April 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

NOTES:

1: Thanks to the team at Auto Punditz for sharing these sales numbers with us!

2: Only cars that sell 500+ units (and thus, the relevant ones) have been included in the gainers & losers chart.

3. These manufacturer-reported sales numbers are factory dispatches to dealerships. They are NOT retail sales figures to end customers.

Re: April 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Few observations

Maruti Suzuki:
Fronx opens in top 15 at ~9k, but Brezza, Grand Vitara and even Ertiga down a few thousand units. Assembly line re-allocation? Meanwhile their age old Ciaz is the top gainer, a product that got them continued success in the C2 segment once. Rest all models are doing strongly as usual

Tata
Harrier + Safari ~ 4.8k. Punch and Nexon continue to be their bread and butter.

Hyundai
Verna touches 4k, its main competition City saw a slight dip in numbers while VAG twins stay strong at close to 1.5k each.

Mahindra
Scorpio keeps getting stronger and stronger owing to its real SUV traits, while others in its portfolio remain solid as ever.

Jeep- Compass' numbers continue the downward trajectory. Same as how Fiat died out.
Toyota Innova and Hyryder's numbers seem to have normalised after a high.

Re: April 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Zero carnival units sold this month. Interesting.

Also starting to get mildly concerned about MG. Nothing is selling except for the Hector, which too has moderate sales at best.

Re: April 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Why is there a sharp drop in sales of EV cars as well as two wheelers across all manufacturers, when compared to the previous month? Any specific reason?

The sharper(than usual) drop in Compass sales could also be attributed to the discontinuation of the Petrol (Jeep Compass : Official Review) Compass.

Re: April 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Big drop in Brezza, Grand Vitara and Hyryder MoM figures, looks like there is a production constrain or production share diverted to newer models like Fronx. I know GV & Hyryder is produced in Toyota plant but may be the part suppliers are same.

Re: April 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

For Toyota, since the figures mention only Innova Crysta and no mention of Hycross, any idea of the breakup between the two ?

Is it a fair assumption that a majority are actually Hycross - since the Crysta was re-introduced and started getting delivered only recently ?

Real winner of April 2023 is Creta. Thundering ahead with 14k+.(This is even after all the Ridicule it faces in SM)

Re: April 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Meridian selling more than Compass, might be due to discounts and petrol Compass being discontinued. Guess the beginning of the end has begun, its a ticking time bomb. Would be sad to see the end of last driver's suv.

Have they not discontinued Carnival? I don't think dealers are taking bookings anymore.
