I just saw an image on FB showing the new Baleno has E20 compliant sticker inside the fill area lid.

Thanks for the link! To sum it up, here's one statement from the minister which will answer why ethanol is being pushed down our throats.

here (Delhi) even for taking decisions,” he said.

India is producing wayyy more sugar than it can hope to consume domestically. Sugar farmers are a convenient excuse. This is all about sugar mill owners, all of whom happen you be politicians themselves or very strongly connected. Converting sugar to ethanol gives them better returns than exporting sugar, and this diversion becomes an easy way to not let sugar prices fall. We talk of big oil, this is big sugar.

Re: List all cars that are E20 and E20+ petrol compliant

For 1.2 VW TSI engines, generic statement in the user manual says EN228 European standard which translates to 10% ethanol. Surprisingly no mention of it in the fuel caps. Couldn’t find anything more accurate but VAG guru’s please add on.

the 1.2 TSI engines are not E20 compatible; the new 1.0 and 1.5 TSI which are manufactured post march this year are compatible and they come with a sticker in the fuel cap too.

Not just the VW, there is no old car (pre 2023) that is E20 rated. The requirement just didn’t exist before. All old cars across manufacturers are rated for upto 10% ethanol blend only.

Just shot an email to shell - ULP and Vpower are a 12% ethanol blend. At least here in Chennai.

Reading from the above (I may be wrong), there are some E20 ready ones - BMW, Honda. I would not be surprised if manufacturers claim biofuels don’t impact perf figures.

Only certain BMW petrol cars were rated for E25, they are the exception. Hondas were all E10 rated, despite whatever statements their people had been making. They officially made the cars E20 compliant only with the launch of the 2023 City facelift.

Don’t go by claims. Go by what’s written in the manual, or on the sticker by the side of the fuel cap.

Oh yes, hence my post where I went straight to my manual. I never take a chance. It’s frustrating to see unnecessary curbs on simple joys of common petrolhead folk.

Quite clueless on Honda Civic 2019 ( above is extract from Manual) about E20 compliance. Will appreciate if experts can shed light on this please.
Surprised to see that they have not mentioned India anywhere. Though Civic 2019 is CKD, Honda should have mentioned what is applicable for India.
The petrol lid tag shows RON 91 only.

Re: List all cars that are E20 and E20+ petrol compliant

Can someone confirm if the new i20 is E20 complaint? I’m almost certain that Hyundai has made their petrol engines ready for E20, but a quick check here.

Thank you.

Re: List all cars that are E20 and E20+ petrol compliant

Is there any way to judge the ethanol blend % by looking at the specific gravity or density displayed at the fuel pumps? Any thoughts

Re: List all cars that are E20 and E20+ petrol compliant

Today after filling full tank at an IOCL pump in Kerala, I casually asked the manager what is the Ethanol blend at present. He told that the information is present in the sales invoice from IOCL and asked his staff to check it. The staff took the invoice file to me and I was surprised to see that it mentioned E5 for normal petrol and E12 for XP95. The staff confirmed that if the invoice says so, then that is the blend they received.
