2023 Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Facelift : A Close Look

The 2023 Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Facelift has been launched in India at a price of between Rs. Rs. 5.69 - 8.47 lakhs (ex-Delhi).

Since the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios 1.0L Turbo-petrol has already been reviewed by Team-BHP, this report will only focus on changes made to the 2023 facelift. To read the full official review, click here. Also, check out the report on the 2020 Aura here.

Introduction

The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios was launched back in August 2019. Back then, it was positioned above the Santro and regular Grand i10 in the company's hatchback line-up. It looked good and the interiors were among the best in its segment in terms of design and quality. Hyundai gave the car some muscle by introducing a turbo-petrol engine in the car in February 2020. This unit made the Grand i10 Nios quite a hot hatch. In terms of sales too, the Grand i10 Nios has very successful and regularly features in the monthly list of twenty best-selling cars in India.

In November 2019, Hyundai discontinued the regular Grand i10 and in May 2022, the Santro was taken off the market as well. This made the Grand i10 Nios Hyundai's least expensive hatchback in the country. Now, Hyundai has launched an updated version of the B1 segment hatchback. Let's have a look at some of the prominent changes made to the car.

First up, there is no turbo-petrol engine available any more. This is a big disappointment for enthusiasts looking for a fun-to-drive little hatchback. Engine options now include the same 1.2L Kappa naturally aspirated petrol motor with 5-speed MT & AMT options and a 1.2L Kappa petrol + CNG with a 5-speed MT. What is noteworthy is that these engines are RDE compliant. RDE emission norms are set to be introduced in April 2023. These require a vehicle to emit less than a certain amount of carbon dioxide in realistic driving situations.

Hyundai has given the Grand i10 Nios some cosmetic changes to the exterior and some additional features. It has also introduced some more safety features. The Grand i10 Nios is available in 6 single-tone colour options: Polar White, Titan Grey, Typhoon Silver, Spark Green (a new addition), Teal Blue and Fiery Red. There are also two dual-tone options: Spark Green with a Phantom Black roof and Polar White with a Phantom Black roof.

Inside, the cabin design remains unchanged. However, there is a new instrument cluster, the seats get new upholstery and the front footwells get ambient lighting

Coming to features, the Grand i10 Nios is offered with new features such as cruise control, LED tail lamps, automatic headlamps with escort function, rear A/C vents, 8-inch touchscreen head-unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility and navigation through smartphone, voice recognition, wireless smartphone charging (first in segment) and fast USB charger (Type-C) among others.

The car gets over 30 safety features including 4 airbags as standard (first-in-segment) and 6 airbags (in the top variant), emergency stop signal (first in segment), tyre pressure monitoring system (first in segment), hill-start assist control (HAC), electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, parking assist with rear parking sensors and rear camera, ISOFIX child seat anchors and more.

The Nios is offered in four variants: Era, Magna, Sportz and Asta. These are priced between Rs. 5.69 - 8.47 lakhs. With these prices, Hyundai has managed to undercut the Maruti Suzuki Swift, which is its main rival in the segment.

Hyundai is offering a 3 years / 1,00,000 km warranty package. Extended warranty for up to 7 years can be purchased additionally. We strongly recommend this extension if your usage is high. Hyundai is further offering 3 Years Road Side Assistance with the Nios. You can also get a Shield of Trust repair running package for up to 5 years and a Shield of Trust Super maintenance package for up to 5 years.

2023 Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Facelift Exterior Review

Front end features a new bumper with a large air dam and redesigned LED DRLs:

At the rear, is a pair of new tail lamp clusters and a reflective strip on the hatch. Rear bumper gets 2 parking sensors:

No changes on the sides of the car except for a set of restyled alloy wheels:

The Grand i10 Nios measures 3,815 mm x 1,680 mm x 1,520 mm (L x W x H) and has a wheelbase of 2,450 mm. This makes it 10 mm longer than the outgoing model:

Halogen projector headlamps get automatic and escort functions:

Redesigned bumper gets a large air dam with a glossy black honeycomb mesh grille. Fog lamps have been deleted and restyled LED DRLs take their place:

DRLs are bright and prominent:

Door handles are finished in chrome. The front right unit gets a request sensor:

Redesigned 15-inch dual-tone diamond cut alloy wheels look funky. 175/60 section MRF ZVTS tyres are retained:

Tail lamp clusters get reworked elements. They feature LED pilot lamps and halogen stop and reversing lamps and turn indicators:

Hatch gets a reflective strip running between the tail lamp clusters. Notice how it merges with the pilot lamps on either side:

Rear camera is placed in the middle, just below the reflective strip and above the "H" badge:

Refined 1.2L, 4-cylinder Kappa petrol engine is retained. It produces 82 BHP (@ 6,000 rpm) and 114 Nm max torque (@ 4,000 rpm), which is identical to the outgoing car. However, now it is RDE compliant, which means it will emit less than a certain amount of carbon dioxide in realistic driving conditions:

No insulation under the bonnet:

Read more on how this engine drives here.

