re: Toyota stops taking bookings for Innova Crysta diesel | EDIT: Back in Jan 2023

Aa told by an insider, the plan is to stop production of Innova Diesel & Fortuner Diesel Variant subsequently in a phased manner bringing in hybrid & petrol only variants.

I have heard exactly the same for Harsha Toyota, Hyderabad.

https://www.rushlane.com/toyota-inno...-12444750.html

To boost sales of petrol Innova, a dealer said that Toyota only allows booking of in-demand Fortuner diesel variant when they book a Innova petrol. In simple words, dealers only get Fortuner diesel, when they book Innova petrol.

If this does come true, I can't fathom Taxi guys buying a Petrol Innova or anyone for that matter buying a Petrol Fortuner.

When Mahindra, Tata's, Hyundai's and Kia's are belting out Diesel's after Diesel's, I would think its suicidal to become a petrol only manufacturer. Maruti could do it because it had such a huge line up of models and a huge line up of cars in each segment, but still they took a big hit.

Look at Maruti, could have competed with Kia and Hyundai with their Brezza and Vitara Brezza in the diesel segment too, heck a Diesel Ertiga would have been a Taxi car for times to come along with a lot.

re: Toyota stops taking bookings for Innova Crysta diesel | EDIT: Back in Jan 2023

If you notice, in the recent price hike, they only increased Diesel models by a big amount and did not touch Petrol at all. They were probably trying to encourage buyers Indirectly to go for Petrol. But people were still booking Diesels only and this could have prompted them to take the harsh decision of stopping Diesel models by not accepting bookings at all

re: Toyota stops taking bookings for Innova Crysta diesel | EDIT: Back in Jan 2023

Quite surprising and shocking news. Who in the world cuts off the best selling model in world except Toyota.
The diesels are not going to be stopped by other competitors in recent times and also it is not logical. The opponents must be getting it as a good opportunity to try and capture the gap if this really happens.

On the other side, people here love this car so much that even the petrol might also get overwhelming response.

Cheers

There were talks of a BS-6 2nd phase, codenamed BS-6.2 IIRC coming into effect in the start of Q2 '23, it just might be that.

Does Toyota say anything on this?

The cat is out of the bag

This is only a temporary discontinuation till Jan 2023. The Innova Crysta Diesel is going to receive an update in Jan 2023, with focus being on fleet operators, whether it will be available for private buyers is not known yet.

Alongside the Innova HyCross will be unveiled and come up for sale at exactly the same time Jan 2023.

So both will continue to remain on sale, but the Crysta line-up will see a major re-jig in terms of variants. ZX could very well be axed…

Hope this is true, but something does not smell right. Customers are already waiting anywhere from 2-8 months for some of the variants of Innova/Fortuner. So Toyota could have easily continued to take bookings and told to wait like they do now. Why did they need to pause on the bookings?

Is this (high resale returns) the case with petrol variants of Crysta too or only for diesel?

re: Toyota stops taking bookings for Innova Crysta diesel | EDIT: Back in Jan 2023

Let me be the one to break it (Already broken):

Qualis moment is happening, but not immediately.

Just had a word with someone who has a proven reputation of always being correct. He is claiming that "All the Toyota diesel offerings are going out in a phased manner and Innova is next". At the same time, the man is claiming that the hybrid petrol will offer the kind of FE that I have never seen in a big 7 seat UV.

Even petrol Crysta too enjoys a terrific resale, certainly not as strong as Crysta diesel, but stronger than what even the competing diesels also offer.

My SA here in Bangalore mentioned that Toyota may launch the Innova strong Hybrid during festival season, hence they will stop taking the Diesel bookings.

Difference is in mileage.
Generally, Diesels A segment, B-segment or even MUV, especially the ones maintained well, tend to give excellent mileage way more than their petrol counterparts.

Below link shows some difference in mileage, but in my humble experience, the quantum of difference between petrol/diesel versions is higher than shown in the below link.

I assumed they will continue the diesel and replace the current petrol models with hybrid, and hybrid will be priced 5L above similar specced petrol. But if this is true, I am afraid Toyota will price the hybrid 5L above the similar specced diesel.

Even Toyota vellfire /Camry has hybrid engine and performance is superb. There is no question of refinement, city start stop performance is miles ahead of diesel. Overall refinement is Luxury car segment. Vellfire being heavier than Innova, but there is no overall performance Lag. Also 0-100 time is 4 sec faster than diesel.
Mileage is also 11-13kmpl is not lot different than diesel counterpart.
Hybrid is going to rule future Toyota.
