Re: Are you driving a fuel guzzler? Share your guzzler's FE numbers here

For a short period, we were provided with our Director's old 2006 Cadillac DTS as a company car primarily because this was cheaper than leasing one. The fuel efficiency showing in the MID when we got the car was 22.1L/100 km (4.5 km/L) average - image below, though it later improved to 19.8L/100 km (5 km/L). Either way, this was one thirsty car. The Northstar V8 just drinks fuel while sounding heavenly! With it 68 litre tank, we used to get a range of barely 300-350 kms! Good thing petrol is cheap here in Bahrain.

Re: Are you driving a fuel guzzler? Share your guzzler's FE numbers here

My poor Gypsy King mpfi 2014 model has always been unfairly condemned as a guzzler. But it gives 12kmpl.
My Petrol AT HT Thar 2021 is deserving of such an epithet because it gives anywhere from 7 to 11kmpl depending on how and where it is being driven.
My Cooper S 2012 gives me 9 or 10 kmpl when driven fast and hard for long periods but gives 12 or 13 kmpl when it is driven slightly more calmly using ‘anticipatory’ techniques but yet enjoyed for what it offers.
All fuel efficiency figures quoted above are based on real world real usage Tank to Tank method.

Re: Are you driving a fuel guzzler? Share your guzzler's FE numbers here

Used to have two fuel guzzler cars until recently.

One was 2011 Innova D4D, which used to give 9-10 Kmpl if driven sanely and 8 Kmpl when driven insane and on highways, it used to give 12-13 Kmpl on an average. Sold it off almost an year ago after 6 years of usage and ran 196k Kms before selling it off, out of which we did 120k Kms.

Other was 2022 VW Taigun 1L TSI MT, which used to give similar FE as Innova in city traffic and on highways, it used to give 15-18 Kmpl depending on how we drive and 14 Kmpl when driven insanely. Ran 31k Kms before handing over and presently run close to 35k Kms when I saw this week.

Re: Are you driving a fuel guzzler? Share your guzzler's FE numbers here

Seriously , the XUV 700 Petrol Automatic looks like a really economical car now.

City - 8 KMPL
Highway - 10 - 14 KMPL

The fact that the XUV 700 weights 2 tons , has 200 BHP under the hood and mated to a Automatic transmission still gives FE better than small cars is mind boggling. Mahindra has done a phenomenal job with it.

2016 Ford Endeavour 3.2L

Highway = ~10.5 Kpl
City = ~4.5 Kpl (in notorious Namma Bengaluru traffic)

Re: Are you driving a fuel guzzler? Share your guzzler's FE numbers here

After looking at some of the posts here, I think I ought to stop complaining about my Compass S Petrol AT

City (Delhi-Gurgaon commute): 9-11 kmpl
City (nearby shop/grocery run, i.e less than 5 km): 6-7 kmpl
Delhi to Mussoorie return trip: 14.8 kmpl
Delhi to Lansdowne return trip: 15.5 kmpl
Delhi to Bharatpur return trip: 14 kmpl (I couldn't resist gunning it on the Yamuna expressway hehe)

Re: Are you driving a fuel guzzler? Share your guzzler's FE numbers here

This thread changes my perspective quite a bit.

My 2023 Seltos IVT 1.5 Petrol gives me the following mileage -
  • City [Bangalore bumper to bumper traffic] - 8 to 9 km/L
  • City [Bangalore free flowing traffic, ~30 to 45 kmph] - 10 to 11 km/L
  • Highway [Short distance] - 15 to 16 kmpl
  • Highway long distance [ Cruise @ 90kmph, 8th gear] - 20 to 21 kmpl

Till the end of the 20th century (wow, that sounds like it was ages ago! ), <9 kmpl was pretty normal FE. A 1.5L petrol Ambassador would return about 7-8 kmpl in the city, and 10-11 kmpl on the highway. The 1800 cc petrol Ambassador was even worse in the city, with 6-7 kmpl. For a very long time, all of us believed that the larger the displacement, the lower the FE, and one pays at the pumps for the extra cylinders, extra cc and extra performance.

What now comes as an enigma is that puny 1000 cc engines are labelled fuel guzzlers by many here. I am curious to know why that is so. I agree that the heavy Thar with a 2.0L petrol engine (or the Endeavour's 3.2L diesel) can be thirsty, but how can 1.0 or 1.2L engines return 7-8 kmpl?

Other guzzlers I drive sometimes:

GLE250d- 8-10 city, ~13 highway (rarely driven in peak hours)
330Li- 7-9 (not driven in peak hours again)
Meridian- 6-8 in the City, ~11 on the highway (shocking)

In contrast, my City CVT feels like an EV returning >10 KmpL anyway you drive it.

I think many of use are mixing this thread with;
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/india...iency-387.html (What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?)

Would be nice to read the opening post before posting so as to keep the thread exclusive to that.

I would love to spot Fortuner/Innova petrol owners and Accord V6/ Superb V6 owners(if any) on this thread.

My observations:
7-9 kmpl in the city with AC and a light foot
10-11 kmpl in the city without AC and a light foot
12-14 kmpl on highways with AC and a light foot with a cruising speed set between 70-90 kmph

All figures depend on the number of passengers sitting inside.

Well well I guess I have company When I drive our 13 year old petrol Beat it gives 10-11kpl but when my dad drives it numbers go upto 13kpl in the city and 15-17 kpl on the highway. I have even seen the numbers go to 8-9 kpl when I drive the car in the city.

Re: Are you driving a fuel guzzler? Share your guzzler's FE numbers here

I drive a Honda City ZX CVT 2017 and it gives 8-9 kmpl in Mumbai’s bumper to bumper traffic.

Have booked the Kodiaq and needless to say it is going to be worse.
