Re: The story of the Standard 2000. 1985-1988

Standard 2000 used to have forward opening engine hood, this along with 118NE used to be objects of curiosity for us kids then.

However, used to hear lots of running board rusting complaints from owners then.

That was the Contessa Classic 2.0 DSZ, came much later, though it wasn't unrefined per se, the Petrol 1.8GL was a gem, also made it to Ambassadors which are actually quite pleasurable to drive (apart from the non existent chassis dynamics of the Ambassador)

Re: The story of the Standard 2000. 1985-1988

I am reminded of a story of this Car. A particular Car was having regular serious issue and was on unending visits to the Service Centre.
The situation got so worse that Service Centre stopped attending to it. Disgusted by their attitude, the Owner got it pushed over a Roundabout and affixed a placard "STRANDED".
The negative publicity generated was enough to burn the bottoms of manufacturer who got it taken to the Service Centre. Hope it had a Happy Ending.

I remember this car was gifted to our “Queen of Indian track and field" for her Asian games heroics, I guess somewhere in 1980’s. She and the car, was the talk of the town among the car enthusiasts during those days.

It took about 5 hours to reach Alleppey on a Sunday. With AC on it gave 9kpl in that drive.

I wish I had not dieselised it!
Memories!! @trrk is my maternal uncle and i am the other person in the car. I was 22.This car was not bad at all. Uncle was fast those days and i remember some crazy speeds back then.
Post dieselization, this car was never the same
Cheers

The beautiful and timeless, Ferrari Daytona inspired, Standard Rover 2000.
Here is one nice red original petrol example owned by an enthusiast. He is in the process of restoring it to its near original glory.
I encountered it on my way home in the pouring rain an hour ago and overcome by sheer excitement because I hadn't seen one of these icons being driven on the road since the mid 1990’s, I drew close and kept frantically waving at him from my car and he then very kindly stopped and let me take a pic. (We have a few car groups in common as members, we found.)

Quite awesome! The car could have the Barwani Motor Works, Indore links (Mr Manvendra Singh). I had clicked many images of a Ferrari inspired and beautifully crafted two door, flame red, Standard 2000, that was bought by a friend for a short while about 10 years ago. Work was done by the same Barwani Motor Works, Indore, by Mr Singh. I still have those images which I may have posted here. If not, I will soon. It also had an Indore, M.P. registration like this one.

Hi
This red one is a Bangalore car in OEM stock spec, including the original low powered Standard Motors (STAMPRO) petrol engine. The CKL registration series is from 1980’s Bangalore.

Sorry, I stand corrected. Madhya Pradesh used the "C" series since 1970's till the 80's with registrations like CI and CP. The state officials thought CI stood for Central India and CP for Central Pradesh.

Karnataka used many more combinations with "C".

A good "Revelations" Video by Jason Camissa of the SD1 just came out. In fact, it is his SD1 I believe.
