If you have a regular or daily usage, then Ioniq 5 is the future proof option you have now.

What seriously? And here I was hoping BMW to surprise us with a 30i, single regular 3 is not available.

The new BMW X1 will be offered with a petrol (sDrive 18i) and a diesel (sDrive 18d) engine option in India. While the petrol is a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder unit producing 136hp and 230Nm of torque, the diesel mill is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit that produces 150hp and 360Nm of torque. Both engines will come mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, with power being sent to the rear wheels only.

BMW claims the petrol version can sprint from 0-100kph in 9.2sec, while the diesel can do the same in 8.9sec. The petrol returns a fuel efficiency of 15.03kpl, while the diesel returns 19.23kpl.
This detuning is due to upcoming CAFE norms from 01 April 2023.

It is a 2 liter engine (1995 cc) but detuned to make a measly 150 BHP termed as 18d.

So user will have to remap the car to get it to original spec of 190 BHP unless even other hardware like turbo are also downgraded. But you lose warranty while doing so.

re: Next-gen BMW X1, now launched at 45.90 lakhs!

A fancy bmw making less power than a Mahindra or Tata which costs less than half. Never thought I would see the day. It's funny how when most mainstream manufacturers have recently breached the 150+ hp magic number, the quintessential sports brand is going backward.

I think this news might be partially correct and this X1 is most likely a hybrid with an electric motor providing the remaining power.

So now hector makes more power has more features is half the price and more spacious, except for the anti china sentiments, it pretty much trumps X1 in every single department. The timing might be better on X1, but overall it’s just absolutely not worth it.

Confused! Is it a RWD or FWD?

Along with sdrive18d there's also an xdrive23d with 208hp and 400nm being made from the same 2 liter Diesel engine.

re: Next-gen BMW X1, now launched at 45.90 lakhs!

Yikes, the 1.5L 3-cylinder B38 makes its way into the X1 just now? The successor of this engine, the N13, was a 1.6L 4-cylinder that made precisely the same horsepower in the 116i stock, which they sold in India almost 10 years ago!

This engine, the B38, from what I gather is not that much lighter nor efficient and definitely not as tuner-friendly as its predecessor. Not even by a long shot.

BMW really has come a long way from making front-mid longitudinally mounted RWDs to transverse-mounted FWDs. While still trying to convince people they are still the "Ultimate driving machine".

How tuner friendly was the old N13 engine? The old X1 came from putting this very car on stills and that is exactly what made it special. Read on below, about the F-series BMW that is slept on by most enthusiasts. Smell the coffee folks, for there is only 1 RWD hatchback in existence, in the world!

What a bummer!

I had high hopes on this BMW X1 and my spouse was looking forward to buying this after I talked them out of buying an Audi Q3 last year.

This still is a good looking car, spacious as somewhat cheap in developed markets. And in the US now it only comes with xDrive with a starting price of $38k (or roughly the same price as a fully loaded Hyundai Tucson). All of this had raised my hopes and its now coming with a 150 hp diesel engine and front wheel drive? So a reduction of 40 hp/70 Nm of power/torque. We used to own a 2012 Skoda Octavia which had more power, and that was 10 years ago.

An IONIQ 5 which competes with cars a segment above (that too EVs) is priced at 44 lakhs, less road tax, no trips to petrol stations, has more power, 2 sec quicker 0 to 100, more features, better technology...I can keep going...

Vote with your wallet folks.

re: Next-gen BMW X1, now launched at 45.90 lakhs!

Seems like we will have only the 118d and 118i. X drive will be on higher variants I think. Prelaunch vehicles have been unveiled to BMW dealership staff I think. Got these from BMW SA. They should have launched the 23i at least. Disappointed.
These are the pics from pre-launch I suppose.

This new gen U11 X1 looks so good, only if it had more powerful engines to back those stylish looks. Would’ve been one killer package and it is just as big on space as a X3.

We were bashing Mercedes-Benz for offering a 1.5L petrol engine in the C200 C-Class and BMW is doing the same for their bread-and-butter model.

Even the GLA 1.4L petrol engine is better than these two new engines in the X1.
