November 2022 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

NOTES:

1: Thanks to the team at Auto Punditz for sharing these sales numbers with us!

2: Only cars that sell 500+ units (and thus, the relevant ones) have been included in the gainers & losers chart.

3. These manufacturer-reported sales numbers are factory dispatches to dealerships. They are NOT retail sales figures to end customers.

Re: November 2022 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Some more facts and figures:

- Around 3,22,070 passenger cars were sold in the Indian market in November 2022. The sales increased by over 31% when compared to November last year and the industry dropped by 4.2% in comparison to October 2022.

- Crossed the 3 Lakh dispatch figure for the eighth month in this calendar year. November 2022 was also the sixth month in a row that dispatches have driven past the 3 Lakh unit count.

- Owing to increased production levels and pending backorders, the industry managed to report significant growth over the same period last year. However, dispatches fell by 4.2% when compared to Oct'22.

- Maruti Suzuki is already operating at 90% manufacturing. It is also aggressively expanding its CNG portfolio. It recently introduced CNG in the Nexa channel with Baleno and XL6 getting the CNG variants. Maruti Suzuki now has a total of 12 models with the CNG option.

-Hyundai crossed 48k dispatches and was able to maintain its Market Share. Hyundai is also poised to achieve the highest-ever domestic sales in 2022 since its inception in India.

- Tata Motors reported wholesales of 46,040 units in November 2022 and recorded a Market Share of 14.3%. Tata is now regularly tailing Hyundai for the second spot and was just 1,962 units behind the Korean auto major.

- M&M reported YoY growth of 56% and strengthened its position in the fourth spot.

-Kia India recorded its third best month ever with dispatches of 24,025 units in Nov'22.

-Citroen ranked last and fell below Jeep's volumes in November 2022

- The Top 25 Selling Cars constituted to over 77% of the cars sold in November 2022. It had 10 models from Maruti, 4 from Hyundai, Mahindra & Tata each, and 3 from Kia. In terms of volumes, Maruti Suzuki models contributed over 49 percent to the Top 25

-Baleno+Glanza combined sold a mammoth 25,338 units and had a clear dominance as the best-selling model.

- Nexon continues to be the best-selling SUV and was also the second highest-selling car of Nov'22. The advantage of having Petrol/Diesel/Electric combination is clearly pushing Nexon volumes and has helped it sustain volumes in long run.

-The increasing MUV/MPV sales is highlighting the rise of the segment. Ertiga & XL6 continues to do wonders for Maruti Suzuki - Both models combined recorded despatches of 16,806 units in November 2022.

- Constraints at the TKM facility brings Grand Vitara+ Hyryder to 7549 units?

Re: November 2022 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Every time I see this thread, I keep wondering about Toyota vellfire. This is a 1 crore car and it keeps selling anywhere between 50 and 100 units per month and every month. Do we have any other car in the market which costs 1 crore and sells similar numbers month over month?

Whenever I go to the Toyota showroom to service my cars, I usually see a vellfire getting ready to be delivered.

Jeep Compass going further down in sales despite decent discounts on offer. Perhaps their ever increasing reliability reputation is finally catching up with them.

The VW Tiguan and Octavia are an odd one. I can never tell if it's sales that have genuinely gone down or is still CKD kit supply issues that are the bottleneck.

From 8,052 units last month to 4,433 units this month!! That’s an alarming decline of almost 45%.

What happened to MS Grand Vitara?

Tucson numbers are again lesser than Meridian. Overall I think Meridian is a bigger success than Tucson. But guess Meridian have eaten well in to Compass numbers. Ever since Meridian was launched, Compass numbers have significantly reduced.

Citroen sold 804 units of the C3? For a 2022 entrant in the hot C1 segment its
It would have been 805.

Seeing the waiting period the Grand Vitara and Hyryder commands this must be a supply side issue.

We could say it's poor market research. In a country that loves features, cost cutting on tachometer, rear wiper/washer would only fetch this. With a supreme manual gearbox, a TC would've been bang on. They could've simply delayed it by a couple of quarters, and sold it with proper features and a good auto box.

Citroen needs to learn a thing or two from Kia.
