4 Speed AT makes much more sense.
This is a bit concerning specially for those who are considering manual variants. I mean what is the purpose of using a 5 speed gearbox and tuning it so pathetically. In general more gears mean less strain on engine but here things are opposite. Engine will feel strained even at 90kmph forget about 100.
I am hoping for a properly tuned gearbox for Indian version of jimny as a lot of people here want an all rounder which can atleast cruise at 90-100kmph without much stress on the engine.

I do understand but highly unlikely that we will get any change in ratios. Jimny is already offered in international markets with much better higways and they are using this same gearbox with final drive ratio. On all youtube reviews, the MT is criticized for this short coming; still Suzuki has not done anything about it ; hard to think of a reason for Suzuki to do this now ( they skipped the 6 speed AT as well , but for other reasons )

My suggestion, book AT and later decide after driving the MT. MT is best for mountain residents where the 70-80km/hr is hardly breached. Anyone interested in doing highway runs should book AT and then shift the booking to MT after a long test drive.

The Narrow width and small footprint is perfect for those tight turns and hairpins up in the hills. The lightweight nature of the vehicle also means it wont put undue strain on the hand brake when parked on inclines. These dimensional traits are also very handy for crowded cities and makes for greater ease of parking.

4 Speed AT makes much more sense.
From your screenshort, the 5 speed MT has a speedometer dial upto 140km/hr where as the 4 speed AT as a speedometer dail upto 180km/hr.

Is the 5 speed MT screen grab that of the Japanese Jimny varriant with a 660cc engine and 4 speed AT that of 1.5L Japanese Jimny Sierra?

The 5 door sold in india even the 5 speed MT version has 180km/hr speedometer, as does the 3 door version sold else where in the world with a 1.5L engine.

re: Maruti Jimny 4-door @ Auto Expo 2023

A few questions for auto vs manual after reading a few writeups/ reviews.

Does the Jimny automatic have a crawl function since it uses torque converter.

"Top gear with the auto is a bit taller than the manual’s, so the fact it sits at a slightly lower rpm at highway speeds is one benefit of the auto"

Does it mean better fuel efficiency on highways?

" For off-road use, the auto variant comes into its own as its torque convertor gives a gearing advantage (and torque multiplication) for steep climbs, even if the manual’s crawl ratio is slightly lower."

Does it make automatic better in city traffic too?

Good catch! And I really hope that is the case. Some international reviews mention that MT is more drivable because of more gear ratios and even for highways recommend the MT.

Both videos are from the same YouTuber and same country. Not sure why this difference.

The below post also shows gear ratios of MT (shorter) and AT.

re: Maruti Jimny 4-door @ Auto Expo 2023

Was trying the online booking option on MSILs website but have been getting the following error:
Due to some error occurred, we could not process your booking at the moment. Sorry for the inconvenience caused. Please try again in sometime.

Anyone else facing similar issues?
Thank you.

Does it have anything to do for hard core off-roading (in 3 door Jimny)? Is this any reinforcement? I guess Fiat Punto Evo had such metallic plates behind 2nd row seats.
Hi Riju
You can find pics of the 3 door Jimny on sgcarmart.

There is a chequered plate behind the 2nd row, and also at the back portion of the second row of seats itself.

However it is not metal, but hard plastic which scratches easily. People like me who are obsessed would probably get a boot mat.

Best regards.

Replying to this thread since one of my posts is linked...

@aim120 Yes as you correctly guessed the 140Kph speedo is from the 660cc Turbo Jimny. The speedometer shot is not from the 1.5 MT Jimny. Difference of ~ 750RPM is too huge a difference for a difference of just 0.134 in total gearing between AT & MT.

The actual difference in RPM@100KpH between 1.5MT and 1.5AT Jimny would be far lesser at about ~100/200RPM at the most theoretically!

PS: Theoretically since the AT has viscous coupling and the TC needs to lock up without slip.

Edit:

re: Maruti Jimny 4-door @ Auto Expo 2023

It seems Maruti will be playing optimistically safe with Jimny pricing. Since there are only Zeta and Alpha variants at launch time so premium pricing is expected.
However, they may follow any of the two strategies:

1. Launch at an introductory low price and gradually increase the price. Later launch Sigma and Delta variants at lower price points (w.r.t. increased Zeta variant prices by then) to maintain sales volume.

2. Launch at a premium price then wait and watch.
2a. If sales numbers are good then don't bother to launch lower variants and focus on brand value and exclusivity.
2b. If sales are low due to premium (over optimistic) pricing, then launch no frills Sigma or low frills delta variant.

Due to Nexa badging, I feel they will follow path no 2..
