Some of my friends, argue that the santro xing is a much faster car and can do 160+ and even 170! (kmph)

but doesn't it come with the same 1086cc 63PS!! (61.xx bhp) engine.

And further one of them (who owns a Zip Plus 1.1) states that xing is much better than his car (we r talking about engine here)

I can't really imagine Santro xing or not, doing 170kmph.

I'd say either Hyundai did something to the speedo or that particular xing we are talking about has a defective speedo!!

Give me some backing guys!!

no chance!!!!
majority of my friends have santro zip 1.1 or the new zing, the max they did was 160 on a highway
majority of them say 150 is a highest speed, that too the car vibrates like hell and u cant maintain the speed for more than 30secs!!
i myself have been in santro's hitting 130 easily, but not more than that

my experience with a normal (company car) non 1.1 santro
at the max 90! after that it vibrates like hell

and remeber i am one of the pro hyundai guys here!

thats impossible
the santro xing and zip plus share the same engine uless ure friend has modified the engine or changed the tyres
the xing is heavier by 60 kgs and therefore should be a bit slower in comparision.
well atleast thats my theory.
maybe because the xing is new and looked after properly while the zip plus is old and as the car gets older the power deteriorates due to gumming in the injectors - am i right guys -
anyways
if they talk too much tell them that a palio 1.2 can do 180 + ............
ive seen it happen. my diesel siena too did 180 on the expressway
any way
cheers

Well i am gonna go the other way and say i think it IS possible. (that your friends saw 170km/h on the speedo).

Heres what makes me think its possible for the speedo to read 170-
i. speedo error
ii. do they have aftermarket tires which further increase speedo error?
iii. it was a downhill stretch (even if not noticable..it still helps)
iv. as ajmat said...a tailwind would definitely help as well

ps - does the xing have diff gear ratios than the zip?

170 is possible on a downward slope.

probably it was a 90 degree incline... i can't see how a Santro can touch 170...almost impossible..
