Re: Are you driving a fuel guzzler? Share your guzzler's FE numbers here

Perfect Timing GTO!

I was discussing same topic few days back with my brother. He was still not convinced why I chose Honda BRV over XUV 5OO for my daily car trips.

I have owned Grandi10 (diesel), Duster (diesel), XUV5OO (diesel) and BRV (petrol). Out of these, only Grandi10 was my new one. Rest all were used cars.

Back to topic, I never liked driving XUV5OO in city. This was such a fuel guzzler that I literally started to feel that I am "wasting money". I never got this odd feeling in any other car. But this was very disturbing to me.

For people who have privileges to own 2 cars, I think the choices are obvious. One powerful engine for highway trips and one small car for city (fuel efficient ones). But many of us have one choice to make, which can work for both city and highways. From the hard lessons I learnt, 1.5 Litre engines (Petrol or Diesel) balances good performance and fuel efficiency.

My latest used car is Honda BRV, 1.5L ivtec and I have to say that it is such a fantastic car for both city and highways. I thoroughly enjoyed the car and I strongly recommend for others to go for 1.5L engines (used or new), irrespective of brand.

Re: Are you driving a fuel guzzler? Share your guzzler's FE numbers here

Hyundai Venue 1.0 Turbo Petrol DCT

Mainly used only for city runs. Even when am overtly cautious with throttle inputs, never have i been able to extract over 9 Kmpl.

City Average : Max 8.0 Kmpl

But this thread has given me relief that there is nothing much that can be done to improve fuel efficiency. One more gripe I have is with the ridiculous DTE figures it shows when you fuel up. Realistically cant even extract 60% of the initial indicated figures.

Serves the purpose of a fun compact car used mainly for city runabouts.

Re: Are you driving a fuel guzzler? Share your guzzler's FE numbers here

Hyundai Elantra Petrol Automatic.

I get between 6.5 (bumper to bumper) to 9 (smooth-flowing traffic) in the city.

On highways, I get between 11.5 (foot-on-pedal, and ghat sections) to 15 (straight roads, passive-style).

Moving from a Vento Diesel Manual that used to give me 16 in the city, and 18 on highways - I cried for a while, but I moved on.

2022 Jeep Compass Sport (Petrol DCT)
City: 8.5-9kmph
Highway: 14-17kmph

On an average I am getting 9.5kmph, with most of the time being city driving only (on an average, each trip being of 10-12km).

Re: Are you driving a fuel guzzler? Share your guzzler's FE numbers here

My daily drives are xuv700 ax7L petrol AT and Nexon XMA.

Mahindra XUV 700 AX7L Petrol AT Use if for my daily commute between Delhi Gurgaon which is heavy on traffic and I see 8.5 on my ODO basis MID. Tankful methods also shows similar efficiency, which I feel is decent for a 2L 2T monster. Would have loved to see 10, but considering the heavy traffic rush, this is decent too. Highways put a smile on your face, both in terms of acceleration and efficiency - have seen efficiency upwards of 15. Overall, a great drive for its size and engine.

Re: Are you driving a fuel guzzler? Share your guzzler's FE numbers here

Boy oh Boy till today I was thinking that only my 2017 Renault Duster RXS CVT Petrol gave a fuel economy between 7 to 8.5 kmpl inside city and on highway between 10 to 12kmpl , that too for a compact SUV.

Previously I owned a Ford Fiesta Classic diesel and it returned a fuel economy of 14kmpl in city and 18 to 19lmpl in highway, so for my 450km hometown trip was super cheap as it required only 1 and 1/2 tank fill of diesel.

Now with duster I need to fill twice that to reach my home town and with rising fuel prices its very hard.

I previously had MRF wanderer tyres which were hard compound and because of which the fuel economy of the car was 7kmpl and then I switched Continental Conti Cross contact lx2 which is medium compound tyres (Michelin has stopped production for my car's tyre size) and now mileage is between 8 to 9 kmpl in city. so yes tyres also makes difference.

