If I had something to complain about, it was that their learning curve was a bit longer than one would've required, and that their new product development curve is a lot longer than what is sustainable in a competitive environment.
Does anyone remember an incidence where one frustrated sumo owner parked his car near the extrance of some auto show or something like that?
He had painted his sumo with "my fuel avg is 6kmpl", "maintainance cost till now some 70000 Rs" etc etc.
Those tata guys beat him and also vandalised his vehicle.

Do you believe in such jungle law company?
Imagine a [person putting his hard earned 5, 6 lakh Rs in a vehicle.
And that vehicle turns out to be lemon.

These tata's could not help him and when that person takes inovative way to express his concern, this tata guys vandalise his vehile, rough him up...

Good way to listen to your customers, no?!

I hardly think its reasonable that one extreme case can be used to characterise the company. Moreover, IIRC i believe it was the dealer who did the vandalising.

Additionally, if you really want to pull on that thread,
Honda has issues last year at the plan which also was reported on this thread.
There was also an thread here about Hyundai Korean staff treating the Indian employees like cr*p.

All of the above are also ethical issues. So if you really want to go down that road, we'll end up having a problem with every manufacturer.

That incident is discussed in detail in Varun Roy's thread on his Sumo Victa here:

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8043

Team BHP were one of the first online forums to discuss the Roys Sumo and the subsequent events at the Bangalore Vaahan Yatra a couple of years back.

What I have said in the post you quoted stands despite what is written on the Roy's thread. My experiences have only been positive thus far, and if I'm not mistaken I bought my Safari after that incident - despite everything said there. Therefore I believe I can speak about Tata Motors and their dealing with customers with some amount of confidence.

Ok. For my personal experience... The pandit guy (of tata) in pune is a bigtime snob! With a big ZERO knowledge. That was abt 2 yrs ago. Dnt know if things hv changed.
And conversely the jay-vijay (of fiat) was courteous and eager to give TD.

Regards,
CRDI and 2 cylinders was known earlier but 800 CC is news.
Earlier reports indicated 700 CC for the diesel, the same as Ace. They seem to have rebored the Ace engine to crank out more power.

Interestingly, the world's smallest CRDI diesel engine currently available also measures 800 CC but has three cylinders and develops 45 BHP. It's from Mercedes and finds application on the new, revised SMART-FOR-TWO. Check this for a review:
