Rajat Ji apologies if you were offended. Try to understand from my point of view.

1. Images from this thread suddenly appear on a YT channel.
2. I was not aware the YT channel was your own and that you were presenting the videos.

It is therefore natural that I assumed that the YT channel host had lifted the images from Tbhp and used them. Perhaps the choice of words was harsher than necessary given that it is quite possible that they took permission to use the images.

Again, sincerely apologize for the inappropriate remarks but they were not made with malicious intent. As a matter of fact I have also commented on your first video which ended abruptly as gsrox2007 and I have subbed your channel. Keep up the good work!

Re: Maruti Jimny 4-door @ Auto Expo 2023

Jimny factory fitted speakers upgraded with Rockford Fosgate. The factory speakers are quite small and hence the installation space in the doors. We would need to keep that in mind that we will have limited choice while selecting set of door speakers for Jimny.

A year old review of the 3 dr Jimny but well presented and articulated.

Re: Maruti Jimny 4-door @ Auto Expo 2023

So today I went to Kandivali Nexa Mumbai & checked out the Jimny. The car’s build quality definitely feels a notch above the rest of the Marutis.
I’m 5’9 for reference, the legroom & shoulder room felt adequate but the seats of both rows do lack the correct amount of thigh support., I don’t know what other taller BHPians have to say about this. The boot space is generous and the tailgate is heavy, good that Maruti has provided hydraulics for the functionality. The feature set is good for it’s purpose but Maruti could’ve added bottle holders in doorpads. I heard other fellow prospect buyers already discussing about after market modifications for the Jimny.
The sales executive speculated 14lacs on road cost for the top end variant. Test drives to be available from May.

About the rear seats.
The second row in the Jimny definitely is tight for a tall person. Headroom is a headache and yes the under thigh support is less. The rear seat backs have only two positions - near-upright and slightly-reclined. There is space under the front seat to place the feet. But I as a tall person of 6.2 personally will not be able to sit in the rear seat of the Jimny beyond short distances for short periods of time.

I have indeed sat in my own Thar with my friend Bibendum driving all the way to Coorg when we did the puppy rescue mission in Feb 2021 and yes though there is very little space and it is a bit awkward to ‘stow’ one’s feet under the front seat of the Thar when sitting at the rear, the rear recline being more and overall width and headroom in the Thar, being bigger, helps a lot for a tall person like me. My Thar’s rear seat actually reclines more. It has more headroom. But the space for the feet is awkward. You have to squash them under the front seat and the transmission tunnel and awkward design doesn’t help. The under thigh support in my Thar is still not sufficient, basically one is able to ‘manage’ because of the overall ‘bigness’ of the Thar.

Coming to the front seats.
Yes the Jimny front seats could have had better under thigh support but I think somehow they didnt think of tall people when they designed it. Saying this, when I sat in the front seats there was adequate headroom and with some adjustments in the seat back position, I think I could drive comfortably for long distances and bump about on bad roads too. The seats themselves are well cushioned and comfy to sit on.

I ve attached a pic of me sitting in the front seat. You can see where the seat cushion ends. There is some empty space there under the thigh. Also attaching pics of how the feet fit in the front and rear.

My Gypsy also could have had better under thigh support (but it is a 40 year old design and people were generally a little smaller then). Yet, I still drive it to Ooty and Coorg and back without much ado. I think it is about finding the optimum position. Thing is the stock OEM seats in the Gypsy are decently cushioned and pretty comfortable the way they are.

My Thar’s front seats also aren’t the greatest on under thigh support but by adjusting my seat back’s position I can handle it. Its not perfect though, for someone who is tall at 6.2. And frankly nor are the footwells in the Thar, comfortable enough for long legs and big feet. If one puts a dead pedal in the Thar a tall person simply cannot sit. In the front also, the transmission tunnel and the nacelle somehow protrude into the drivers footwell and it is a bit cramped for the left foot. I find that the 2023 new Thar actually seems to have better under thigh support than mine has. This is based on sitting in and driving Bibendum’s 2023 Thar 3 -4 days back. The seat cushions themselves in my 2021 Thar ans well ans Bibendums 2023 Thar, are firmer than the Gypsy as well as this Jimny.

The new 2023 Thar seats definitely feel better and it seems like they offer better under thigh support for a tall person. I will check this more thoroughly. And if it is indeed so, I will buy these new front seats and install them in my 2021 Thar.

Car shops have started to accumulate arsenal (accessories) for Jimny before it's launch.

Three big Furry Wolf brothers in the back of this new Jimny, even with the seats folded or completely removed, will definitely be uncomfortable. Even the 3 door Thar, despite its largeness and boxiness won’t be suitable.

It’s just possible that the upcoming 5 door thar with the second row of seats removed may work.

But as of now for your specifically outlined requirements for the three large furry brothers, the following options will be nice and comfortable.

1. Innova with second row removed and good cushioning all along the floor.
2. Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, again with second row removed and cushioning all along the floor.
3. Old Ford Endeavour
4. New Ford Endeavour
5. Old Honda CRV with second row removed
6. Scorpio N with second and third rows removed
7. Old Scorpio with jump seats and second row removed
8. Bolero with jump seats and second row removed
9. Old Captiva with second row removed
10. Fortuner with last row and second row removed.
11. XUV 500 with second and third rows out
12. XUV 700 with second and third rows out
13. MG Gloster with third row out
14. MG Hector with second and third rows out
15. Kia Carens with third row out
16. Kia Seltos with second row out
17. Kia Carnival with third row out
18. Hyundai Alcazar with second and third rows out
19. Hyundai Creta with second row out.
20. Tata Harrier with second and third rows out
21. Tata Safari with second and third rows out
22. Maruti Eeco with entire rear empty (still a tight squeeze)
23. Old Skoda Octavia Combi with rear seats folded flat
24. Old Mercedes RClass, or ML350 or the E Class Station wagon etc
25. Old Beemer X3,X5 etc

Last but not least, I have personally, many moons ago, in my bachelor days, transported my dogs then, one large Alsatian and one Weimaraner in comfort, with proper cushioned surfaces, plus some basic luggage and a few cooking things and the dogs food and water bowls plus food and water plus my man Friday attendant and myself as the driver, in my old white stock standard MG 410 Maruti Gypsy hard top with AC all the way from Pondicherry to Bangalore. This was around 20 odd years ago when I first moved here. Everyone was happy. The dogs actually loved it. They enjoyed sticking their furry faces between the seats into the front, from time to time, to get the cold blast from the AC on their whiskers.

The dear old Maruti Gypsy with it’s longer chassis and hard top or soft top with the rear bench seats thrown out and some nice thick rubber mats all along the floor and along the sides is one of the best possible vehicles for a man and his pets to wander about in comfort.

Like they say, there is a Gypsy in every one.

Here is an old pic from 2003-2004 of those two dear dogs and that old hard top Gypsy. And a more recent one from 2020, of my last hard top Gypsy and my present pe(s)t peering out of the rear side window.

The Gurkha too, with the rear seats removed can accommodate the big furrys comfortably, have seen a YouTube video where a couple with their Husky and Labrador travel very comfortably in their Gurkha.

I currently have a 2018 Endeavour 3.2 but my wife is a bit iffy about putting the dogs into that vehicle despite having a rexin sheet to cover the carpet and the leather seats. My Malinois can get a little chewy when he gets bored.

I have booked a Kia Carens 1.5 T-DGi Turbo Petrol with the DCT in the 6 Seat Configuration. Currently waiting for the dealer to let me know when I can take delivery.

Cheers!

I think with the talk of how to accommodate the wolf brothers in comfort we have beautifully hijacked this thread. (No one seems to be grumbling too much though, so I will only add one thing…)

The Maruti XL 6 is also an absolutely wonderful, relatively inexpensive, comfortable choice. Cavernous space, Immensely practical and very comfortable. A highly under rated vehicle.

Yes buddy as per this senior executive from Maruti, Fronx is coming in the last week of April and he also mentioned that Jimny will be launched two weeks after i.e. Mid of May.

So, hoping this schedule is not further delayed ! They have already made us wait a lot !
