It did. My FE went up from 17.3 to about 18.3. I attributed it to the cool weather, since it went up similarly last year as well.

Lets see what happens post the price reduction.

I too noticed this.. because initially the fuel efficiency was somewhere around 13kmpl (with 20% time AC) and it increased to 14.28kmpl (with 25% AC). Mileage measured in a tankful to tankful method.
I think this may be due to the fact that we all have become more conscious in our way of driving and go to any extent trying to save even a drop of fuel (petrol).
a)Currently I try to drive slow @ 55kmph to avoid constant acceleration and unnecessary deceleration.
b) try to take alternative routes (less congested roads) even though they are a bit longer than the normal everyday route (more congested ones).

Currently it has dropped to 19.9 for the last 2 days, dont know why .
My dad is using the Honda city 1.5 and the MID used to show 13.5 - 14.5 Kmpl for odo reading of 400 -500 Kms. So if you want to find actual fuel efficiency you should not reset the trip meter, check the fuel efficiency figure after a good 400 - 500 Kms.

My dad's driving consist of 40% town and 60% highway driving.

I also found an error of .5 - 1 Kmpl from the actual fuel efficiency calculated by tankful - tankful method and one found on the MID.

I got 13.6 Kmpl(Actual) when i checked last and MID was showing 14.1 Kmpl.
While coming to cochin airport today morning MID was showing a mileage of 19.2 Kmpl for the last 139 Kms. All the figures are with 100% AC.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

I have a question on Fuel efficiency vs Kms driven from previous service

Suppose I own a vehicle say Polo where service interval is 15000 kms. Should I expect difference in fuel efficiency immediately after service as compared to fuel efficiency at say 14000kms after service? (Considering the rest of the parameters being same)

If yes, How much drop in fuel efficiency can I expect?

Also if say the drop is considerable ( say drop by 2 kmpl) and then the fuel efficiency increases immediately after the service, should I be worried?

Has anyone else got a car this fuel efficient in this day? I dont know, but I drive my car pretty quick, and yes, it has done 104 kmph too on one of these night-time drives.

Hope the information I shared was worthwhile to those reading it.
That is around 11.9kmpl.
I'm assuming this is the fuel efficiency in the city. There are many cars that can manage a lot better.

The last time I checked the Mileage of one of my cars, the Swift Dzire,
City- 9-10kmpl.
Highway- 15-16kmpl. Both with 100%AC.

Tata Manza;
City- 12-13kmpl
Highway- 18-20kmpl Again with 100%AC.

Please lets not jump to conclusions. I believe Taronish didn't phrase his words correctly. What he said was 178kms from a 15 litre tank, this does not mean he consumed 15 litres to cover 178kms (else he would have run the tank dry). He probably might have consumed much lesser.

Taronish please clarify how much fuel did you consume to cover 178kms?

Oh right! Definitely. You're right. he might have consumes 10 liters and that might have given him 17.8 Kmpl.

@Taronigh-I'm really sorry buddy, my bad.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

I own a i20 Magna Petrol (just turned a year old recently with ~4000 kms on the odometer).

Earlier I used to get between 10-11 kmpl (mostly AC on all the times) in the city and 14-15 kmpl (again mostly AC on all the times) on the Highway. Is it fair?

Well now for the problem: I am getting about 8-9 kmpl in the city (mostly AC on all the times and no change in driving style) post my 3rd Free Service (done a month ago).

What could be the reason for this? Any idea? Could it be due to switching of to a different Petrol Pump? Please guide or suggest me to overcome this problem.

P.S: My method to calculate is to fill up the tank at the 1/4th mark.

In all probability you are right. Why don't you switch back to your original pump & check out if this is what really made the difference. I have often observed that switching pumps makes a hell lot of difference on FE.

The car did consume 10 litres of petrol covering 178 kms but that was a night of non-stop heavy running with A/C on. And the petrol tank capacity is 15 litres, if I did run all 15, I'd be stuck without fuel.

Airconditioning does seriously drain the Nano though I've noticed with the car giving as much as 2 kmpl more without aircon on and the performance increases substantially.

Also, The Nano isnt too comfy to cover 150+ kms in.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Had to make a day trip to Pondy yesterday and filled the tank at Shell before start. City mileage from the previous fill to current fill = 14.5 KMPL, with full AC usage.

Filled again after return from Pondy and car took in 13.78 litres for a trip of 297 KM. This was for ~ 85% AC usage, three passengers and no luggage. Highway driving at steady speeds of 75 - 90 KPH, with some in-town running at both ends.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Maruti Ritz Petrol

Odometer Reading - 8076 kms
All calculations tankful to tankful, 30 Psi
City driving - 70 % bumper to bumper traffic
AC Usage - Zero %

Fuel Efficiency during last 3 tankfulls;
a) 18.89 kmpl
b) 19.06 kmpl
c) 20.47 kmpl

I am loving it

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Folks,

So is there an aggreement on what is the most accurate way to measure the FE?

I have searched through this thread, but I don't see a conclusive answer.

So is it:

Full Tank to Full Tank - till the auto stop of nozzle
Full Tank to Full Tank - till the brim

Reserve to Reserve: I have been using this and over the years its been quite consistent.

Ok why this question now: I recently bought scorpio and I think the Reserve indicator/voice-note is not consistent even the electronic guage shows up at the last brick and comes back up one or two bricks!
