Why no AT in 1.5 Diesel?? What sense does it make?? In a city like Bangalore it makes perfect sense to have a AT in 1.5 Diesel to commute in day to day traffic. It will be a absolute killer offering and will give tough competition in the market.

Can the MLD available with 4X4 Thar be retrofitted in this RWD Thar? For Rs. 50000-60000 extra this RWD can be quite a capable off-roader for most of the buyers.

I am so happy to see such a juicy pricing on an amazing machine. As others have already rightly pointed out, the rough roading potential of the 2wd is more alluring to opt for at the price of the 4wd.

I have already decided to buy a used Thar 2wd in 2026 after having put a 2.5-3L kms in my Figo.

Carwale Says: for Bangalore. The Diesel Hardtop 2WD RWD even though manual, is extremely well priced. Ducking neatly under the 4m length mark and the 2 litre capacity mark.

However, the Petrol RWD 2WD is about as expensive as what I paid for my 4X4 in Feb 2021.

They should have given a Petrol MT option too, the comparatively lighter clutch and that power with the MT would have been an enticing package

No white? Could understand if they didn't give the dirty copper in the AX, but the white would have suited the workhorse nature of the AX perfectly.

I saw a feed on my twitter handle about the new thar being launched. I booked the diesel variant and already the local dealer representative is in touch. Order confirmation is already done. Hope I don't have to wait like I had to for my XUV 700

The diesel 2wd comes with a rear diff-lock I heard? That makes a better buy then. Everything about the Diesel 2WD Thar makes sense except it’s very short length - only good as a 2nd car not primary as it is essentially a 2 seater with luggage space at the rear. Definitely not a replacement for the Jeep taxis plying interiors of rural India due to its short length.

The 5D 2WD Thar with rear diff locks when launched would make that great family car for long distance travel to hill stations and jungle roads with that bit of extra room for family/kids +luggage.

Good pricing by Mahindra for sure and they are on a roll. This is going to be hit for sure. 1.5 engine makes more sense for people who want to buy Thar mainly for show-off purpose and not for off-roading, mainly city use or some highway runs. This Thar mainly accommodate 4 people max, mostly 2 people. For that kind of load 1.5 liter diesel is more than enough and 300 NM torque makes pickup breeze too. Also this will be quite efficient and provide 20+ FE on highways.

Hope Mahindra will launch similar model in 5 door too with starting price of 12.99 or 13.49 lakhs. That will be surely great deal. If they launch 5 door with attractive price, surely I am buying one, in black color.

My dealer says there is no way we can know the present status of bookings done. We will have to wait for Mahi to tell us the actual price of the Thar to be delivered i.e. whether the booking done falls within the first 10000 mark. But the guys at the dealership say we would know very soon.

This is in reply to COMMUTER Salute your forbearance and foresight. What a sound finance decision. Please don't wait that much to drive one around though. The best idea is to rent a full fledged Thar one of these days and do a 500 km hill trip. Come back and then start planning to buy a Merc after having put in 3 lac km on your Figo Now, don't rell me you want to rent a Merc.Cheers
