hey guys...
We all know MUL is planning to start it's diesel engine plant in 2005/06 and thanks to Fiat will be able to provide the JTD or Multi-Jet Diesel engines in it's car models.
I don't think Fiat should give Maurti this hi-tech engine. There are many reasons for this:

1. Fiat is not having a good time in India on the sales charts. The JTD engine fitted on their palio or panda range of cars could reverse fiat's fortunes fast in the indian market. WE all know indians are suckers for FE and fiat's Multi-Jet Diesel delivers performance+FE in dollops.

2. Fiat plans to bring in the palio JTD after the MUL plant is operational so they save on costs (source: Autocar) this makes good business sense no doubt and will help them price the car cheaper but the average indian will feel that JTd is a Maruti invention cuz it was MUl car's that came in first. Shouldn't Fiat stake their claim on the JTD first? After all it's their invention and they have a patent on it!

3. Fiat as a brand name is in shambles right now. If Fiat launches this hi tech engine then they may manage to get the average indian to look at their company with a new found respect and admiration.
Personally i have no problems with sharing of engines or componants. but when u have invented and patented a product it sholuld come into the market on ur name and not on ur partners name.
What do u say guys?
