on WagonR. If only wishes were horses.

Re: Is there a WagonR Stingray for India and when?

Stingray looks good I agree. Is there any improved performance expected in the Indian Stingray? The Japanese one is powered by a Kei 600cc engine, which I believe is turbo charged, and certianly not expected here.
If Maruti can provide a 1.3liter DDIS 90 bhp engine in the Stingray, even if in a higher spec version, it can set the markets on fire.

Rather than the K10 that is planned, it would be good to have the 1.2k series in the stingray to differentiate it from the current wagon r. That would also make sense considering it would be the sportier cousin of wagon r.
