Yes. Yes. Yes!
Bring this to chennai!
I don't mind paying for using less-congested roads.

a- rumours

b - before one needless celebrates, in any reasonable scenario, congestion charges would be levied where there is a public transport system that can take care of the people who would be expected to get off the roads due said congestion charge.

if you seriously thing the cahre will de-congest your roads by magic you are seriously mistaken. all that will happen is that you will pay the congestion charge and deal with the same or greater amount traffic

in very much the same way you would pay for less congested roads, so would everyone else if they are given no COMFORTABLE efficient alternative

So they want the motorist to pay because the BMC/Govt. doesn't have the guts to clear the streets of hawkers, jaywalkers, slums and illegal shops & temples etc that actually cause the congestion in the first place!

Private car owners are simply easy prey for them.

Well said - yes, that is the only reason - raise more money, no one is bothered about congestion. Anyone who drives around in South Mumbai will know that there is hardly any congestion in this part, except the famous Peddar Road where flyover plans are being systematically stymied by retired singers.

The real problem lies in the suburbs where congestion is terrible, and not in South MUmbai.

Just to give you an example, do you know that to drink in Bombay you need a permit from BMC, the corporation? This fee adds to the corporation's coffers and creates new opportunities for corruption for their officers.
