Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Anyone onwing i20 CRDI Sportz car here? What is the ACTUAL Fuel Efficienvy ur car is providing?
I am little stunned here with respect to my i20 CRDI

The car's fuel tank capacity mentions 45 ltrs, I came across a surprise, when I fuelled my car FULL TANK to cap's brim levels (TOP UP), and the reading gave out 52 Ltrs.

This was surprising and thought the fuel station might have looted me, but next full tank same upto brim level at another station is Bangalore, again 50+ ltrs....

I was completely pissed and had to travel to Hyd by car....so again when time came, i did full tank in HYD Jubilee Hills station (known for prompt fuel quality) again it filled 50+ ltrs BRIM level

Hence, I am very much confused

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

well i dont own a i20 but they can fill 3 or 4 litres more than the cut off tank limit..., but yours being 5 or 7 litres more than the autocut off, it does feel strange

edit: do see this thread http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/street...r-autocut.html

Thanks a ton Kippu for guiding to the right thread, found useful information in the link provided by you, seems so it does fit in additional 5-6 ltrs of fuel with other fellow i20 owned bhpian's. Appreciate your guidance and response.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

@Chetan_Rao, moving to alloys does reduce the unsprung weight eg. the alloy-tyre set on my car weighs 2kg less than the steelRim-tyre, thus reducing unsprung weight by 2 x 4 = 8kgs. But not sure if that can have such a good effect on FE.

@kicksperliter, nothing unusual about a few litres more being taken in. But manufacturers specifically mention in the manual against filling up to the brim - due to need for leaving space for fuel to expand.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

2006 Swift VXI - 43K km old
I have been using HP regular petrol for years with city mileage of 12.5 to 13.
Recently after looking at an Speed advertisement recommending using Speed for 3 consecutive tank fills, I tried Power (not Speed, since I don't have a convenient BP pump on the way).
Power didn't give any mileage benefit but I started getting better pickup at low RPMs (1000 to 1500) than earlier after the second tankful [does this make sense?]

After three tanks of Power, I am back to regular HP petrol and see considerable benefit:

1st tank : 13.7 kmpl
2nd tank : 13.4 kmpl (increased use of AC)

100% Pune city driving at peak hours.

There has been no change in driving style, commuting route or fuel station !

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

@supremeBaleno: What I'm seeing is definitely not marginal, and I don't think it has got anything to do with alloys either. If alloys could cause such improvements in FE, we wouldn't have any steel wheels in this world.

Boy oh boy, this time my sparky surprised me.

235 Kms (100% City). 100% A/C - 24 liters.

Average - 9.79 Kmpl.

But this time I got held up in a heavy traffic jam, covering just 3Km in 2 hours with 5 people on board and A/C at full blast during those 2 hours. Other wise I will always get around 12-13 Kmpl.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

A recent trip to my home town in Maharashtra on pune - nashik highway
i did 345 kms with 100% ac driving sedately at a speed of 60 -80
With three people on board and lugguage. my 5 year plus old santro gave and FE of 18
58. It consumed exactly 18.56 litres with cutoff at my regular BP Pump.
Happy with a the FE as owe at a lot to team-Bhp with those driving tips to get max FE.

Hi kicksperliter,
I own an asta Crdi. Even I was a little surprised when my car would take in more than 45lts. I tried different bunks and it was the same everywhere. The max my car has taken till now is about 48lts. But then I never wait till the low fuel indicator to come on to fill. Don't worry its normal for the i20 to take in close to 50lts.

The FE I am getting in Bangalore is about 14-14.5Kmpl (AC on 100%). The worst so far has been around 12kmpl or so.

its a 1.3 gls model, well the trick is "less clutch and less brake" and i m still running on stock tires and rims , i hardly cross 2k rpm in the city may be thats an added advantage.

Today, given that the roads were empty, I decided to just play a little mini-game at the wheel after filling the City up with standard petrol. I thought I'd see how much I could extract from a fuel efficiency point of view if I actually drove with a mind to maximize mileage.

Of course,it's just some 5 Km's from the fuel pump to my place, but I thought the results were quite outstanding I maintained an average speed between 40 and 60 while letting it rip ( only a little) to 80 for a bit.
