MG has discontinued the entry-level 'Super' variant of the Gloster. The 7-seater 'Sharp' trim is now the new base variant.



The MG Gloster is now available in two trims: Sharp & Savvy, spread across five variants. The base Sharp variant is only available in a 7-seater configuration and costs Rs 38.08 lakh (ex-showroom). The Savvy trim is available in both 6-seater and 7-seater configurations with a choice of 2WD or 4WD. It costs Rs 39.60 lakh and Rs 42.38 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively.

The MG Gloster is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine. It comes in two states of tune - a single turbo version with 161 BHP and 375 Nm and a twin-turbo unit that puts out 215 BHP and 480 Nm. The latter comes with a shift-on-fly 4WD system. An 8-speed automatic transmission is offered as standard across both engine tunes.

Whoa! About 1.5 yrs back, when i was looking for a 7 seater, i recall the Gloster base model was selling for INR 29.9 lakh ex-showroom? While sales folks would argue that no one bought the base models, the entry to Gloster club (and the overall value proposition of it being a value buy as compared to the Fortuner) has become tougher

Such is the state of high inflation that everything looks so cheap and affordable when looked back in retro. I don't any relief for consumers at all, high bar has been set already and there is no turning back. Current prices are now new norm and baseline to benchmark against for future launches.

Interesting to note that the Gloster’s top spec Savvy 4WD costs ₹42.38 Lakh, meanwhile the Regular Fortuner’s 4WD AT costs ₹41.22 Lakh.

No point of getting the Legender or GRS Fortuner into picture because they are just cosmetic changes on the regular Fortuner.

Even the Kodiaq’s L&K trim now is more expensive than the Regular Fortuner 4WD AT.

Yet the Fortuner is bashed for being overpriced

PS: There are some discounts as well on the Fortuner now.

No one disapproves Fortuner for it's rock solid mechanicals, but no one wholeheartedly approves it for luxury/premium credentials that it ought to be. Hence, the bashing.

Fortuner is bashed for its desperate lack of features, boat-like handling, and poor ride quality which make it poor value. Competitors are better equipped, more comfortable, and better to drive in most parameters.

Lack of features I agree , boat like handling 😑 well assuming that you don’t own one. It is a decent handler for its size and ride quality is as better or worse than any in its class. We bought Fortuner in late 2019 after 55k kilometres (even though we are family of three and x1 in the garage that has done 66k) we prefer Fortuner for our trips. Can sincerely say it is worth every penny after travelling almost all of south India in it, runs like a clock work touch wood
