Yep. It does.

I normally averaged around 11.5 without AC in my Baleno within the city. Highway mileage used to be around 12ish, what with me gunning the engine the high glory.

This winter I drove a lot more sedately. Result was an average of 13kmpl within city going upto a max of 14.1kmpl; and a highway mileage of 15.1kmpl. All figures without a/c, keeping the rpms below 3K and generally driving smoothly.

The highway figure could have been even better, if I did not do around 4k rpm for a good 10-15% of the journey

Maruti Wagon-R Duo

City mileage with AC on all the time
LPG: best - 11, worst - 8.5
petrol: best - 14.4 (mostly get around this figure), worst - 10.5 (immediately after a period where the car had not been used for a few months)

I do not remember the last time I took this car on the highway so no mileage figures for that!

Tata Indigo CS LS TDi

City mileage with AC on all the time: 14-15.

Mileage on a recent highway trip on NH-17 was 17.8. No AC, 5 adults (suitably belted), full boot and driven fast. Due to the curves on this highway, we hardly got to touch 5th gear.

I frequently travel on Pune- Mahad- Ratnagiri etc. I wonder why you say so, there are many patches where you can use 5th.
Eg.
Mangaon- Mahad - 29 km.
Mahad- Poladpur - some 20 km ( after Mahad MIDc)
After Kashedi Ghat to Bharana naka - some 22km.
Samgmeshwar to Hatkhmba. - some 30 odd km

Latest highway mileage check on my six month old Alto LXi with 3200 KM on the odo, second service just completed- 22.35 KMPL,three on board and 50% A/C usage. Steady speed of 70 - 85 KMPH, no breaks. A few KM done at 100 KMPH, just for fun. The trip done was to Pondy via the ECR.

Fuel - Shell Super Unleaded. Method - fill the tank till auto cut-off, then continue to fill manually up to an inch below the fuel lid. Then set the trip meter to zero and drive off. While returning from the trip, go to the same bunk/pump and again fill as mentioned before, then divide distance driven by the latest quantity filled.

PS: During the manual fill, do it slowly and wait after finishing to see if the tank will "burp"! If it does, the level will go down so fill some more. Switch off the mobile or leave it in the car before filling. Wear sun lasses while peeping in to the tank. Never allow your kid(s) to stand near.

Hi Sir,

Seems It is a good FE on the high way. As you know I need the car for maximum usage, I could not afford for the wagon R and went for Ritz Diesel. It is good. I did not get less than 22kms in the highway. My method is filling in the good bulk up to the brim. In Ritz they have given a green mark on the brim. I fill up to that mark and measure. Xtra mile and Speed diesel did not serve the purpose much as they say. My speed on high way is above 90. Let me try the 60-80 and give the FE of RITZ VDI next week on return from Vellore and Sripuram. Probably 100% Ac. The guests are from Himalayas and they can't bear our heat.

correct, I should have written curves (on ghats) and lots of traffic everywhere. Usually when we hit the speed of 80 it was time to slow down again.

New Update. On my Fiat Palio 1.3 Multijet, my first calculated average after the third servicing (where fuel/diesel/oil filters and engine oil are replaced) is just under 23 KMPL for complete city driving without A/C.

23kmpl is too good . Sadly in my case the FE drops on highways, with the relatively heavy footed driving.

Still remember the NHC returning an 11kmpl Delhi-Jaipur while it still returns 13 in the city.
