are the following two statements similar to those myths which slowly but surely start getting accepted as the gospel truth like some others we have known on this forum ?

1. Mitsubishi has low resale value.
2. Mitsubishi is expensive to maintain.

Not that I am saying the above is inaccurate, but would help this forum if people making above claimc sould provide some sound basis for the same.

b.t.w. I voted for the Mitsu. But then, I have a bias against Honda. Never liked Hondas. Definitely overpriced and not VFM at all. No fog-lamps on a 13 lakh car is pathetic. Very refined and well-built though.

If I had to make the choice, I would definitely go for the Mitsu. Even if the re-sale value thing was true, not a concern, as buying a car for resale value is pretty lame according to me.

I dont know about the maintainence part.

As for the resale value, its comparitive. Brands like Honda/Toyota retain their value better than Mitsubishi, and hence those comments!

An example would be OHC/Lancer of same years. OHC would defenitly demand more, unless there is something wrong with the car.

The resale is not a myth. but is a probability at best!
can anyone tell me what the car is selling at in used car market?

I think very few can get this detail

maintainance shud be like other sedans. if u bang ur car offcourse it will be expensive. but then which car is not? civic parts would be much more expensive i think?

and as someone rightly said, why buy thinking of resale as prime creteria?
and when u sell one can always sell to mitsu and get loyality bonus also

Used Cedia for Sale in Pune

Advertised in today's Pune 'Times of India', Mar 06 Cedia Sport, 18,000km, Yellow, 1 owner. Expected Price Rs8.35 lac.
(This is through a non Mitsubishi dealer, I actually rang to dealer to get the above details).

This might be a good start to judging used car prices?

A lot has been said on the mileage front. Here are some figures:
Mileage for Cedia:
10.4 km/l City
11.2 km/l overall
14.6 km/l Highway

Mileage for Civic:
9.7 km/l City
10.7 km/l overall
14.4 km/l Highway

Torque: 175 Nm for Cedia @4250 rpm and 171 Nm for Civic @4500 rpm.. again not too much of a difference is there?

Weight difference is just 15 kgs with the Civic being heavier.

The interiors: Civic is much better (IMHO).
The exteriors: Civic again (IMHO)

(Note: Aesthetics are always individualistic)

Cedia has a 1999 cc engine generating 115 bhp. Civic a 1799 cc engine generating 132 bhp.

Almost all acceleration figures in favor of Civic. (except for roll on from 30-70 in third gear where it loses out by 0.13 seconds).

Civic is bigger in most dimensions.

Civic's biggest negative is its high cost. It is said to be overpriced. Name one car in India which is not? Is not Octavia overpriced? Is not the Corolla overpriced? If they are not then how is the Civic overpriced? (it is 60k more OTR Pune).

Take your pick. I would go with Civic.

Have seen ad ad for a 2004 Esteem . Asking price was 3.75L. Ridiculous. How much he gets eventually is the question

Resale value Argument doesnt make sense to me

I have seen this resale value point being made against Cedia, someone talked about Vespa vs. Bajaj etc. Well in case of Vespa and Bajaj, they were both similarly priced in fact Vespa was more expensive plus didnt have resale value; a double whammy.

In case of Cedia, it is far cheaper than Civic.

Now lets take Cedia that we buy at 9 lakhs and we assume that after 3 years it depreciates by 50%

and we take Civic that we buy at 13 lakhs and we assume that after 3 years it depreciates by 30%

Net Usage Cost of a car = Purchase Price - Resale Value

For Cedia = 9 - 50% of 9 lakhs = 4.5 lakhs
For Civic = 13 - 30% of 13 lakhs = 3.9 lakhs

A difference of a mere 60K Rs. in favour Civic and I think 30% for Civic could be an overkill. In addition, there could be differences in maintenance which could be Rs. 20,000.

For such a car segment I dont think I wouldnt change my purchase decision for Rs. 60,000-80,000.

Unless of course there is something fundamentally wrong with my calculation.

So the decision between Civic/Cedia should strictly be on the basis of preference over looks/performance/combination thereof, cost wise they compare well.

Civic is a better car anyways compared to the Mitsubishi. We could have had a comparison between, Civic and Altis.

To everyone in this thread vouching for the civic hands down, and especially to those who have not driven the cedia I would request them to drive it (or drive both cars). Then ask yourself the same question “which is the better car or who is the king”. I can guaranty that this time your answer will not be a direct thumbs up for civic. From that point of time (from the point of time u drove the cedia) u would hate to let the cedia down. She would have grown on u to the extent that u will say that cedia is as good as civic.
Cedia is a real addictive machine.
