I dont know. But from the quality of the pics, it does look like some good photo shoot, so, deff should be for some automobile mag or may be from some promotional shoot.

In all probability, the hard-top version we see is the civilian version. Looks fantastic man! I think our 4x4 section is up for some pretty hard-core action.

Hope there is some competition for the Mahindra Axe in the 4 wheel drive market.

As far as I know
Jeep
gypsy
....
Is there anything else?

For civilian customers, its better if Mahindra conducts a survey and collects feedback before going to production.

The hard top along with the doors are removable in a few minutes. They are not separate versions as such and by no means does that imply that it's the civilian version.

By the way, the pics are from Overdrive.

It's AXED On a lighter note, if not defense, why not for civilian operations?

Re: Mahindra "AXE" Thread

I too came to know that the AXE has failed to clear trials.
Hopefully Mahindra would now be launching this in the civilian market at an extremely high sticker price to sell to some rich kids.

Re: Mahindra "AXE" Thread

Don't think they have any plans for this vehicle now. Better to launch some funky vehicles from Ssyangyong stable.

Re: Mahindra "AXE" Thread

Hope its OK if I bump this thread, but here is an awesome video/review of this vehicle (in Hindi) I randomly came across while youtubing:

From what I can gather, it has an automatic transmission, 170 HP engine from SsangYong that most probably means it has the same Mercedes-Benz sourced engine as in the Rexton in a different state of tune than the 162 HP RX5 and the 184 HP RX7. It has a whopping 300mm ground clearance too.

Would be lovely to see this take a civilian friendly form (with hard top and essential goodies inside). Knowing the Indian market and the brand equity M&M has of producing ultra butch SUVs and MUVs, this would be the perfect halo vehicle for them.

Mahindra "AXE" Thread-18155867_1423766287688375_5114346651986526831_o.jpg
  • its as tall as auto ...
  • independent suspension ...
  • practically no rear overhang...
  • similar silver rims as AXE
