Market rejected it but I didn't Altroz R would definitely have been enough. Altroz iturbo had the same engine right? I felt the dark edition is a looker too. Lowered suspension tighter steering was what I was hoping for. Hope to see tata succeed too but a little more effort

Re: 120 BHP Tata Altroz Racer confirmed for launch. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 9.49 lakh

So if its basically the same engine and no other changes, than Tata has essentially launched a higher powered version at a premium pricing which in other words mean that if one wants more power in what was an under-powered car than one has to pay for extra features too which everyone may not want

I really feel that in Altroz's case, these higher powered versions should be available for all variants at premium of around 50k.

Isn't Altroz diesel already on sales since launch?

It is on sale, but with a 5 speed MT, the 1.5L turbo diesel in a reduced tune of to 90 PS/ 200 Nm.

Nexon tune is 115 PS/ 260Nm with a slicker 6 speed MT.

Isn't it same for almost all cars sold. Just for sun roof and ventilated seats, don't people pay a lakh or so ? Underpowered is used by almost everyone who might not have even sat in the car. That's the beauty of keyboard warriors.

There are 3 variants starting from 9.5L and pricing is really good for what it offers.
Tata and Nature can meet anyone's need but not our greed

Apart from this, will wait for the reviews to pour in. I don't see that this car would set the drive or sales on fire but should leave a smile for all those who felt this is an underpowered car.

And, that gear lever is something I cannot see everyday while driving. Why Tata ? Where did you throw all those beautiful joy sticks of Nexon and Altroz/Punch manuals?

The stance of the car still looks beautiful from all angles. Hope they change the gear lever handle and also bring back the conservative design of door handles.

Re: 120 BHP Tata Altroz Racer confirmed for launch. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 9.49 lakh

The Altroz has always been a looker but not so much with those racing strips, Tata needs to understand we’re not in 2010 anymore. I would’ve liked if the stripes were an optional extra and not standard across all variants. Also, the gear lever looks like from older Safaris.

Nevertheless, if Tata can come close if not better to what Hyundai is offering with nline in terms of performance, I would definitely consider this.

P.S: Is there a possibility of Tata launching this in a Dark Edition?

The initial drive impressions are very positive. They claim steering has improved feedback and the throttle response is crisp. But let's wait for what established reviewers (TeamBHP & Sirish) say.

Does Altroz too comes with 108 PCD wheels like tiago? If so, that is a sad news for those who wants to spice up the car's looks. Aftermarket 108 PCD wheel options are very less in our country.

The run-of-the-mill Altroz already had very competent handling dynamics handicapped by the weedy naturally aspirated engine. The engine now has enough power to overcome its lethargy. If TML has taken care of the fuel mapping, ensuring a smoother "tip-in/tip-out" and lesser flywheel effect, this will be a good car to drive hard. By the way, this TML three-pot sounds quite nice & sporty when revved hard, (both in the petrol Nexon and Tiago)! Hope that trait is maintained.

I thought the same too! But on closer inspection it proved to be otherwise.

Autocar India. They have a good team, particularly if Shapur or Hormazd evaluates it.

What is with this image of a driver-less car parked at a lame angle with straight pointing front wheels? Are we supposed to get excited about the skid marks on the curve? Really, Tata thinks we are in 1998 and they're launching the Indica.

How difficult would it have been to actually get the Altroz Racer to drift and take a pic of it?

Folks, why are we dissing a product in any manner even before it is being reviewed or experienced by us? OK, you don't like the look , branding material or color scheme of the car, it is your choice.
Let's avoid unnecessary bashing for the sake of it.

Re: 120 BHP Tata Altroz Racer confirmed for launch. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 9.49 lakh

I love the i20 and the i20 N-line. I have driven them both extensively and every time I see one of them on the road, my head turns.

If an Indian carmaker gives us a car which is as good or better than the foreign carmakers counterpart, I will always go for the Indian carmaker. Period. I have no colonial hangovers against Indian made things. Example, berating Tata and its cars over after sales service whereas Skoda is far worse. The Tata cars bashing gets too much at times. Its sad to read.

We all love cars with a taut chassis and suspension and an engine/transmission to match. The Ford Figo Diesel was such a gem in this matter. So was the Ikon.

Now, if Tata has done something special with the Altroz (engine specification numbers are similar to i20 N-line), then I would love to drive it. I tried getting a test drive here in Bhopal. People in this city are less professional that way. I can't wait to get back to good old Bombay and try this car out. Also, I cannot wait for the expert reviews. 16 June seems really far away.

Can Tata tune the suspension like Citroen did on the C3 turbo? Lets wait and see...
