That's interesting to know that the average mileage difference is only 3-4 kms on highways, which makes the non-hybrid a sensible choice for those having very low occasional highway runs. Of course, that hybrid should widen the gap in the city mileage test. Our 2021 City CVT is giving an average 12-13 kmpl in the city and 17-18 kmpl on highways.

Re: 2023 Honda City Facelift : A Close Look

Can you please recommend good Honda dealer at Pune? I am almost finalizing new Honda City based on articles posted at TeamBhp.

Only point on which I have to finalize i.e Trim should it be Petrol or Hybrid?

I own 2010 i20 Asta petrol, she still do best but now age is catching up.I believe Honda City 2023 will be the perfect replacement / up-gradation.

Re: 2023 Honda City Facelift : A Close Look

Had a day off and lack of chores made me have a look at new Verna, the Honda showroom happens to be a little ahead so checked New City as well. Nothing new to add on what has already been said about these cars, so I will close my observations as both have distinct character and will have its own set of suitors.

Now the reason for the post, while both the showroom folks attended fairly well what was interesting is in Honda showroom a gentleman from Honda India was around. And post my interaction and test ride with the sales person, he engaged in a casual discussion which turned a little detailed on Honda's ADAS offering. His words, paraphrased -
  • Radar+Camera based ADAS has been around for a while
  • Camera based ADAS is an improvement of sorts on the traditional setup
  • Honda's camera based ADAS is tuned for Indian conditions, and while there are limitations it is expected to work seamlessly.
  • Has three point action - Warning -> Nudge -> Act
  • If at any stage human input is detected the system withdraws and lets the human control supersede.

Now the interesting part, while I have experienced ADAS enabled vehicles including the City, the ADAS features were barely noticed/ seen in action by me in my general driving course. In here he offered to demonstrate the ADAS in action, and had another ride with him in the driving seat. Except for Collision Mitigation thing, which is not advised by Honda or common sense to test in open roads I had first hand experience for all the remaining ADAS features City offers.
  • Slow speed follow
  • Lane assist
  • Blind spot monitor
  • Lead vehicle departure
  • Driver inattentive/ no continious steering feedback
  • Left Lane watch (Not exactly ADAS, but nice to have)

For all the above, ADAS functions in three steps Warn->Nudge->Act.
  • Slow speed follow:
    • Works as low as 22Kmph for ICE version and upto 0Kmph in HEV
    • If the leading vehicle moves away, CITY maintains/attains the preset speed
    • Can be controlled easily through dedicated steering buttons
    • Visual representations in driver display is neat
  • Lane assist
    • Is activated only post 72kmph
    • Neat visual in dashboard
    • One can feel the steering corrections
    • Does not work in unmarked, single lane highways with incoming traffic
    • Prolong hands off the steering triggers notifications
  • Blind spot monitor
    • Comes as blinkers/ notifications when vehicle/anything gets too close to blind spots.
    • Missed to notice while driving and when on passenger seat, however my wife noticed blinking icons from the back seat. (Dont ask how, I didnt either)
  • Lead vehicle departure
    • This is fairly easy to demonstrate, stay back at traffic signal and beep comes the notification.
    • Nifty but you may never need, fellow motorists honks are easily audible within the not so quiet cabin.
    • There is NO further action apart from notification in this case.
  • Driver inattentive/ no continious steering feedback
    • Prolong (Not minutes, lesser) hands off the steering triggers notifications
    • Did not get to see what happens if no input is made, he course corrected post notification.
  • Left Lane watch (Not exactly ADAS, but nice to have)
    • Clean view of left lane, upon engaging Left indicator

I am real bad with names, but nonetheless my gratitude to the gentleman. It was a pleasantly good discussion.

I did a test drive of the ICE model today. Slow speed follow cuts off when the speed of the car goes below 30 kmph, not 22 kmph.

I took the Petrol for test ride, ambient noise seemed nothing out of the ordinary.

Re: 2023 Honda City Facelift : A Close Look

I booked the pre facelift city back in October 2022. There was a delay in production and finally Honda has delivered the facelift hybrid. Unfortunately the car couldn’t be registered yet because it hasn’t got the STA approval. They contacted me to come and take a look at the car. After 6 months of waiting I was pretty excited to see the car. Upon noticing the car had a small dent below the fuel filler cap. On enquiry they were unaware of how it happened. What should I do now? Should I let them fix it ? Or should I reject delivery. The car is still unregistered. I honestly don’t have the idea of taking delivery of a car that has been fixed even before handing over. This is been booked at Sundaram Honda. One of the oldest dealerships for Honda and this is not what I was expecting. If they fix it will the paint and body finish be as good as factory?

