Expecting a better final finish. Interesting to know as which engine is sitting inside.
Must be the 2.2L engine which they have tuned to 180bhp in the US

What must be the FE?

Mahindra Axe, interesting but still looks very crude. Let's see if this is released for the civilian market too.

Well I know for a fact that Mahindra has a 140-150bhp version of the engine ready since they recently approached my source to build them a monster truck for showing off at the "Mahindra Raid" (or whatever they are called) events.

What's that red thing inside (between the front 2 seats)? looks like an ice box !!!

Also I couldn't spot the clutch - I doubt this would be an automatic, would it?

That's quite a scoop!
How come no camouflaging was deemed necessary by Mahindra?

I like the three wiper set-up but the wipers look crude.
Great to see independent suspension on front. Wonder what's the set-up at the rear.

This looks like a major improvement over the existing Indian Army jeeps.

great pictures. the grill looks distinctively scorpio. the sheer size of the car reads in bold DONT MESS. i hope they remove a civilian model to answer to the H2 and H3. INDIA has finally got its very own HUMVEE.

Awesome snaps!!
This is the Mahindra Axe and was developed indegenously in 36 months. Its presently undergoing army user trials in various terrains and weather condictions. The Axe was developed to fulfill the army's Light Specialist Vehicle requirement. The IA is looking for a rugged platform which can be used for various purposes a'la Humvee.
Guess wot, Bharat Earth Movers Ltd is trying to tie up with GM and pitch the Humvee. Rumour has it that the Land Rover Defender is also in the fray.

Hmmm... But then the scoop is probably in the public sighting of this vehicle. Otherwise the Mahindra Axe details with a pic of one filled with Army jawans had been there on the Bharat Rakshak site for quite a while now (although I am not able to locate it now). You can also pick up some details here and here although with a lot of factual errors.

Most interesting thing is that although M&M is refusing to open its lips (understandable, its a defence project) those in know said that M&M has used two set of engines. One has 300HP and the other has some 400HP on the tap!!!

Photo Source: :: Bharat-Rakshak.com - The Consortium of Indian Military and Defence Websites :: (was stored on my machine for a while)

EDIT: M&M has acknowledged that they do intend to homologate the vehicle and then in due course would also launch a civilian version of it.

Nope, it is supposedly sporting a 300HP and a 400HP engine. Two variants that army is testing. M&M has warned it to be a fuel guzzler though. It will probably return 4-5 kmpl of diesel.
