Re: Next-gen BMW X1, now launched at 45.90 lakhs!

It isn't a proper SUV without X-Drive, doesn't have much space. An enormous chrome grill that can suck in copious amounts of air for an engine that makes as much power as a remapped GT-TSI. This is positioned to fail right from day 1. The interiors are simply ugly and the exterior, uglier. Door handles to wheels to the grill - everything is ugly. if the intention of doing all this was to cut costs, wonder why it costs 60L on-road. They could have provided a little less LED, a little more horsepower.

Special mention to a steering wheel looks like a shoddy aftermarket job. The protrusion of the hub part of the wheel and those buttons! Made me rub my eyes a few times before I believed it was the M-Sport steering wheel.

Just compare this to the M-Sport steering wheel in the G20.

Maybe they need to learn a thing or two from VAG when it comes to engineering good looking components and using them across their range.

This video popped up on my youtube recommendations and it makes me very sad about the current situation of the automotive industry:

The engine is the heart of the car and if you downgrade it to these levels why pay absurd amount more just for the badge which means nothing these days.
WOW.. can't believe that even X6 is gone too. The X4 was real value for money with the 30d engine (~265 bhp and 625 Nm). And, this new X1 looks like a half hearted effort from BMW India. I think it is not worth Rs 60 lacs...

Re: Next-gen BMW X1, now launched at 45.90 lakhs!

What an absolute disappointment from a launch I was so keen about. I really thought this might be the car to get along the competition - Good looks (IMO) and the least I'd get is sheer driving pleasure but oh boy, didn't they surprise us all.
Weirdly the Audi became attractive now. But then it just doesn't pick at the heartstrings and the brain starts to take over taking us down the windy road towards Skodas and Vags and then some to the Mahindra.

Why BMW why??

It looks like a BMW and is certainly priced like a BMW but sorry! It’s not a BMW.

Lol, the good old days. I remember doing that in our old Santro too. In the Linea, the AC used to get cut off temporarily when I stepped on the accelerator and revved to the redline.
Never thought I’d see the day when an X1 needs similar intervention to overtake a Taigun.

While everything on paper sounds downgrade as echoed from this forum.

Is there any possibility of a potent mild hybrid compensating the 3Cyclinder petrol engine to make up?

Re: Next-gen BMW X1, now launched at 45.90 lakhs!

My Jeep Compass 4X4 has better power on paper than what BMW diesel is trying to sell at twice the price. I do understand that real time acceleration can be much better and linear than JC. The crucial buying decision of an engine, its power and drivetrain seems to be lost with this gen X1. I rather look for a good used previous gen X1. I drove this car and what an engine, power and drive train it is?

Seriously! Is BMW team reading this? Other than CAFE norms, what research, analysis they must have done to arrive at this engine for X1?

Re: Next-gen BMW X1, now launched at 45.90 lakhs!

Reading through the thread, Cost sheet and the feature list shared by my BMW SA, I think I am going to stick the Tuscon Signature Diesel booking even if the delivery gets delayed by a couple more months! The new X1 is disappointing on so many levels.

X1 in a nutshell~

B- Big Grills
M- Minuscule Engines
W- Aftermarket Wheels

Still feel it’s gonna sell imo.

Re: Next-gen BMW X1, now launched at 45.90 lakhs!

The X1 was the aspirational car, the entry to the BMW brand. Many people bought it as their first luxury car. Over the past couple years, they removed certain features from the X1, discontinued the xDrive in the last gen, and now we have a 3-cylinder BMW. As most members pointed out, Mercedes at least has the 220d as a powerful alternative, with 4-Matic. Audi has the 190PS engine with Quattro in the Q3. But the new gen X1 doesn't seem to have any USP over the other two, maybe other than the latest platform and some tech.
No enthusiast will go for this, as it cannot offer "Sheer Driving Pleasure"

Re: Next-gen BMW X1, now launched at 45.90 lakhs!

Ugly oversized front grill, underpowered, 3 cylinder engine(petrol), FWD, A/C controls in the touchscreen, run flat tyres, weird looking phat steering, miniscule gear selector and I'm sure I've missed a few other negatives.

Sure it has a few new features but aren't BMW's supposed to be about power and driving feel? Are they trying to substitute the BMW driving experience with features? Are they trying to be more "Mercedes like" in features while forgetting about the essence of a BMW? Why dilute your brand identity when your brand is becoming more and more common in India these days?

A few years ago, I remember reading posts on the earlier X1s where purists would scoff at the idea of a FWD BMW. I wonder what they'd have to say about this new avatar of the X1.

Re: Next-gen BMW X1, now launched at 45.90 lakhs!

Never judge a book by its cover. I think before passing judgment, we should at least wait for Team-BHP review and after that our own test-drive experience.

I don't agree with this trend that anything which has a 3-cylinder engine sucks. No, not in my book.
