re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2022 | EDIT: It's the Scorpio-N

Because I prefer diesel engines, the options are few and straightforward. Scorpio or the Jeep Meridian were few of my options. Scorpio N won me over with its excellent road presence and performance.

Voted for the Baleno.

I don't own and not in the market for one either. My vote went to the Baleno because Maruti improved the quality of the car considerably in this iteration, and since it sells like hot cakes and is more and more becoming the default go to hatch for Indian car buyers, a safer, better built Baleno got my vote !

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2022 | EDIT: It's the Scorpio-N

It seems evident that the TeamBHP - COTY is going to be the Mahindra Scorpio N, but my vote goes to Toyota Hilux!

Reasons :

Opens up a new segment. Other manufacturer's can bring in their pickups.
Global product with Toyota reliability.
Good alternative to the very common Fortuners.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2022 | EDIT: It's the Scorpio-N

Voted for Scorpio N

Following are the reasons for my choice:

1. Great design and road-presence for a BoF steed
2. Both gearbox options with 4x4 thrown in as well in select variants
3. Available in both diesel and petrol mills. Both are powerful and refined.
4. Packed with features
5. Unbeatable bang for your buck

Voted for the Carens.
Space, practicality and comfort at a reasonable price. That sealed the deal for me.

Voted for Tiago Ev.
Primarily cos I didn't even thought we can get a legit EV in this price range for next 5 years atleast and Tata made it happen. It's a game changer especially with diesel engines on a decline. I am eagerly awaiting for a TD and could be the replacement for our Tiago diesel.

I voted for the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.
A proper hybrid from a mainstream manufacturer. If any company can popularize strong hybrids, its Maruti Suzuki.
The vitara is also a big evolution for suzuki suvs, lots of features, lots of tech and premium appeal.

Voted for ScorpioN.

Beyond the drive train, the tech, the luxury, the compromises etc there is a character to the vehicle that it is very much a Scorpio - you get the feeling that its exactly how it needs to be done.

Citroen C3. A fundamental, pure car for the hoi polloi!

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2022 | EDIT: It's the Scorpio-N

Mahindra Scorpio N

Completing the hat-trick of runaway market success for its Maker, the twin peaks on its nose echo two things that the scorpio got right.

1. This is as close as we could get this year, to the elusive One Car do All. The Scorpio-N can actually take your family, in-laws and pet, on a comfortable intercity run, and be right back in time for that weekend dose of heady off the road trail-mix for curing middle age man-o-pause. You can pull up to your nephew's wedding in your blingy lehengas and sharp sherwanis and drive it straight to work for that Board Meeting in your sharpest suit. Nowhere will it look out of place.

2. Stubbornly sticking to its guns with BOF, when everyone including its erstwhile rivals, and their mother in law have gone monocoque. That elusive combination of AT+4WD at its price segment. And a 4XPLOR shift on fly 4WD system that works, and works impressively well enough to hold up decently against its purpose built offroader sibling.

If there was a second vote, it would go to the Slavia twins., which remain the last bastion of pure sedanic pleasure when the world around is standing on stilts.

I vote for Volkswagen Virtus

Totally Fun to drive car. 1.5 TSI+DSG definitely makes one happy!
Carries the VW DNA with grace- build quality, overall design is good.
Most importantly- can revive the sedan segment in India. love VW for this bold move!

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2022 | EDIT: It's the Scorpio-N

Only two choices came to my mind, the Scorpio N and thwTucson.

While i have not driven the Scorpio N yet, have drivnen the previous gen Tucson for a considerable time and distance.

That Brilliant R Series 2 Litre Diesel alone is the main reason for the Tucson to get my vot.

Earlier it was mated to an 6 Speed Auto, now with the 8 Speed, it should b even better now.

Voted for Virtus as I prefer looks of Virtus more than Slavia. The best vehicle to drive in 20 lakhs category with a well balanced suspension, safety , good engines, ground clearance and space. Easily the best vehicle in the sedan segment along with Slavia. The Hyryder & Vitara excel only in city drivability and city fuel economy. Performance on the highway is below average and NVH levels are poor in comparison.

Speaks volumes about how the company has been getting it's product positioning spot-on! The waiting lists on these new age Mahindra products (Thar - winner of 2020, XUV 7OO - winner of 2021) are also proof that products can appeal to both the enthusiasts and the mass market as well.
While I agree Mahindra is on a roll with its SUVs (which would admittedly be a big factor in its positive ratings), one unmistakable reason its scoring a COTY every year in this forum is because moderators set the tone for the vote.
Had it not been the case, there would have been a healthier competition for the title at least for this year, rather than the runaway, Gujarat-like 'absolute majority' for the Scorprio.

Our forum has an innate urge to echo the influencers .

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2022 | EDIT: It's the Scorpio-N

My vote goes to Toyota Hyryder. It is a hot segment and hybrid tech from Toyota should further heat up the segment and force other makers to also explore hybrid options. Our market will benefit from these hybrids in the near future(read another decade easily) as it can potentially save 50% of fuel in urban conditions.

Scorpio-N came close second for me. Mahindra for a change has not overdone the exteriors of this car and in general the car is an upgrade compared to previous generation.
