Re: 2023 MG Hector Facelift : A Close Look https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/india...-vs-idv-4.html (Car insurance : Return to invoice vs IDV)
I wanted to share my experience with RTI and Acko to give others a heads-up.
I bought my Hector in 2023 and insured it for the year 2023-24 with Acko, opting for the maximum IDV and all relevant add-ons, including RTI. When it was time for renewal in 2024-25, I renewed via the Acko app but didn’t realize that the RTI add-on was never offered. It wasn’t visible on the insurance renewal time nor the document page either, making it easy to overlook.
I only discovered this in 2025 while comparing other insurers, all of whom already seemed to know my car was due for renewal for 2025-26. Noticing that none of them offered RTI either, I went back to check Acko’s policy and realized they hadn’t included it the previous year either.
After reaching out to Acko’s support, I finally received a response confirming that they only offer RTI for the first year of a car’s policy—never for the second, third, or beyond. This was surprising, as the general understanding is that RTI is available for up to 3–5 years with most insurers.
Despite this, I reluctantly renewed with Acko for the third year, as most other insurers offered an extremely low IDV with no option to increase it. The only exception was TATA AIG, which offered an IDV of ₹22L at a ₹10K discounted premium. However, based on my past experiences with Tata companies, I decided to pass on that option.
Just wanted to give a heads up on anyone with Acko's auto renewal option, double and triple check the policy page before renewal as they don't necessarily offer the same add ons at the time of renewal. |
