EV version of Syros is doubtful. A hybrid version will be available in a year after the launch of Petrol and Diesel version this month.

A Summary of all we know up till now:

• No Hybrid however electric maybe on Horizon, acceptable as hybrid will be next year first on the Seltos as they may not be able to price Hybrid on smaller cars competitively

• Size wise seems tad bigger than Sonet, not sure which platform this is as the doors look like Casper yet its bigger than Sonet (seems on paper). Maruti Gave a 5 Star can Kia also, under all that bling

Ofcourse. I am a Carens fan. And after sitting in the Carens, the Sonet and Seltos feels like rip off VFM wise.

The Sonet D AT while being VFM is cramped. Also most of the external size is wasted to rounded bulky bodylines that doesn't do anything for interior space. The Syros by the looks of it, is under sub 4m, while maximising space without compromising for macho styling.

The Syros would be smaller and much easy to use in city than the Carens. Not everyone wants a 3rd row and Kia knows the gap in the market. It is like not everyone wants a Hycross, but people buy it for the T badge. If Toyota launches a Seltos or Harrier proper Toyota (not rebadges), it will be a super hot seller and many Hycross owners will convert.

The leaks and rumours about the engine specifications and the platform suggests that this could be a sub 4m vehicle which will enable it to be priced lower. It's highly unlikely that it will go head to head with Karens or Seltos (hopefully). The exteriors, as many suggested, looks like a Wagon R XL, which could both be a good thing and a bad thing. While the offbeat, polarising design may not be welcomed as much as compact SUVs, the familiarity of design (thanks to Wagon R) will help its acceptance. The MUV silhouette usually has less desirability in the Indian market though. The front fascia bears an uncanny semblance to the Punch EV as well. The placement of headlights is a bit of a worry in bumper to bumper traffic though. A brush with a motorcycle's crashguard could cost a pretty penny to the owner.

What impressed me over the exteriors are those interiors. Looks pretty premium for the segment if the production vehicle actually looks like that. We're in the market for a vehicle in the 15L price range and currently XUV 3XO in the AX5L guise takes the top spot in our shortlist with Kia Carens at a close second. If the Syros undercuts those by quite a margin with nice interiors and creature comforts, that would be an easy pick.

The boxy design and rich feature list will be differentiating factors it seems.
It will be interesting to see which one it will cannibalise from Kia stable Sonet or Seltos.

Oh there are some cars in India whose look will be improved atleast one or two level high by adding just a spare tyre. Tata Punch, Mahindra Scorpio and now this.

Kia's insane variant structure is what drove me away from them while I was in the market for a CSUV.

This car is giving me Skoda Yeti vibes. But i think the actual size will be small. They may like to launch at 15 lakh OTR kind of price to catch up on the mid segment further by own line up.

Spotted a camaflouged test mule in the Hyderabad Bangalore highway, near Anantpur AP. The car was keeping along with our City at 100+kmph. The proportions looked quite balanced unlike the Exter. The car was painted in a matte graphite color.

I think that's the front parking sensors, I highly doubt it's an auto-park feature.
