re: Kia Syros: The company's third SUV to slot in between the Sonet & Seltos

It’s as if Kia India has read my mind!

No matter what others say about the design, I feel like Kia did the right thing. Just take a look at the Sonet, such a good car falling short on space just because of it’s SUV’ish design choices.
To be honest, these sub 4m cars don’t even look like SUVs but end up compromising a lot trying to achieve that look.

The Syros eliminates all that: big on space, even bigger on features!

PS: RIP Kylaq XD

The side profile reminds me of Skoda Yeti.
The car which would have me been my first choice if at all it was available today!!

re: Kia Syros: The company's third SUV to slot in between the Sonet & Seltos

Major design cues taken from Kia Soul. Not necessarily a bad thing, the design does stand out. Interior's are the best in the segment and a 2 above. Complete features galore and it will appeal to younger/ first time buyers. Engines are okay i guess, but Kia's AT transmission choices continue to frustrate me. These are thoroughbred city cars, and you give me a DCT - The one place where a DCT is a nightmare. Folks buying this should be well aware of a DCT's nature and later should not regret about overheating and stuff. Kia if you are listening, just give us a CVT or a TC and see these flying off the shelves. Same goes for Sonet too

Yes it does look bit out of place on otherwise good looking car.

Due to the huge side claddings, Black and grey are the two colors i liked the most.

I tried the same and here is the result.

Kia Syros: The company's third SUV to slot in between the Sonet & Seltos-kia_syros_modified.jpg

Now (after removing those giant black claddings) it's more closer to the Exter I believe(Also reminds me of Qualis and Tavera). Now I get why they have made all the distractions on the exterior design, to make it look so much different than Exter. Also the angle of front windshield of Syros is so much better than the Exter.

I see two issues 1) lack of protection/ recess for the headlight assembly. Even a casual nick by a bicycle will damage the goods. 2) Absolute lacl of protection at the rear, minimal rear bumper protrusion.
The authorities must seriously rethink the sub 4 metre rule, it is causing sub optimal designs to be created just to save on tax.

Dont know if its only me but this (blue) color and overall shape is reminding me of Sumo Grande. people are comparing it with Punch, WagonR, Exter and now Sumo too.

Love the design and the features - would definitely consider this if I was in the market for a new car.

Haha. We are at odds then.
I totally love this off-centre placement. In fact, the first phone I bought for my wife (a Sony Z200) was a style statement and it too had an off-centre placement of the front circular display.

Consider the off-center logo placement as akin to why rings are worn on the ring finger rather than the middle finger.

The car looks great to me. It takes so many styling cues from Kia international EV models like EV3. This scores about Exter in my book solely for ADAS and the better exterior looks. Hopefully there is an EV version down the line.

A car with a small footprint without looking (or feeling) cheap! I am not in the market for this segment but the original design (yes, including a Yeti like window line) has me hooked

Absolutely! The loud horn when locking/unlocking is not only irritating but startling! Yet my 1st gen Creta doesnt chime, just the headlights flash mildly. Good to see Kia bring this back.

The off-centered logo is placed quite beautifully, so I dont have an issue with it. The vintage Land Rover Defenders had the green oval on one side. Here are some more examples for our viewing pleasure :

Design opinions aside, this car, if successful, is going to get expensive. And if not successful, is going to see feature reduction.

With known set of engines, this is one car that should be picked up right at the launch, rather than waiting for reviews and monthly sales figures.

re: Kia Syros: The company's third SUV to slot in between the Sonet & Seltos

Slightly unrelated, but now even KIA India MD Gwanggu Lee is saying that that car prices have gone up by 35-40% in last 3-4 years, owing to safety and emission madates and affording a vehicle has become difficult for mass consumers and hence sales are slowing down. To generate demand, Lee suggested GOI to reduce taxes on smaller cars(under 4m) and let bigger cars be taxed at current rates (SOURCE : TOI). Doesn't this seem to be oft heard lines?

Imagine if this would have been said by Mr. R C Bhargava on behalf of Suzuki. A lot of us would have attacked him and the company he represents saying grapes are sour and calling out their deficiencies. I don't for a moment agree with all he says but it is a fact that bigger car buyers are not feeling the pinch of the current "illusionary growth" economy. It is felt by the slightly less fortunate ones.

Coming back to the Syros, it's a low effort car from KIA. Horrible Exterior with copy pasted interiors from their own international line up cars. It is likely that the next gen Seltos would get more expensive and KIA is filling up this slot with a 4m SUV which gets the tax benefits which offsets the cost of loaded features.

With that positioning, I'd have to buy separate insurance for those headlamps.
