Hmmm...

So basically *0.01% of CRVs sold in 2003 have caught fire. (ie 22 CRVs).
Could very well be all the fault of just one technician!!

The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration investigated the situation and concluded on July 1 that the cases were the fault of dealerships or others who improperly installed oil filters, the newspaper said.

According to the report, NHTSA and American Honda Motor Co. agreed that oil from the filters most likely leaked onto the vehicles' hot exhaust systems, quickly igniting.

"We consulted with Honda. Honda concluded it was a technician's error, and they have taken steps to make sure service technicians who work on this vehicle understand that they need to be particularly diligent when they replace the oil filter," NHTSA spokesman Rae Tyson was quoted as saying

Human error, as i though. No Honda engine is gonna blow up without any reason.

I am really concerned with this point

Hey Rameshk,

That is probably due to something small like the placement of the oil-lines being different. Think about it, if the dripping oil doesnt fall on the hot exhaust piping it wont cause a fire, and an oil pipe being placed differently by even an inch in the earlier models might have caused the dripping oil to miss the exhaust piping completely, hence avioding the fire.

I'm sure Honda will fix this problem and get back to making awesome machines...

If Oil drips.. it can also be seen at the place where the car is parked. If the driver notes this.... fire may be saved....

.. earlier people said the same about the Matiz... as a few had burnt out. But don't hear anything now... Maybe all the defective pieces have already burnt out...lol
