re: Mahindra Thar 2WD, now launched at Rs. 9.99 lakhs

If Mahindra went with the 1.5L Diesel and took advantage of sub4m tax structure for an attractive introductory price, why didn't they do the same for petrol adding the 1.2L turbosport TGDi engine from XUV3OO for same advantage in petrol department?

Would 130BHP & 230Nm torque make the Thar too slow? Agreed its atleast 400kgs heavier than the XUV3OO.

For those who booked today, whats your booking status? Any confirmation on the introductory price protection?

re: Mahindra Thar 2WD, now launched at Rs. 9.99 lakhs

Killer pricing from Mahindra but they have again played that same card here as this pricing is valid for first 10000 customers only which is kinda sad. As per my knowledge they will give it 1-2 price hikes to thar very soon after analysing Jimny's response and pricing strategy. I feel Maruti should give a tough fight to mahindra so that customers on both the sides can actually enjoy the low pricing game for long.

Agreed. That pic with the arm rest.. It was misleading to me.

Indeed, there will be some migration to the 5 door, from existing Thar 3 door owners, but I think the overall numbers will be negligible. Reason being, family pressure will ensure they look at other alternatives to ‘another Thar’, even if it is a 5 door.

It says ‘Order in Process’. Doesn’t show ‘Introductory Price’ like it did in case of Scorpio N.

Here are the links to the Front & Rear arm rests from m2all.

Front: https://www.m2all.com/mahindra-genui...mrest-kit.html

The front arm rest looks removable. It fits into the cup holders.

Rear: https://www.m2all.com/mahindra-genui...mrest-set.html

This clarifies the doubt as it'll be an accessory only. Not sure if the costs are on the higher side as labor is charged extra.

Now this image below makes me feel that traveling in the rear seat will be a pain during long drives. It looks too tight and uncomfortable. The wheel humps restrict a wider seat layout to accomodate a center armrest.

My booking Id is B-8043405 and I've been promised delivery by July 12. The booking docket says the ex-showroom price as Rs. 10,99,999. It's not clear if I am protected against any change in price at the time of delivery, not explicitly at least

The Thar RWD, to the best of my understanding, is powered by a four-cylinder diesel engine which does duty on XUV 300. The 117 CRDe - is it a three-pot engine? I'll be surprised if it is. Could someone in the know please clarify?

Did you book through the website? Yes/No, could you post a grab of this date and/or booking ID ?

I did not book through the website. I received a whole lot of information in a pdf docket from the dealer, making a screen grab difficult. However, I will try to give you one, if possible.

Yes. The Thar 3 door is not comfortable in the back seat for long rides except for small built people. But when strapped in nicely and if you put in a cushion or two, and ensure that you drive steadily and don't go across really bad terrain, then a 300-400 km ride can be managed by a small built person quite happily.

Note: In its stock form with stock dampers and suspension the Thar bounces about and sways from side to side and pitches under braking. This is a pain, aside from the fact that the rear seat is best occupied by only one person at the max. As I have explained elsewhere on our Forum, I have upgraded my suspension to the AVO adjustable dampers which increases comfort exponentially by seriously mitigating and removing the above uncomfortable movements. This is therefore, in the Thar, an absolutely necessary investment in comfort as per me. For more details check the other Thar threads.

This 117 bhp Crde engine is a 4 cylinder 1.5 litre unit from the Marazzo and not from the Bolero NEO. Torque flows in well. It may be a small engine but doesn't really feel small according to some of the trustworthy reviewers like Bunny Punia of 91Wheels.
He says one doesn’t need to be concerned about the size of the engine coming down from 2.2 litre to 1.5 litre in terms of daily useability.
You can refer to the Youtube link below.

re: Mahindra Thar 2WD, now launched at Rs. 9.99 lakhs

Thar 2WD is going to be my family's first new vehicles. We have always bought second hand vehicles at bargain prices. This is also due to the fact that our annual running is 7-8k Kms.

I have couple of questions:

1. How do we ascertain whether we booked in the first 10,000 introductory pricing slot?

2. Is there any price protection being offered on Thar 2WD?

3. How many subsequent price increases one can see in next 6 months?

TIA