But it is interesting to see that even a 3 cylinder turbo petrol engine cars are returning a mileage of less than 8kmpl in city, which is shocking . That should not be the case. believe.

Re: Are you driving a fuel guzzler? Share your guzzler's FE numbers here

Been driving a 2014 FIAT Punto 1.4 petrol manual since last year which I bought used for my farmhouse and this one is a real guzzler. I get 8-9 km/l in city and close to 14-15 km/l on the highway. This being a small hatchback weighing 1100 kgs drinks up like a big SUV.

My 530i M Sport gives 9 Km/L on city driving with XP95 or HP Power fuel, average may be bit less with 87 Octane I think.

Re: Are you driving a fuel guzzler? Share your guzzler's FE numbers here

Reading the above posts, it it surprising to see so many small (and supposedly more fuel efficient) cars giving such low averages. Presumably it is more of a reflection on the traffic conditions than the car itself.

We have 2 vehicles which fall into the subject category :
Hyundai Creta Petrol Automatic : 7-8 City, 12-13 Highway
Toyota Fortuner 4x4AT-D : 8-9 City / 12-13 Highway
(But after seeing the figures for some of the small cars, I am not feeling too bad!)

Re: Are you driving a fuel guzzler? Share your guzzler's FE numbers here

1.0 Taigun AT (2022)
Peak Bengaluru Traffic, 7-8 kmpl
Moderate Bengaluru Traffic, 10-12 kmpl
Nights - 13-14 kmpl
Highway runs/outstation - 13-16 kmpl
With Cruise Control - 15-17 kmpl
Best was 17.5 on an early morning highway run with CC.

1.2 Tiago MT(2019)
City rides 12-14 kmpl
Highway rides 13-18 kmpl
Highway rides w/O ac 16-20 kmpl
Best was 22 on a highway run.

OT :
I've a weird habit that I'm trying to get rid of - I stamp the brake a lot more than needed and I've seen that it affects the FE in Taigun. If I drive it without using the brakes and regulate the speed, it gives me better returns. Mostly known to all experienced drivers

I've been in two accidents (no faults of mine, both) on my bikes that has left a bit of fear and trauma so I'm extremely cautious, I don't trust a lot of drivers on the road.

Re: Are you driving a fuel guzzler? Share your guzzler's FE numbers here

Okay I barely qualify but our Creta 1.5 petrol IVT does about 8 kmpl in the short city runs. Although the highway mileage is pretty good for this car at about 16-18kmpl with a light foot.

Re: Are you driving a fuel guzzler? Share your guzzler's FE numbers here

My now former Ecosport 1.5 AT with the torque converter became a real guzzler when the going got slow. Are you driving a fuel guzzler? Share your guzzler's FE numbers here-img_1889.jpg
This was what it was capable of delivering in the absolute worst of Bangalore traffic. But on a regular basis it delivered anywhere between 8-9kmpl in the city. Highway drives returned about 15-16 while cruising between 80-100 with cruise control on.

Re: Are you driving a fuel guzzler? Share your guzzler's FE numbers here

To be honest never really checked or verified this in any way I'm just going by what i am guessing it is..

2020 Xl6 Alpha Automatic 10 to 11kmpl since this is the partially Hybrid. but on high ways the max it shows me on the screen is 12 KMPL
Thar Crde 2019 MT- Never checked just fill it to auto cut and drive i know its bad because of the 33' on 15' but its not one of vehicle's you worry about that kind of stuff its purely for fun.

Nano Automatic- I'm pretty sure we get over 18 on this as it never seems to end i think we tank it up once a month if that. Besides the rusting issues i really cant complain about this one. Gets the marketing done and then some!

Ford Figo 2011- MT- Honestly call this my Go- Kart in the city even though it has slightly chunky tires than it originally came with i think it gives us a good 12kmpl in the city and may be 16kmpl on highways

All of the above are with the AC on all the time as we never put the windows down if we do its very rare..