2023 Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Facelift Interior Review

Dashboard design remains unchanged. Cars with a single-tone body colour get a black and grey dual-tone interior theme. There are silver inserts at various places. Those with dual-tone body colours get either black interiors with red inserts or black interiors with green inserts:

Leather-wrapped steering wheel is carried over from the outgoing car. The only changes made are to the switches on the two spokes:

The Grand i10 Nios is now equipped with cruise control. Switches for the same are located on the right spoke. The switches for browsing through the functions of the MID are also placed here. On the left spoke, the button for disconnecting a call has been replaced by a customisable one:

The Grand i10 Nios now gets automatic headlamps. The light stalk has been altered accordingly:

Engine start/stop button has a brushed silver ring around it:

Reworked instrument cluster consists of an analogue tachometer on the left & speedometer on the right, along with analogue temperature & fuel gauges and a 3.5" MID in between:

The MID shows average and instant fuel consumption, distance-to-empty counter, digital speedometer & outside temperature reading. The trip meter shows the distance travelled, average consumption and time taken. Additionally, it will double up as a parking sensor display as soon as the reverse gear is engaged and when cruise control is engaged, it is displayed at the top. The MID also shows a summary of the drive when you switch the car off:

Tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) is another first-in-segment feature:

Gearshift suggesting tool has been provided:

Switch to turn off the traction control is located next to the headlight leveller and below the right-side A/C vent:

Design of the seats is unchanged. But the semi-fibre grey upholstery is new. With this light colour, the seats can get soiled easily:

"NIOS" branding is embossed on the backrest:

A closer look at the new upholstery...

...and the contrast black piping and stitching:

Pedals are well spaced out, but the footwell is not very wide. Those with wide feet will find their left shoe getting stuck between the clutch pedal and the centre console. The dead pedal is useless:

2 USB ports (Type-C and Type-A) and a 12V power outlet are located below the climate control system on the centre fascia. The Type-C USB port (a first-in-segment) can only be used for charging, while the Type-A port can be used to connect your smartphone to the infotainment system as well as for charging purposes. 12V power outlet gets a flip-up plastic cover:

Hyundai has provided a plug-in USB port that can be slotted into the 12V charging socket. It comes with a plastic cover:

Wireless smartphone charging pad is located at the base of the centre fascia. This is a first-in-segment feature:

5-speed gear knob gets a glossy black top with a silver border. Gear lever has a leather boot:

Asta variant gets a cooling vent in the glovebox:

Front footwells get cool blue illumination:

4 airbags (dual front + side) are standard on all variants of the Grand i10 Nios. This is a first-in-segment safety feature. The top Asta variant gets curtain airbags as well:

Rear seat with the new upholstery. No centre armrest or 60:40 split folding backrest here:

Only the top Asta variant gets adjustable rear headrests:

Rear bench gets ISOFIX child seat anchors on both sides:

Wow, segment firsts features
  • 4 airbags on all models and 6 on Asta
  • Wireless Charger
  • TPMS

I think it will give Swift, a run for the money.
Hopefully Maruti Suzuki will wake up and start giving more features in Swift.

Great Post. Below looks like a harmless typo - probably meant "The only changes (instead of switches) made are to the switches on the two spoke."

Re: 2023 Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Facelift : A Close Look

My thoughts are that Hyundai may pull the plug on the i20 since they have upgraded the Grand I10 significantly on the Safety features front. It doesnt make sense to have a premium hatch which isnt exactly a firecracker in terms of sales. I just have a tiny tinge of regret going in for the Tiago since this version looks a more complete car. in many aspects. No doubt the Tiago would prove to be robust, but wont match the finesse of the Hyundai.

On the Contrary, I thought Hyundai would pull the plug on Nios, given that they have already removed the turbo petrol at a time when other brands have started offering them in the segment and i20 will continue to sell as it’s considered the most premium offering in the segment with a variety of different gearboxes and specifications and also has the N variants.

Re: 2023 Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Facelift : A Close Look

I am a satisfied user of Grand i10 2017 Asta 1.2P and I feel that the facelift Nios makes for a good value proposition.
Given the discount which Hyundai runs on the Nios most of the year, (expecting on this car soon), I feel that this is a much more VFM product than a Swift.

Arguments aside, what this facelift brings to the table is interior aesthetics. The 2 sore points of the interior is fixed.

And thankfully the 2023 facelift now looks like a finished product from the inside

As much as I love my 2017 Grand i10, I like the new one even better.

Subhasish

Overall complete package in 2023 Nios -facelift and it is value for money compared to swift.

If they added the below features then it is a complete package and it will cannibalize the i20 sales.
  1. Adjustable front seat headrest
  2. Automatic IRVM
  3. Front seat driver armrest
  4. Rear seat centre armrest
  5. 60:40 rear seat split

I20 Offers VSM like ESC and HAC offers only at Asta (DCT only) and Asta(0) Variant only but in Nios offered from Magna (AMT), Sports, and Asta Variants. Nios offered TPMS as well from Magna Variants.
Hyundai done a stunning decision to offer 4 airbags as standard.

I believe Nios sales will increase for sure. if Hyundai thinks to improve the i20 sales they have to introduce the i20 facelift soon. until then tough time for i20 sales.

1.0 turbo discontinuation from the Nios is the biggest disappointment but I believe it will be offered in the upcoming Casper (Mini SUV) but I am not sure.

This car is E20 Petrol compliant in addition to RDE2

https://auto.hindustantimes.com/auto...797957652.html

In fact may be the first Indian car produced with E20 engine.

Congratulations on your new car!! Did you get any discount on your purchase?

Dealer in my city is telling me there is no discount, however when I check online on acko drive they are offering some discounts. Though their delivery time is a little longer and also they don't offer service in my city.

I am confused how is it that dealers can't offer discount but online platforms can.
