The Jimny comes with 5.5J Wheel Size. The recommended maximum width for the tyre for this rim is 215.

IMHO 215/75 R15 would be the ideal upsize and more than sufficient for 90% of us folks.

The size difference between thr 195/80 which is the stock size and 215/75 is just +1.5% which is well within the 2% difference that is generally accepted.

Last but not least 215/75 R15 is a popular size and a lot of variety is available in AT tyres for this size.

re: Maruti Jimny 4-door @ Auto Expo 2023

Is it 215/75 or 215/70? Shankar.Balan posted this 215/70 R15 size many times, along with photographs. Is it really 5.5 or 7j rim? Or users who installed 225 or 235 size tyres change the rims/ use other fitments?

What we see in mountains that the stock tyres or nearly bald tyres are doing good service for commuting and goods carriages in older Gypsies. If same legacy is carried over, we are good.

re: Maruti Jimny 4-door @ Auto Expo 2023

You guys are both right...

...225's are not available with a lot of brands. And with only a small increase in overall diameter from the stock tyres, 215's are just about right. Moreover, 215/75R15 tyres will be readily available as long as the Bolero maintains impressive sales figures.

However, personally, if I could afford the Jimny, I would take delivery of the vehicle and drive straight to the tyre shop for a set of 225's. I want that extra 1cm width over a 215 (for that tiny improvement in on-road stopping power).

Something else that bothers me is odometer error. Speedo error is easy to live with (just keep it down and the cameras will leave you alone), but even a small variation in distance travelled is kind of inappropriate

You know, in the Maruti Gypsy, the OEM recommended tyre always was F78-15. Nylon Cross Ply. If one wished to go to Radials, the recommended upgrade was 205/70/15. These 205’s were very comfortable to steer and gave good cushioning and grip. Sadly most of us Gypsy users couldn't find this size easily in the 1980’s, 1990’s, 2000’s and even 2010’s. Even now in the 2020’s one has to hunt a bit and ask around. So we generally tended to put 215/75/15. It worked.
However it is worth keeping in mind that any size above the recommended one, will definitely result in long term detrimental effects on the steering and suspension geometry.
For this reason alone, if I buy the Jimny, I would move only to the 215/70/15 which I saw in Dubai.

re: Maruti Jimny 4-door @ Auto Expo 2023

If I buy the Jimny as a daily driver, will it be as comfortable as a Brezza?

International reviews suggest Jimny has a bouncy ride on paved roads. The Indian one's spec sheet says it has the same suspension. Dont know of they have tuned it differently for the 5 door.

Also, what about the steering? I am reading not so good reviews, that it wanders, when on road, at high speeds.

Stock size 195/80/15 overall diameter is 693mm.
215/75/15 overall diameter is 794mm larger by 11mm.
215/70/15 overall diameter is 683mm smaller by 10mm.

Stock 195/80/15 sidewall is 155mm.
215/75/15 sidewall is 160mm.
215/70/15 sidewall is 150mm.

So there is no one correct size both have the same deviation, +1.5% and -1.5%. Both are about as right or as wrong.

For rim width and tyre width go here, tyre profile also matter in the mix. Personally I would not go wider than 215/75/15 on stock rims. The tyre I have in mind is Goodyear Wrangler Silentrac AT, which I have used previously and found good. Its available in this size.

Long wheelbase, so less bouncy ride than global 3 door for sure. But will it be comfortable as Brezza? Probably not.

It wont surely be as comfortable as brezza, in fact for speed above 100 km/h ride & handling has some serious limitations as per international 3 door reviewers but assuming maruti's understanding of Indian buyers expectations with this jimny, I can assuredly say they might have fine tuned this 3 link rigid axle suspension setup for urban usage too knowing 90% of buyers are going to pick this up just as life style vehicle with minimal to zero off-roading.
so as everyone over here says its moreover heart over mind decision, I suggest one should only buy this vehicle if one is aware of its shortcoming's & wiling to compromise on that. No matter what, you cannot expect brezza or sonet like comfort with jimny because of it's suspension & steering setup which in all probability will offer a boat like ride on highways.

Any idea what model is the stock tyre going to be? Is this size currently being used in any car on sale in India? I guess salability or exchange rates will depend on this.

Those coming from modern cars will find it different. It is not designed for high speed handling and therefore will not give very high levels of control (at high speeds). Similarly, when compared to sedans and hatchbacks or even an Innova or a Marazzo, comfort levels (especially at above average speeds) wont be that high.

The reasons are simple. It has a solid axle (heavier than the independent suspension on most cars) in the front, along with a recirculating ball steering system designed to cope with the amounts of articulation this axle is capable of going through. Add to this, a body mounted (with flexible rubber mounts) on a seperate chassis (a reason for that little extra body sway). The engine is also suited to this vehicles basic nature and capabilities (off the road).

However, this is one vehicle that will grow on you. If you are a relaxed driver you could live with a Jimny. If you have a lot of city driving, the black plastic fender flares and bumpers will be a godsend in bumper to bumper traffic. If you understand the pros and cons of this little truck and learn to like the dynamics it has to offer, you will slowly begin to love it.

But be sure to take a loooong test drive or two when it finally comes out. Better yet, go for a few test drives of other vehicles in the same category as well. You will be able to decide for yourself.

Any idea why the red color Jimny on Nexa website shows steel rims while all other colors shows alloys? Also the fog lamps are missing and the door openers are not body colored and the lights are not LED based.
Easter egg I guess!

The Sizzling Red color (Without the Black Roof) is only available in Zeta Variant, hence they are showing the Zeta Variant in the picture which comes without the Alloys, Body Colored Handles and the Foglamps. The Zeta also misses out on Headlamp washers, Cruise control and probably a few more items as well.

With 215/70 the ground clearance will also come down by .2 inches as compared to the 215/75. This is an important consideration for an offroad vehicle like the Jimny, particularly since the ramp breakover angle is already a little less than the 3 Door Jimny.

Thanks! However the brochure shows Sizzling Red color in Alpha variant with a "^" conditional sign leading to a Zeta only condition.
This also confirms that the "Base Model Jimny" pics and videos are from pre production as the door handles are body colored.

You are correct. The brochure is misleading in case of the Sizzling Red Color. However the website does show the correct Zeta variant for the Sizzling Red Color.