That ding is on the bodyline and requires professional handling. In my opinion you should contact any paintless dent repair specialist and they can fix that under 20 minutes. I had one on my car, probably caused by a flying stone and the repair was 99% normal. It avoids the hassle of having a paint mismatch. The dealership can definitely fix it but preserving the original paint is a good idea. Also, it's not just the mismatch but the quality of the repaint matters too. It shouldn't start peeling off or get discoloured after a couple of years.

These are personal choices. Having said so, if it were me, I would not take the delivery and will ask dealership for a new allocation. If you do so, have the VIN of this car noted so that dealership don't deliver the same car post tinkering. When I took delivery of my car it had some deep stains which dealership has removed infront of me using some cleaning liquid. That was okay for me, but not a dent like this.

Re: 2023 Honda City Facelift : A Close Look

After quite a bit of argument which was absolutely unnecessary Honda agreed to change the car. The general manager agreed that this was also the same car that was used for the launch of the hybrid and was used as display at the showroom. I myself was there to see the car. There were about 20 people or more to sit inside the car. When I was asking for a compensation they agreed for a mere 15000. I said I did not pay a rupee less than others and I demanded a brand new car. Now the only thing is I’ll have to wait for another month. Which worried me is this was very much unexpected from a manufacturer like Honda.

Re: 2023 Honda City Facelift : A Close Look

If they were giving you a showroom car, they should have been transparent about it and given you the choice to go ahead or reject the same. The fact that they are disclosing this only now once you have spotted the dent is concerning and ethically wrong. If you had not spotted the dent, they would have got away completely giving you a 'not so' new car. If I was in your place, I would definitely not trust this dealership for further interactions. Mind you, I am not saying that the car used in showroom should not be sold or is bad, but the fact that it was a showroom car should have been disclosed and the decision to take it or not should be the buyer's.

I had a good experience with Crystal Honda (Bavdhan) off the BLR Highway. They also have a branch in Viman Nagar if I am not mistaken.

Or can we assume these aspects remain unchanged from the pre-facelift version?

1. I am upgrading from the 4th Gen and honestly, the difference in driving characteristics has been neglible in the new facelift. Only one noticable change has been that the bonnet has been raised a bit, so you can see the bonnet in the facelift. I personally love the design and look of my 4th Gen City. It's kind of a downgrade in terms of design. But its just my opinion.

2. NVH has come down a little bit maybe, but nothing too evident.

This is one aspect where I am a bit doubtful. I am upgrading from 17 4th Gen City and the sheet thickness feels a bit lighter on the facelift. The broucher claims the opposite but I am kind of in a wed lock with 1.5 i-vtec since half a decade. I am happy that they left it untouched. But yes, build quality is more or less the same, while the safety features are miles ahead of the previous generations.

Hello, I own 2018 City VMT (iVtech) and in early 2021 I pushed my colleague to buy 5th generation City VCVT. We both own company cars. Our cars parked side by side everyday in office parking. We mostly leave office together so every day we see each other car. We both agree that exterior of 4th generation city look much sporty and overall better than 5th generation. Occasionally I happen to sit in his City (& drive also) and found nothing great in 5th generation City. My 5 years old car look better than his 2 years old City both inside out.

I was keen on 2023 City, but except engine performance & fuel efficiency new City has nothing much going for it. I was tempted for Hector Petrol MT, but didn't like it after driving (for the price). New Verna look very promising and will check it some day.

Although as of now nothing much is going in favour of 2023 City, specially at the price, but in overall terms both City & Verna are excellent buy upto 15 to 16 lacs onroad.

Completely agree. I personally felt that I was downgrading design wise. I had a white pearl 17 and the front totally outclasses the facelift. Even the rear of the facelift feels a bit overdone while also feeling less sporty. The engine, reliability kept me from buying Virtus or Slavia. The new safety features are worth an upgrade from my 4th gen, but I still feel it is a bit overpriced. Especially with the German twins eating away a good portion of City's target market, I expected a better design and camera.

But I would still recommend the City over Virtus/Slavia, if you want to drive your parents or your wife. A couple years ago, I would have blindly gone for the Virtus.
