Audi Q3 Sportback launched at Rs 51.43 lakh

Audi has released a teaser of its upcoming crossover, the Q3 Sportback, for the Indian market. It is expected to be launched later this month.

The Q3 Sportback is a coupe SUV based on the standard Q3, which is currently offered in India. It features a more stylish exterior thanks to a dramatic coupe-like roofline. The teaser image reveals the car’s rear fascia with its wraparound LED tail lights and a black Audi logo.

The Sportback version also shares its interior with the standard Q3. It comes with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It is also expected to get a panoramic sunroof, power-adjustable front seats with lumbar support, a 3-spoke steering wheel with paddle shifters and heated ORVMs.

The Q3 Sportback could be offered with the same 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine as the regular model. This unit produces 187 BHP and 320 Nm and is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission as well as Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system.

Now this is interesting. The regular Q3 was just another forgettable crossover that didn't stand out from the GLA or X1 but this might have some potential.

Looks much better than the regular Q3. Now that BMW have M-sport trims across their range including the new X1, I think Audi is catching up. Knowing they don't have 2.0 and 3.0 TDI engines, instead of upgrading the looks they should bring in a FE friendly hybrid technology to make it more sustainable. I doubt if this will be a successful strategy for the Q3, though the engine continues to be detuned to prioritise FE.

I just wish that Audi India plonks the powerful 45 TFSI / 245 hp engine tune in this Sportback edition, to really differentiate it from its regular Q3 sibling. Else, with the minimal aesthetic design changes (coupe like stance + 4-ringer badges splashed here & there + blacked out front grille et al), the Q3 Sportback may not sell enough to warrant a slightly higher/ premium pricing. And with its current bad pricing, the Q3 is not helping its cause anyway.

Having a powerful engine would also make it a very strong proposition against the upcoming, underpowered BMW X1 and may possibly give that solid edge to Audi India to bring back some of its entry-SUV customer base, which is a lot!

With BMW making its X1 ugly and Mercs subtle approach for GLA / GLC this can be a game changer for Audi. This segment lacks good/ sporty looking cars and Audi can repeat what it did when Q3 was first launched.

Give this car what segment has ignored - a punchy powertrain (X1 has 130 HP engine and GLA has an engine which is shared with Duster) and it will capture large chunk of the segment.

Audi Q3 Sportback bookings open in India

Audi India has started accepting bookings for the upcoming Q3 Sportback. Customers can place their orders by paying a token amount of Rs 2 lakh.

The Q3 Sportback is the coupe version of the standard Q3. In India, the SUV comes equipped with the S-Line exterior package, 18-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, LED headlamps and a gesture-controlled tailgate.

Q3 owners will find the interior of the Sportback quite familiar. It features a 3-spoke steering wheel with a 10.1-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment head-unit paired with a 10-speaker audio system. The SUV is also equipped with features such as a 2-zone automatic climate, wireless charging, electrically adjustable front seats with 4-way lumbar support and ambient lighting, among others.

Powering the Q3 Sportback is a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that makes 187 BHP and 320 Nm. The engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and the Quattro all-wheel drive system.

The Q3 Sportback is available in five colour options: Turbo Blue, Glacier White, Chronos Grey, Mythos Black and Navarra Blue. Customers can choose from two interior colour schemes: Okapi Brown and Pearl Beige.

It sure looks great ! I saw a youtube video by one of the popular automotive you tubers of Malaysia YS Khong on the driving, handling etc. of Q3 sportsback and he sure was pleased after a twisting and turning hill drive on Genting Highland.

With BMW going lame with X1 U11 and now even stopping 30d engines due to CAFE norms, Audi India can take the fight to become number 1 in luxury segment.

By bringing in these different cars with equally potent engine.

They can repeat success story of 2013.

If I had to pick a car in entry level luxury segment it be Audi Q3 Sportback over underpowered X1 and Renault GLA.

Keyless entry and auto dimming mirrors on both sides. Both BMW and Mercedes have cut costs in these 2 departments lately so it is good move by Audi to be more competitive. Wonder which one of the germans will start offering Ventilated/Cooled seats package available internationally in their entry-mid Indians models first.

Very refreshing and much needed move. I hope they make the launch price closer to late 30s, I know it will hit Tiguan but Tiguan will be a whole different size/segment. Either way money goes to VAG only. Audi needs to come up with strong product lineup and attractive pricing in 2023 to counter the overinflated prices and segments by other two germans.

Lately, I have stopped searching Audi on even used car platforms. Such products with the confident mod potential existing in our country can change the game for enthusiasts.
