Well, its only natural! There is absolutely no reason why you should see a Ferrari parked in a Tata showroom...nobody is saying you might. The understanding between Tata and Ferrari cannot be along those lines.

And not every single Tata dealer is obligated to offer a Fiat customer service, only Tata-Fiat dealerships.

I dont think a Ferrari owner would be pleased to get his car serviced at a regular TATA dealership.

Do you know this for a fact, or are you just guessing? While buying my FIAT, i was told that all TATA centers would be able to offer assistance, if not be able to repair on the spot (Things like offer tow service, at least see if anything can be done when the car is in the middle of nowhere at close to midnight) - Now imagine this, a Ferrari hits something on our wonderful roads, and is dead in the middle of the road, and probably the owner will hail a truck, load the ferrari up on it (all that carbon fibre should help here) and drive to the closest metro .. because although there is a partnership between TATA and FIAT and Ferrari, not all TASC's can help ...

A few are being sarcastic & a few serious. Do you guys as serious enthusiasts believe that Ferrari's will be sold in Tata showrooms along with Indica's? Its goes to saying without any doubt that there will be different showrooms, service bays, service & marketing personnel catering to all needs to Ferrari A.S.S. Should this deal COME THROUGH in the first place.
Besides, dont we like have an insider amongst us from the top brass of Ferrari?

I would agree if such claims came from our lack luster journo's not from the whole lot of us here.

And do keep in mind that Ferrari doesn't expect to sell as many cars as Indica, so all they would have is one or two dealerships at most. So all you guys expecting a test drive in F430 when you go to TATA showroom would be disappointed.

Agreed. Its pretty obvious that if and when they launch, it will be through a specialised range of dealers (think elite).

Well this news could also mean, end of life for TATA safari or to be sold in a lower bracket since it plans to buy out Land Rover too.

Land rovers are tried tested and rugged, TATA might start production here for them and launch it, the first Land rovers were built in 1947 and about 70% of them are still on the roads, just like what Indians need.

I read in todays TOI Bangalore edition that Tata is planning to bring all the Fiat group companies to India. Apparently, F430 will be priced something more than 2 crores (if I remember correctly). Alfa 159 will be priced at 50l (why? worldwide, it is cheaper than Bimmer 3 series). Lancia will be priced at 50l (which one TOI? Do you have any idea which Lancia are you talking about?). Maserattis will be up from a crore (again which one? GranTurismo?). Well, after all, it is TOI which is reporting...

Ferrari has only two manufacturing units the world over, i.e. modena & maranello. Its not a brand for the masses and it will never open up more factorys elsewhere besides italy. See what happend to the dc designd Aston Martin...today the company is up for grabs.

TATA may be managing the Sales and After sales of the Ferrari or any other FIAT line-ups, I don't think they would be bringing in Manufacturing as of Yet, IMHO it will be CBU that will come for the next 3-5 years of handling the Brand.

Honda intially partnered SIEL and Toyota with Kirloskar. Did the Indian partners have any experience at all in producing world class cars? My point is, Tata are not going to be dishing out Ferraris from its Pune production line...are they?

As far as Fiat is concerned....they tried going it alone but failed. So we will have to live with Tata service for now....

And yes, BMW is not a VW group company and it is Porsche who own a minority stake in VW. :-)
Tata tried launching the Fiat Palio under their shadow, event hen it failed. Also the brands your are talking of, do not have that huge a cost difference between them and the Indian counterparts top of the line product. Maximum was 700% between a Tata Sumo And the Mercedes E220 in 1995. Not a 1500% diffrence like between the Tata Safari VXI & the Ferrari F430 Coupe Stick Shift. Same Business model was presented for a Tata Rolls Royce alliance, but it dint work out due tot he difference in product ideologies. Tata should aim at Range Rover fist out of its current options, it will realy do well if worked hard upon and distributed through exclusive dealerships.

Nothing can be termed nonsense in todays world, Its a Material world!
Agreed, but I still do own a Tata car myself and i know how things work in there. They are just not cutout of a business of like Ferrari. Talking out of experience and insider knowledge. The only looser out of the whole thing would be Ferrari. Its not going to earn anything in the bargain. All thats going to happen is Tata Motors image will be hoisted higher at the cost of Ferrari. Also Ferrari is a lifestyle and such things simply cannot be understood by the subordinates at Tata Motors. Besides Mr. Tata himself, theres not a single visionary in that company worth to be associated with Ferrari. They simply connot think that big in terms of splurging and luxury. Also its a shareholders company, which will require alot of struggle to change its employers mindset. It will only be possible after Tata begins to deal in the Luxury market with smaller likes of Jaguar and Range Rover, Aston Martin, Lancia etc untill they get the real taste of what Ferrari is all about. Today you talk to any Tata personel all theyt alk is value for money and cost of ownership. They do not even consider performance. Its sad to expericne when you walk into the Tata Fiat dealership today, they sales rep still recomends the 1.1 over the 1.6 Palio. Its like you gift louis vitton bags to a begger what will happen... . He will not apreciate it, infact he will curse you for giving him something so delecate and impractical. Or if he knows its value hel sell it off. But the bottom line is he wont apreciate its true worth.
