Any is this real that XP95 is additive at pump level? This is even more disturbing as I don't have any confidence on anything at fuel station level changes.
All petrol grades being sold today are E12 and E15. While normal petrol is 91 octane, XP95 is 95 octane. It is not just basic petrol with some additives. XP95 is an E12 blend.

Sadly - the aam admi has no time to get into details regarding a lot of things in life and this is exactly what the government and the oil.comlanies are taking an advantage of. How many folks who visit the pump consciously notice and look for this?

Thanks for the information. Till now, I thought our petrol is E5 and E10. Why can't they show it in the meter or pump or invoice. Is there any way to know which pumps provide E12 and E15?

I got the Octane rating and thought 95 or any Octane rated fuel (93, 97, 100) can only be produced at refinery. I believed that additives at pump level don't boost octane number (example - Shell Vpower). Am I right?

Skoda Kushaq recommends 95 Octane as default but upto E10 only. So even if I fill XP95, it is still having more Ethanol than it is designed for

There is no E10 on sale anymore. We are above and beyond that threshold. Mostly the supply is E12, sometimes and in some places E15. There is no marking for this. This is just your normal petrol.

E20 dispensers and nozzles are duly marked.

I am not convinced about the effects and effectiveness of octane boasters. Better to buy the higher octane grade straight from the pump, wherever available.

Bumping up this thread. This video is by Sunderdeep Singh , which has some information on the E20 blending and its impact on existing E10/E5 cars.

Further expert comments are welcome.

Re: List all cars that are E20 and E20+ petrol compliant

With E20 compliance kicking in, am I wrong to fear that buying second hand cars today would be a wrong financial choice (in terms of unknown maintenance costs) from a long term stability stand point ? I for one would love to own the Octavia 2.0 TSI and was on the look out in the seconds market. The prices there are only sky rocketing and may be because demand is increasing. But I am not sure if buyers are considering the E20 issue especially post 2025 time frame. Do guide.

Absolutely.

I will strongly dissuade anyone from getting any pre owned car that is not E20 complaint, from a peaceful long term ownership perspective. Unfortunately, that’s like 99% of all cars on the road today. It is a huge risk. The issues created are such that they leave you stranded in the middle of the road. Repairs are expensive. And failure will happen, it is a question of when and not if.

In the near to mid future, I see a major correction happening in used cars prices. The current bubble has to burst, and demand for E20 compliance can very well be the trigger. It will be similar to how diesel car resale prices crashed in Delhi NCR after the 10 year rule. Didn’t happen immediately, took a few years. Look at the situation now.

Visited IOCL pump next to Delhi Golf Club. The fuel dispenser with E20 Petrol has been prominently marked with E20 Petrol.

What is the ethanol situation for Nayara(Essar), Reliance (Jio), Shell?

On highways I prefer Nayara and would be great to know what they are offering.

Idea for PSU oil cos: someone knowledgeable can file RTI? Then it can be a firm basis for serious discussion outside the forum

I have also been thinking about this. I have tried to (naively) get a response from IOCL, MoPNG on X (Twitter) about the continued availability of E10 but (unsurprisingly) they have avoided responding. IOCL has admitted that all fuel has 10-12% ethanol already. They cheekily said that I could buy XP100 if i didnt want ethanol mixed fuel. I am aware that SIAM had raised objections on the ethanol mixing as well, but these have obviously been ignored. The current policy documents deliberately leave out any assurance about continued availability of E10 after 2025.

If anyone is a subject matter expert we can work together to file an RTI and eventually a PIL.

I don't know anyone personally but if someone can take the RTI (Right to information) or PIL route (all just to get info), then it could be useful.

Bumping up my question again, does anyone know about ethanol mixing % by private players? Shell, Reliance, Nayara/Essar?

Re: List all cars that are E20 and E20+ petrol compliant

Was checking a Cayenne for a known and turns out all Porsches being currently are E5/ E10 compliant only per SA. Haven’t physically seen the rating but SA checked other models as well.

Is this even legally allowed or is there no law per se?

Reliance has started to blend with 20% ethanol from this year at selected outlets, don’t know how much is the pan INDIA coverage. Also no idea about other private players. But I guess it’s a mandatory regulation from government. So, I assume all would have started blending or in near future would do it.
