re: 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee caught testing in India. Edit: Launched at 77.5 lakhs

Now we know who the new Brezza copied.

The design of the Jeep looks meek and timid.
I see a similar trend in all companies except BMW, not that I love their huge nostrils.

Same thing with the Kodiaq, smaller headlights kill that imposing front.

Also, it seems that Grand Cherokee has already had some kind of a soft-launch here. Yesterday morning in Gurgaon, I saw a black Grand Cherokee with a permanent HR license plate.

I was trailing it for quite some time and all through was trying to figure out which model is it - Looks quite simple and plain from the rear but has a massive road presence

5th-gen Jeep Grand Cherokee India launch next month

Jeep has confirmed that the fifth-generation Grand Cherokee will be launched in India in November 2022.

The latest generation Grand Cherokee will be the fourth model from the brand’s line-up to be made in India, making it the only country outside North America to produce four models. The other three being the Compass, Meridian and Wrangler.

According to the company, the new Grand Cherokee will be equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The SUV will also get a full connectivity package with 24x7 assistance.

Apart from this, Jeep hasn’t revealed the engine options that will be available in the Grand Cherokee. That being said, in the international market, the SUV comes with either a 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 petrol, a 5.7-litre V8 or a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo-petrol plug-in hybrid.

re: 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee caught testing in India. Edit: Launched at 77.5 lakhs

Quite interested on how they price it now that it's being manufactured in India. The previous gen was imported and started at around 75 lakhs for the limited diesel, The base laredo starts at 40k usd which translates to around 30 lakhs, my guess is that we will get either the altitude or limited trims with the pentastar v6 a pretty reliable engine so far, have seen cars with the engine do around 200k miles plus! Pricing wise in India i expect around 50 lakhs or above slightly as the meridian top spec is around 43 on-road. Lets see who guesses the closest!

p.s: I attached the pricing sheet below for the U.S market

I sure hope they offer the V8 here. The V8 or even the plug-in hybrid will have something unique to offer as opposed to to a fuel guzzling yet lethargic 3.5 V6 PT.

That 3.5 L NA motor will not cut it for something that will be priced to sit between the Germans in the X3/GLC and X5/GLE segments.

Jeep will announce prices for the new Grand Cherokee on November 11; will only get a single petrol engine option.

- New Grand Cherokee will only be offered as a 5-seat
model.

- This will be Jeep’s fourth locally assembled model after the Wrangler, Compass and the Meridian.

- Deliveries to begin by early December.

As per ACI, the Grand Cherokee will be priced at ₹ 80+ lac ex-showroom and will be powered by a 2.0 lit turbo-petrol engine as the only available powertrain. Wonder why can't they price it a little more reasonably now that it is assembled locally.

Sounds like a DOA offering to me!

Waste of time. In the Cherokee lineup only the SRT or the big bad Hemi is a halo product. I think poor old Jeep is a dead duck in India. Just a matter of time. Which makes me wonder about my long standing dream of one day owning a Jeep Wrangler (second hand of course).

Where is the six cylinder diesel? With just a 2.0 litre petrol, it cannot be priced anything more than 60 lakhs OTR. Otherwise, it will sink without a trace. Jeep simply doesn't have the brand pull of the Germans.

Although not a fan of Jeep's pricing strategy, I don't think they can go much lower than the expected 80 lacs figure. The fortuner GR sport is already at 60 lacs on road (a vehicle which is a couple of segments below). IMO a 90 lac on-road figure would be decent for the Grand Cherokee considering Jeep is not after numbers either.

I know that everyone is bashing Jeep or FCA for launching a measly 2 Litre Engine in India for 80 Lakhs, truth be told and if this holds right, it will be a rocket of an Engine.

Its going to be 270-hp/290-lb-ft 2.0L eTorque inline four-cylinder as per https://www.motortrend.com/features/...e-differences/.

Whereas, the 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine boasts 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque.

Happy to see Jeep is still bullish about Indian market. The Grand Cherokee is a sweet car and has that quintessential SUV look. Looking forward to experience the configurable air suspension. Also hope they bring those fancy features like night vision camera, McIntosh sound system and the passenger screen.

I don't get why people are upset with a 2.0l engine. Manufacturers the world over are downsizing their engine displacement and a 2l engine can be found doing duty in all sorts of luxury cars.

re: 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee caught testing in India. Edit: Launched at 77.5 lakhs

Jeep is ending the production of Right-Hand drive Cherokee.

Quote:
Production of the Jeep Cherokee for main markets outside of North America, including right hand drive models, is ending in a drive to focus marketing and sales resources into key volume models
Quote:
With no electrified powertrains to offer, Jeep recently discontinued the Cherokee in Europe, leaving as one of the few export markets for the mid-sizer and one of the last remaining right-hand drive markets.
A replacement for the Cherokee is expected to debut before 2025 and offer an electric powertrain.

What can one take away from this? they are just off-loading remaining stocks in CBU form here? or remainder of kits in CKD if they go that route?
A la previous Karoq and Polo GTI never to be seen again
