February 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

NOTES:

1: Thanks to the team at Auto Punditz for sharing these sales numbers with us!

2: Only cars that sell 500+ units (and thus, the relevant ones) have been included in the gainers & losers chart.

3. These manufacturer-reported sales numbers are factory dispatches to dealerships. They are NOT retail sales figures to end customers.

Quite a return to form for the Tucson. I wonder if significant discounts have been on offer.

The Jeep Compass continues its slide despite noticeable offers.

Re: February 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Citroën becomes the first carmaker in India whose bestselling model of the month is an EV! (ok, I know these are factory shipments not sales...)

And the ë-C3 sales are less than half of the MG ZS EV which costs over twice as much.

The EV numbers could be low because it's a new car, but are their oil-burning C3s also hit by the EV distraction?

Re: February 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

So Jazz and WRV both are discontinued now and honda has just 2 cars in their lineup. They better get the CSUV fast and price it sensibly, else we can see them doing a Ford soon.

Top 6 large selling cars are from Maruti!
Kudos to them for regularly launching new cars & upgrading existing models.

Re: February 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

It's good to see MSIL have 7 in the top ten selling cars. Just amazing to see their consistency. Also, Nexon breaks into the top 10 which is just awesome. Can someone explain why the 3OO sales dropped by close to 30% please? It was doing decent 5K nos. month on month and this is the biggest drop since the release (if I am not wrong). Thank you.

Re: February 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

The market is skewed toward MS. Maruti owns the Crown.

I cannot wait to see the charts after Jimny and Fronx enter this list. Are they going to eat Nexon's or Creta's share? Clearly MS is just splitting other brand's customers with their Service network reach and too many offerings.

On the two wheelers, Bajaj despite having a mere 10% market share makes much higher profits. Clearly, the Bajaj brothers running their respective shows beautifully.

Re: February 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Maruti: Great show. Consistent upward trend. They never take the market for granted. The sheer feature list of Grand Vitara (their first product in this segment) speaks volumes about their sincerity to rule the segment.

Hyundai: Their complacency in bringing the Creta facelift might as well cost them the No.1 spot in midsize SUV. Verna looks promising although in a lower volume segment.

Tata: But for their lathargic engine/auto gearbox combo in the small SUV and hatchback segments coupled with the niggles associated with their cars, they would have beaten Hyundai easily to be No.2. Of course they rule the EV segment.

Mahindra: They concentrate too much on the Big SUVs leaving their offerings in small or mid size SUV segments much wanting in terms of refinement and a proper auto gearbox. They could have been fighting with Hyundai and TATA for the No.2 spot if they have offered better products in the small SUV segment.

Honda: Riding with their luck(diminishing) with their old and legacy offerings of City and Amaze.

Skoda and VW: When the market leader Maruti brings their first product Grand Vitara with so many features, can’t they realise atleast now that unless they offer so much more features in Taigun and Kushaq, they will pale in comparison to Grand Vitara, Creta and Seltos.

Nissan and Renault: Just trying to salvage their investments by offering cheap cars.

Jeep: Wasted opportunity as their offerings such as Compass and Meridian although oozes luxury and performance but no one touches them even with barge pole because of the reliability factor.

Citroen: What do they think about the Indian Car Scene?

Re: February 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Are Innova HyCross numbers basically the numbers mentioned for the Crysta?

And the Fortuner continues to dominate the sales charts and how! A 50 Lakh SUV's 2nd month selling 3000+ units !!

In the D2 segment if we add the sales figures of all cars (including Toyota's own Camry and Hilux) they amount to 1874.

Fortuner alone amounted to 3426 units, almost double of what the others managed together !!
