Saw a white std 2000 in cochin a few days back, a family was traveling in it, and it seemed to be in decent shape, but no pix, since it was going in the opposite direction.

Today morning by chance happened to meet a close relative of moothootu at ranni. I enquired about the standard car .He was helpful enough to immediately call up some one belonging to the same family in thiruvannanthapuram .Sadly, the car has been sold someone from kollam bought the car for seventy thousand bucks .

The Standard 2000 with its hood chopped off was posted by me earlier. It is fitted with a Nissan Cabstar diesel engine. Now this is being scrapped off and is to be a donor car for the bashed up Standard 2000 featured below. The car had a rear independent suspension and the two rear strut bolts can be seen here. The wheel nuts are special-no doubt the car was special but for its failed engine.

This car below had hit a road divider and has had injuries on the front and its underbody. The accident it appears has happened long ago and the car was unattended. Its bodyline is original and the paint too is original. It has the original Standard petrol engine. With donor car spares from the above featured car, this one will become an original Standard 2000.The power window control switches on the door interiors can be seen.

The first time I heard about the standard 2000 was when my Uncle told me about one of his uncles having owned one at some point of time. And as is customary of every non-auto-enthusiast to add, he mentioned,"the mileage was horrible. But the car was great otherwise".

Guys. I love the looks of the Standard 2000. I can't believe that a car that looks like that rolled on Indian roads in the late 1980s, flanked by Ambis, Premiers and then more Ambis and Premiers. The Standard 2000 is definitely a car I'd like to own at some time in life. That fastback look, the long bonnet, wow. And I know, the engine and gearbox are horrid but I thank the heavens for Isuzu engine swaps !

Three things.
First, there is a Standard 2000 in Ashok Nagar in Chennai that doesn't seem to be running. The structure looked good to me the last time I saw it (more than a year and a half ago) and I think it's also adorned with skirts, etc. I don't remember the colour though. The door etc had some electric parts hanging out but I think the car is in retrievable condition.
Second, I have seen a yellow standard 2000 with black racing stripes. It's running and seems to be regularly used because I have seen it a few times. Any more information on it? Just curious .
Third, has anybody heard about this project in Chennai to shoehorn an imported Rover V8 block into a 2000? I heard about this around 6 years back but don't know if it finally materialized.

@fulltime4wd: I mostly see 2000s in white/cream/etc. Your blue one is a welcome change and it looks awesome. Congrats.

In the first quarter of 1992, I bought a 1986 Standard 2000 in Chennai and drove it to Alleppey. I don't remember the odometer reading, but it gave 9.25kpl with AC.

I distinctly remember the whale of a ride I had from Erode to Alleppey on a Sunday, 2 of us, with Ac, the 345km distance was covered in 5 hrs and 45 minutes. It was a red one.

This car got the original 2000cc petrol engine from the donor car fitted under its hood.
This is a 1998 cc Standard Vanguard engine from the early 1950's which powered the Standard Van (petrol) too.Unfortunately this engine was planted to do the duty for the luxurious Standard 2000 launched in 1985.The tappet cover is new, some changes have been made to the inlet manifold to accommodate the twin choke Weber Carburettor borrowed from the Rover 2000.The twin Weber Carb is also seen here. The engine simply failed this swanky car and the car used to feel strained while climbing gradients with the AC on.

Standard 2000 in Chennai

A couple of months ago, I was buying some parts for my Gypsy at 'Murugan auto parts' outlet on 100 ft road, Vadapalani. There, i got to see a Standard 2000 in good condition, the bonnet open, with engine oil being topped up. I went closer to have a better look, and surprise of surprises, it had a V8 engine ! Then I saw the logo on the bonnet as it was being closed, and it was having the Rover logo !!! I enquired with the owner, and he confirmed it...this was an imported Rover 2000, upon which the Standard 2000 was based. He had also owned one of the first S2000s to be sold in India, and then had decided to import the original. WOW . He had a lot of good things to say about the car, during the short conversation we had.

Then, he started the car and drove off...even now, I can remember the rumbling growl that engine let off, as he sped away. The sound of the exhaust was awesome. I guess he has fitted an FFE.

Unfortunately, i did not have a camera with me at that time .

I was going through my uncle's wedding album and saw these pictures of Standard 2000 used on the wedding day. The picture dates back to Jan. '96. The car has 'Rover' written on it. I don't remember the badging nor the genuineness of this car.

Well, after going through this thread, it made me go through my memory lanes where i remembered my neighbor having standard 2000 and Herald.
Always was trying to steal a ride or two in them and the uncle never saying no to my request. Parents scolding me for troubling the gentleman by asking for a ride almost every weekends. I had a great admiration for this car untill i literally fell in love with conty.
However, now i am just looking to add a good running standard 2000 in my list. went in search for it. As i have a fair idea of where i can find, it wasnt difficult for me.
Its a neat and good maintained, in running condition. Unfortunately the owner is out of country and will return back next month, so couldnt find about the asking price. will post more info later..
